Initial Expectations: Since it was nominated for Best All Sex DVD for the AVN awards, I have some hope for it even though I haven’t been that impressed by what I’ve seen from Video Team so far.

Initial Reaction: It’s okay, but I’ve seen a lot better all sex DVDs come out this year, most of which didn’t have a plot, unlike this one.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very clear and well balanced for most of the movie, but is missing for the final scene. The video is also clear, but does have a little grain in a few places. The colors work very well throughout the feature and are captured very well in a variety of lighting situations.

Music: The music is pretty average and ranges from being nicely balanced to being a little loud.

Menus: The menus are very basic, but does show quite a bit of Silvia Saint, which can’t be considered a bad thing. The chapter menu lists the scenes by number and a small clip of the scene.

The Feature: In the Mind of Madness follows Silvia Saint as her shrink, Anthony Crane, helps her deal with her nightmares. In her nightmares, she’s caught in a hallway she can’t get out of with Bridgette Powers guiding her though the rooms and tormenting her. Personally, I’d call this a plot and not an all sex movie, but apparently AVN fast forwarded through all of those parts.

The first scene has a kind of a Garden of Eden or forest setting, with black devil Tony Eveready (I think) going down on Kitty Monroe, who has real tits and looks quite a bit like Silvia Saint, as she lays back on a bench. He works his tongue deep in her bald pussy as she lays back before making his way forward for her to gently suck his cock as he plays with her tits and pussy. She gradually builds up speed, and there’s a little choking as well before moving back to her pussy. Tony fucks her as she continues to lay on the bench, and then continues with her rolled over into the doggie position as more and more of the red body paint on his body rubs off onto Kitty. She moans excessively throughout the scene, but doesn’t really do anything with her body language. She also keeps her eyes closed throughout the entire scene, or at least open so little that they look closed. The only change is when she scrunches her eyes closed. She goes back and forth between doggie and on her back, but it comes off more as an editing change to make the scene longer than an actual position change. The only thing that makes it seem a little different is Kitty seems to get into things a little more in the second go round in the positions as she’s getting choked or her hair pulled. With these kinds of reactions, it really surprised me when she took the facial to end the scene. It’s an okay scene, but goes on a little long.

Tiffany Fox, another blonde who looks a little like Sylvia Saint, starts out hung up on a wall with Julian St. Jox lightly flogging her. He breaks it off to give Africa a little flogging before coming back to Tiffany with a little hot wax for her tits as well as a spanking. After giving Africa a little more attention, including a bit of shoe worship, the girls join up to suck his rod while Julian lightly spanks them and plays with their pussies. Africa gets down to suck Tiffany’s tits a little, but Tiffany seems really hesitant in returning the favor to Africa, preferring instead to watch Julian and Africa warm each other up. When Tiffany finally does get around to giving Africa a little oral attention, Julian rewards her with a nice tongue job on her pussy and asshole, as well as a few fingers for her pussy. Finally, Julian starts to fuck Tiffany from behind as she plays with Africa’s pussy, and then lets Africa ride his cock as Tiffany watches. Julian tries moving on to fuck Africa’s ass, but after seeing only part of the insertion it cuts to the face shot and then next privates shot shows him in her pussy. Julian makes his way back to Tiffany for another poke before unloading his cum gun on Africa’s face with Tiffany lying in her lap avoiding all of it. Afterwards, Julian chains Africa up against the wall and gives her a spanking while Tiffany watches. There’s a lot better chemistry here than in the first scene, but it drags on much like the first one. Thankfully it doesn’t feel like the positions are being repeated to lengthen out the scene.

Finally, Silvia Saint, the main reason most people will pick up this DVD, gets into the action with Mr. Marcus in a back alley. She starts it off with one of her normal well done blowjobs. Mr. Marcus follows it up with some nice muff munching before fucking her standing up as she balances against a couch in the back alley. They continue to fuck on a curb, with Mr. Marcus finishing it up with a pop on her stomach. It’s an average length scene, but extremely short compared to the others. It has some very nice chemistry, which helps to raise it up quite a bit.

