Initial Expectations: Lately, Jerome Tanner has really been impressing me. With Nelson X penning this one for him, I can’t help but look forward to it.

Initial Reaction: It’s okay, and fairly easily skipped.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is clear and well balanced, while the video barely shows any grain and is nicely lit. This one looks and sounds every bit as good as one would expect from Hustler.

Music: The music is nicely done. It doesn’t always go through all of the scenes, but it’s always very nicely balanced. It also varies in style a little, which was a great touch. The music helps out the movie quite nicely.

Menus: The main menu nicely works together a bit of animation with a still for a good first impression. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the girl in the scene. There’s also a “Select a Star” option which lets you choose where to go in the selected star’s scene sexually.

The Feature

After doing a triple anal with four black guys, Brooke loses her memory and heads off to live a life away from porn. Scene 1 - Brooke Haven, Ben English, and Manuel Ferrara

Scene 3 - Flower Tucci and James Deen

This is a pretty good scene except for one little thing. With the exception of the squirting, I felt like I’d already watched this scene twice already. Going from missionary to reverse cowgirl three scenes in a row, even when you do mix in a little oral, made the sex really appear to be caught in a rut, and even with some nice pretty good chemistry between Flower and James I couldn’t get into this scene too much. Yes, it does have some spooning, but by that time I really didn’t care too much. This would have been a hot scene if for seeming like a redundant scene.

Scene 4 - Candy Mason and Evan Stone

Buxom bottle blonde Candy takes on Evan in his workshop for the penultimate scene. They kiss briefly before he attacks her big fat titties orally. They put some nice energy into the scene, as well as some nice vocals, but the scene didn’t really come off as anything special or different. This isn’t a bad scene, but it’s also far from memorable.

Scene 5 - August Night and Scott Nails

This is an okay final scene. August looks nice and slutty while Scott puts out some very nice energy. The two get along nicely, but as soon as it started out in missionary my eyes started to glaze over. This is one of the better scenes in the movie, but it’s so similar to the others that I couldn’t get too excited about it.

A History of Porn is an okay porno. I’ll admit right away that it had a couple things against it for me. First, I was hoping that this was Nelson having fun with history and tracking porn through the ages. With his twisted mind and Jerome Tanner behind the camera, that sounded like one heck of a winner for me. Instead this was a porno take on the mainstream movie (and before that comic) A History of Violence. It’s a good idea and seems to be a good porno take, but since I have a feeling that Viggo has shrines to both Marx (no, not Groucho) and Lenin (no, not John) I refuse to watch anything he’s in that doesn’t involve hobbits. The plot here is light but fun, and put several smiles on my face with the one-liners that Nelson always throws in so well. Unfortunately the sex has trouble getting out of missionary, and has it as one of the three positions in every scene with four of the five scenes having reverse cowgirl as one of the other two. If that isn’t bad enough, those two positions are normally the first two in the scenes, which left me feeling like I was trapped in Groundhog Day again. The scenes on their own aren’t bad, but when they’re given such a redundant feeling they were often shot down as soon as they started for me. A History of Porn is an okay porn spoof, but far from Tanner’s best.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts nearly four minutes with about six seconds per very good looking snapshot or full screen photo. There’s also a behind the scenes featurette, commercials, and weblinks.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about fifteen minutes. After a couple moments of Jerome running around the set, Jake Tanner runs around the set talking briefly with the cast about things like this being Brooke’s first DP. The girls talk about things like their role in the movie, their favorite position, and how they got into porn. They also talk about things like what they do with their free time and sexual fantasies before finishing things up shooting some of the opening scene. It’s an above average behind the scenes featurette, but there isn’t anything really amusing or informative to make it a must-see featurette.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Hustler’s DVDs can be found online for between about $16 and $25 with stores offering it everywhere in between. Rent this one first. The movie’s okay, but the sex doesn’t have much variety and quickly falls into a rut. The technical aspects are nicely done, and there’s some decent effort put into the extras. This is a pretty average movie on a DVD that shows a little care.

Note to Hustler: This was a nice idea, but a little more variety to the sex would have went a very long way.
