PREFACE:
I admit it.  I am turning into a bit of a Joey Silvera freak.  Not that I wasn't one before, mind you, but with the flood of new act driven studios and titles, and the markedly hit or miss product that the industry is trying to pass off as "gonzo" these days, Joey has really been one of the few I can trust to deliver consistent results.  He has great taste in girls, great creativity with his set ups, great affinity for edginess, and great execution that results in scenes that are truly worthy of the gonzo label.  In short, he's one of my favorites, and now that I've said that in various places about three hundred million times, I guess I should clam up before I lose all my credibility.

INTRODUCTION:
Hellcats with Cris Taliana is a brand new series from Joey--which probably differs from his other series in name only, but that's really not what's important.  What is important is the cast.  Joey has assembled a group of ladies that made the acquisition of this title irresistible to me--possibly the most notable of which is the return of Kacey.  Along with Kacey come Cris Taliana, and Kinzie Kenner--two girls who I just think are incredibly sexy.  Avy Scott, Demi Marx and Shyla round out the cast, and they aren't too shabby either.  At this point, I'm expecting the normal Joey fair--and if that's what I get, I don't expect I'll be disappointed.

SCENE 1:
DEMI MARX, AVY SCOTT & SEAN MICHAELS
The Girls
Avy Scott is a big breasted cutey with a sultry voice and a pretty smile.  I first saw her in Service Animals #13, and although she was a good performer, I have to say that she's just not my type.  She's certainly lots of other peoples' type though--not to worry about that.  Demi Marx is a brunette who more fits the MLyons criteria for "hottie".  Although she lacks the super captivating smile that I look for, hers is nice enough, and she does have a mighty fine body.  Avy is wearing jeans and a sleeveless T-shirt, while Demi wears a green skirt and white shirt.

The Action

The Girl
I first saw Cris Taliana in Runaway Butts #7, and Service Animals #14.  Certainly not her first appearance on the scene, but then again, I'm not a super-porn hound either.  From what I saw of those videos, though, Cris is a generally happy, and spunky girl, besides being just fucking cute as a button.  All that adds up to "hottie", and a person that I wouldn't mind getting another gander at.  Cris looks to be of Asian descent, although she is 100% American in attitude.  She wears some red body-hugging lingerie as well as some fishnet stockings that look just peachy keen.

Although Cris isn't the most out and out interesting performer out there, I have to say that I have great big bias in her favor because she's just so darn beautiful.  I also like her light hearted attitude and willingness to laugh and smile.  Those things along with her sexy outfit and Joey's camera work made this scene quite satisfactory for me.  Some people dislike Wesley Pipes' banter, but it tends to make me smile, so you can take that as you may.  Regardless, Cris looks great, and although this scene is fairly average as Joey's work goes, his "average" scenes surpass most directors' "great" ones.

SCENE 3:
KINZIE KENNER & MANUEL FERRARA
The Girl
I first saw this beautiful girl in Platinum X's Intensities in Ten Cities directed by Brandon Iron.  Although a little on the raw side, it was a pretty decent little video, and Kinzie's scene with Manuel Ferrara was one of the best on the disc.  Kinzie is a gorgeous honey blonde with a killer smile and a beautiful body, and I'm looking forward to seeing her in action again.

The Action

The Gist
Kinzie is great--don't get me wrong, but what really makes this scene is her obvious rapport and attraction to Manuel Ferrara.  Manuel is a fantastic performer who's not only very Joey like in his way of adding something different to a scene, but he's attractive, the women like him, and he obviously enjoys sex very very much, which is in sharp contrast to a lot of other male performers out there today.  I can't overstate what a great impact a male performer like this has on a scene.  The chemistry between them was great, and I get the feeling that Manuel helped bring out in Kinzie some things that she otherwise would have kept hidden from the camera.  Kinzie is beautiful, she has an orgasm, and she gets fucked.  The scene seemed to rush by for me, though, and the positions didn't seem as well captured as they could have been, but those are minor complaints about an otherwise very hot scene.

The Action

The Gist
This was an ok scene, with a couple nice moments.  I wasn't a fan of the initial throat fuck segment, as it just seemed a bit too much for Shyla, and was in turn a bit too much for me.  Shyla is a cute girl, and there were some nice things to look at here, but the action wasn't particularly interesting in terms of dynamics and chemistry.  A decent scene, but not a great one.

PRODUCTION QUALITY:
The production quality strikes that normal balance between raw improvisation and excellent presentation that is typical of Joey's efforts.  I love his balance between close-ups and wide shots, and his focus is always on capitalizing on the strengths of each individual girl.  Admittedly, this one seemed a little more raw than usual in places, especially the Kinzie Kenner scene; but that might have had to do with the limitations of the location.  Otherwise, this was typical Silvera.

DVD QUALITY:
Excellent picture quality is generally a characteristic of all Evil Angel discs and this one is no exception.  The DVD is well authored in the typical Evil Angel style..

EXTRAS:
Besides the Evil Angel staples such as a cast list by scene, a fetish menu, cast videographies, and production stills, there is also about 21 minutes of extra footage included on the disc.  Extra footage from all the scenes is included, with some especially weird material from the Shyla scene (a boxing match with Brandon Iron), some especially good material from Kinzie's scene (more tease and interaction with Manuel), and some exceptionally sparse material from Cris' scene (a single butt shot with some Wesley Pipes banter).

OVERALL:
One thing that confused me about this title was the title itself--Hellcats with Cris Taliana. Cris had no more role in this title than anyone else did, and I was confused about her inclusion in the title itself.  Does this mean Cris will be a regular performer in the series, or does this mean the series will "feature" a different girl with every subsequent volume.  Only Evil Angel knows for sure, I suppose, but speaking for myself, I wouldn't have minded seeing Cris as a host or common link between the scenes.  One other aspect of wishful thinking that I was engaged in was the possibility that this series might nurse the idea of a more dominant female role.  Joey has flirted with this concept in past scenes of the Service Animals series, and it's an idea I very much enjoy.  After watching the first scene with Demi and Avy, I thought perhaps that Hellcats might be Joey's pointed exploration of female dominance and role reversal, but it ended up being exactly what I thought it might be--just another Joey disc with a different name.  We'll see how the series plays itself out, but as I've said before even Joey's average efforts are usually far above average in the grand scheme, and I'll try to follow this series just as I do his others.  For me, no single scene stood out as better than the others on this disc.  Cris, Kacey and Kinzie all had nice scenes, as did Avy and Demi.  It's easier to point out my least favorite scene--Shyla's--only because it seemed like following through on a challenge more than it seemed like mutually pleasurable sex.  Because of the cast and the consistent unique touches that Joey brings, this disc nicely hit the spot for me, but it lacked the focus and that intangible magic that seems to be indicative of his best work.