Next, Silvia Saint gets a little girlie loving from nice looking, real breasted, and tattooed Lexi. They start out with some nice rubbing and kissing, and work each other over very evenly, which is sure to please fans of both ladies. Finally Lexi goes face diving into Silvia’s pussy with some nice eye contact between the ladies that really helps things out. After finishing on Silvia, Lexi crawls up to sit on Silvia’s face for a few moments before turning around for some sixty nine time. Silvia gets a little more from Lexi afterwards, and finishes it off fairly abrupt. There’s some good chemistry between the ladies that really helps things out here and makes it a very good scene despite the abrupt ending.

Finally, Silvia Saint masturbates on a table with a large veil around it, using both her fingers and a silver vibe. It comes across as a very erotic and artistic scene from the start, but lacked the heat and drive that I really think a final scene should have. This is the climactic scene in the movie and it should feel like it. If we’re supposed to think this is about Silvia coming into her own sexually, how about ending it with a group scene where she can take on both guys and gals rather than just pleasuring herself? It isn’t helped out any by having the only audio being the music. Silvia’s hair and the veils around the bed blow around quite a bit, so it comes off looking like somebody couldn’t figure out how to edit out the fan noise. It could have been a good scene, but instead ends the movie on a sexual letdown.

Although In the Mind of Madness isn’t that bad, it could have been greatly improved with a little more editing and another scene. A little length could also have been added by showing position changes rather than just cutting from one position to the next. The scenes are pretty average, but are long. I don’t have a problem with long scenes if they’re done right, but these had me looking at the feature time quite a bit in wondering how long they’d gone on. This is what normally differentiates a well done long scene from one that isn’t done as well. If it’s that well done, I’m into the scene enough that I don’t care about the time or don’t look until the movie’s over half done. Here I was checking the time before the first scene was even done, and then it was only halfway through the scene. The editing didn’t really help things here either. The positions seemed a little cut up right from the first scene when it went back and forth between two positions and didn’t seem any better with the anal fiasco in the second scene. The final scene also seemed like a sexual letdown. As much as I enjoy watching beautiful women pleasuring themselves, for the movie as a whole it seemed very anti-climactic. The story goes right along with it. It started off pretty good, but fell apart after the second scene. I’m guessing this is why AVN considered this an all sex movie, but there’s still a bit of a plot. Perhaps that’s the biggest problem with In the Mind of Madness. It has a great cast and some great artistic scenes, but it doesn’t really know where to go. Madness indeed.

Extras: The only extras on the main side of the DVD are phone sex commercials and internet information. The second side contains a very nice selection of extras. Once again, there’s phone sex and internet information, but there’s much more as well. The photo gallery contains about twenty very nice looking snapshots. Trailers are included for several episodes in the United Colors of Ass, No Man’s Land, and My Baby Got Back series. The bio section gives you a nice snapshot and a little information about Africa (the star, not the continent), Kitty Marie, Lexi, Silvia Saint, and Tiffany Fox. The Centerfold Girls selection gives you a little trailer for many of the black Video Team girls, such as Midori, Cinnabunz, Dee, or India.

Finally, there’s a behind the scenes featurette that lasts a little over thirteen minutes. It includes several interviews with many of the cast members as well as some of the crew. There’s also many clips of what went on behind the scenes. It’s a very good behind the scenes, but the cameraman has the habit of moving around a little too fast which blurs the picture and also gets a little annoying by the end. It also ended up giving me a bad impression of Video Team by the end closing on a guy making a remark about it just being a porno so who cares about the dialogue. If that’s the way they feel there, maybe they should make all sex movies or just not make them.

Overall: Currently, In the Mind of Madness can be found online for between $10 and $25 with almost all the stores offering it for under $20. Although the extras and transfer are very good, the movie was a bit of a letdown. There’s some decent sex, but there’s just as much that’s under average and the plot seems to fall apart as the movie goes on.

Note to Video Team: Please include your bio section on the same side as the movie. For those who are curious about a star, it’s much nicer to flip between areas on the same side of the DVD rather than having to keep flipping the disc. Also, please give the guy who did the behind the scenes a good beating or a muzzle if you let him do another one.
