The Movie

Hot Pistols is an early-1970s roughie adult film from an uncredited director. Hot Pistols starts off very promisingly with a very well-done opening that gives high hopes for the film. Unfortunately, after the opening, the film really falls apart fast and never manages to ever recover. The plot is that bank robbers Frank Cavanaugh (Ric Lutze) and Bart Cavanaugh (Keith Erickson) flee after a security guard is killed. They force their way into Marsha's (Rene Bond) house and hold her hostage while they lay low.

The footage of the brothers' escape from the bank is shaky but decent and really sets the film up given the effort put into it. Once they force their way into Marsha's house the plot just disintegrates and the film becomes essentially wall-to-wall sex scenes until the inevitable, and expected, conclusion. The sex scenes aren't anything overly special or overly horrible. They are rather average for the time period and being a quickly churned out adult film.

The cast does a better than average job with their non-sexual portions than one would expect to find in a one day wonder like Hot Pistols. Keith Erickson does a very good job being the menacing and maniacal brother and Rene Bond does a great job as the damsel in distress. However, the two can't save the film from being the easily skipped film that it ends up being. Honestly, Hot Pistols is an easy film to pass on unless you are infatuated with one of the stars.

The Edition

The edition of Hot Pistols screened is the streaming-only edition available on Exploitation.TV. Vinegar Syndrome has done an acceptable job with their streaming-only edition of Hot Pistols. Hot Pistols was shot on film and Vinegar Syndrome has used a beat-up print for this release. Hot Pistols is presented in the Academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The image has artifacts and print damage along with some jumps. The color in the film is very washed out appearing almost black and white at times. As far as Vinegar Syndrome's quality goes, this is bottom of the barrel, however, the film is more watchable than your average Alpha Blue Archives film release.

Hot Pistols is presented with an English monaural audio track. The audio track has a low volume with plenty of pops, crackles, and hiss present throughout the film. The dialog is clear and easy to understand at all times during the presentation.

Vinegar Syndrome hasn't included any extras for their streaming-only edition of Hot Pistols.

Final Thoughts

Hot Pistols starts off strong but then quickly falls apart and loses all the potential that the film had becoming nothing more than your standard, quickly made, quickly forgotten adult film. Come to the end of the film, unfortunately, most viewers will find that Hot Pistols was a waste of their time. Vinegar Syndrome has done an acceptable job with their streaming-only edition on Exploitation.TV with a beat-up almost colorless image and below average audio quality.
