Initial Expectations: Long ago VCA used to make some nicely done features rather than the generic crap the label normally seems to be associated with today. I'm looking forward to the trip down memory lane.

Initial Reaction: The overall DVD could have used a lot more effort, but the movie itself is nicely done.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio is clear with some background noises that fit into the movie nicely, but there's also some very noticeably dubbed audio. The video is presented in the full frame format. It's nicely lit with a touch of grain, and the camera work is smooth.

Music: The music is nicely done. There's a fair amount that has the feel of the old gumshoe movies for the setup sequences, and then it changes to fairly standard lighter porno music that rests very quietly in the background during the sex scenes.

Menus: The main menu is very generic, and just gives some horrible background animation with a list of the choices and a clip from the movie. The chapter menu shows a bit of care and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the lady in it.

The Feature

Michael J. Cox is a thirties style detective in a nineteen nine style world. When he gets set up in a case he sets out to find what the big picture is and clear his name. He knows he's up against some powerful people, but he might not realize just how much danger he's going to get in sticking his nose where it might not belong.

Scene 1 – Tina Cheri and Chris Cannon

This is a pretty good final scene, but it felt like it had the potential to be much better.

L.A. Unforgiven is a nicely done adult feature. The plot is very nicely done, and has much the same feel as many of the early detective movies. Yes, it isn't a highly developed story, but neither were they and it matches the mood of those early movies very well. The cast does a very nice job with the story, but the sex often doesn't get past the average mark. It's normally nicely captured, but the frequent audio dubbing really holds the sex back and some of the scenes seem a bit quick. Julie Meadows and Ryan Conners do a very nice job through their scenes, but Cheyanne was the one that really stood out to me with Tina Cheri the only girl that really didn't do much for me. L.A. Unforgiven is a nicely done adult feature that would have been really darn impressive if it ran a little longer and had better audio.

Currently, many VCA DVDs can be found online for between about $6 and $25 with many stores offering them for under $15. If you're looking for a couples friendly feature, this one should be well worth the money. The technical aspects are a bit weak at times due to some audio dubbing and there's no real effort put into the extras, but the movie is very well done with a good story, well done acting, and some nicely captured sex. There may not be a lot to the DVD, but the feature is still nicely enjoyable.

Note to VCA: I sure wish you'd put movies like this out again rather than being the “Hustler Off-Brand”.
