As my esteemed colleague Speelie was saying to me, in Porn Valley it's as much about who gets a product out to market first as who shoots the talent first. So the term "New Girls" could be somewhat subjective; indeed such is the industry's insatiable demand for new faces to fill the profusion of new releases, it's not surprising some of the girls in this first installement of Joey Silvera's new series have already popped up elsewhere. I'm not going to quibble about that - instead, let's focus on the fresh talent in spicy sex characterised by Joey's gently eccentric style.

Gen Padova and Winter Devoe
First up is a pair of best pals, according to the box cover, who tag team Mark Ashley. Pleasantly plump Winter is first onscreen, showing off her "baby soft skin" and pretty face, then Mark and Gen, who has a hint of Aurora Snow about face and her slim but still curvy figure, come in. It's funny how things can confound you. I try not to make rules about what I like or don't like, preferring to go with the flow, but sometimes I just can't avoid a certain degree of prejudice. I really didn't expect to like this scene with a girl, whose stereotypical stripper looks, all bleach blonde hair and big fake tits, are as close to an embodiment of any rule I might have made on looks that I find deeply unattractive. But damn it again if this isn't a very sexy, exciting scene in practice, with rough-edged, physical and energetic action and a crackling, electric atmosphere. Monica does have a nice face and more importantly her commitment to the scene is total.

This may be down in no small part to the forceful ways of Nacho Vidal who is entertained by Monica (describe on a caption as a "dirty hore (sic)"…who writes this crap?) as part of the "sales pitch" on a racecar Nacho is interested in buying. Nacho gets to grips with her big boobs, finds her pussy is already wet and starts fucking her immediately, slapping her face and giving her a really hefty shafting. Then extensively, deeply, tests out her oral abilities, her sluttish tough gal aura evaporating as she realises she's maybe bitten off more than she can chew. I like the way the editor freezes the frame when she mentions the word. For some reason, she's agreed to take it in the ass, which I honestly don't think the scene needed. That would be too tacky? Oh, too late. Anyway, yet again I find myself appreciating a scene that features a girl who, if I were to let prejudice have its way, really wouldn't turn my head. But thank God or Joey Silvera, and they may be related, for proving me wrong.

Overall
I haven't watched nearly enough of Joey Silvera's movies to make a general statement of how New Girls fits into his catalogue. What I can say is that I really enjoyed it, the colour, the girls (often against type - I'd still say it's hardly my ideal cast, though Alexis Malone and Taylor Lynn do really appeal), and of course the rather raunchy sex. There's not much anal, but for me that matters little since they keep it moving so well. The editing is perhaps not to all tastes, and I do tend to think using wipes and other transitions to go from position to position is a touch tacky and takes something away from the flow of action. Apart from that, it's well shot, bright and breezy in mood and lots of fun. Interesting to see that, in this new series, Joey Silvera hasn't followed the example of his other big name colleagues at Evil Angel and gone for a feature movie. New Girls is strictly low-budget, up-close and personal all-sex action and rightly proud of it.

DVD Comments
The picture quality is good, though I think the sound could maybe have been louder and clearer at times. One oft-repeated criticism of Joey Silvera's discs is the lack of extra footage, but that's been addressed here with a slightly jumbled selection of clips from all scenes. However, smoking fetishists may well be delighted by a short scene of Joey having Alexis daintily blowing cigarette smoke in his face and then giving him a blowjob. It's not my cup of tea, but more of Alexis is welcome. There's some nice girl-girl stuff too: Winter stuffs Gen with a strap on, damn it if these girls aren't way too advanced at this stuff for such young "ladies"! Other than these extra clips, there's a photo gallery and a cast list, but it's still not quite the comprehensive selection expected from EA. Fetish menu and chapter options complete the package.
