The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Koihime 1: The Love was quite enjoyable. I’m looking forward to this part.

Initial Reaction: It’s even better than the first part, but once again NuTech tries sabotaging it by splitting the two parts over two DVDs.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting a little romance and fun in an adult story

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants dark and uncomfortable sex

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. Most of the audio is nicely clear and well balanced, but there’s a few crackles in it that interfered with it for me. The video is much the same way. It has a primitive Pokemon feel, but gets a little shaky at times.

Music: The music is nicely balanced with the rest of the audio and keeps the Japanese style working very well.

Menus: The main menu is animated but goes on way too long before the selections come up. The chapter menu is pretty average and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a title for the scene.

The Feature

Years ago Musashi spent some time growing up around his grandmother in the country and playing with Nami, Anzu, Suzaku, and Mayuki. When he returns on a summer break from college he doesn’t remember the girls, or much else of his time there. The girls, however, remember him and all want to be with him. This time Musashi learns the secret behind the girls, as well as the trouble that they’re all causing.

Musashi starts the sex out this time with Suzaku. After a little oral attention each way Musashi fucks her, which had Suzaku a little scared as she didn’t think she could take his size at first. Finally, they cum together. Later, Musashi gets it on with Mayuki. Once again, they work each other over orally briefly before fucking.

The sex here is very nicely done. At times it gets a little uncomfortable with some of the comments, such as Musashi ripping the girls up, but at the same time has a great tenderness to it. There’s never anything forced, and although the characters are all animated there’s a great feeling of chemistry and emotions in each scene. The sex also fits into the feature very well rather than feeling forced into it. Sexually, Koihime 2 works very well.

Koihime 2 is a very nicely done adult cartoon. Sexually it’s quite comfortable and has more chemistry than some live action movies I’ve watched. The sex isn’t what makes this one work, however. It’s the plot. The plot has every bit as much emotion as the sex and more. This is a great love story, and as with so many other great love stories it’s a tale of love as well as loss. It also brings in plenty of fantasy and even a bit of politics. I originally checked out the Koihime series as a random grab, but this was one of the best anime features I’ve watched so far. The only problem with this release is the lousy job NuTech did on it by releasing the two parts on separate DVDs to buy.

The Extra Stuff

The extras here are pretty much the same as were on Koihime 1: The Love. Three photo galleries are included. The galleries for Houston and Kobe Tai lasts about two minutes with about six seconds per good looking full screen photo while the gallery for the feature only lasts about a minute and a half (which is the biggest difference from the first half, which only had a minute long photo gallery). There’s also a multitude of trailers and internet information.

The Down -n- Dirty Sex Stuff

The Bottom Line:

Currently, most of NuTech’s anime DVDs can be found online for between $11 and $24, with a few stores offering them for under $15. This one is definitely worth checking out despite the lousy job NuTech did on the DVD. The story is very strong, but there isn’t anything worth mentioning for extras and the technical aspects aren’t too far above average.

Note to NuTech Digital: You have a great catalogue of anime titles. It’s really too bad you don’t give them the treatment they deserve.
