PREFACE:
This will be my first Red Light District title. I have to admit though, that I come in with a bit of a bias in the situation for the following reason. The owner of Red Light District, Dion Giarrusso, places a great amount of respect in the consumer--the potential customers for his product. He reads the forum on ADT, truly listens to what the fans want, and he and all those at his company try their best to deliver it. Don't believe me? I challenge you to post your constructive comments to him in the ADT forum and see if he doesn't respond. While he certainly caters to a specific audience, he still allows the consumer to be part of the adult video making process. In my book, whether I like the particular video I'm about to review or not will never change the fact that I deeply respect him and his company for being here, and for listening to me and you. I theorize however, given the reviews of Red Light titles that I've read in the past, that I have a good chance of finding something to like here...

INTRODUCTION:
Having said all that, A Group Thing is a hell of a title to test my theory with. I've long been a proponent of one on one sex. My reason for this is that there's a more likely chance to observe the human element. The minute you add one or more participants of any gender to a scene, to me it's akin to taking the lens out of a camera--the scene's focus completely disappears. It usually (but not always) becomes more about the act than about the interaction--more about the mechanics than it is about the people. My primary focus when watching sex on camera is not to see positional problem solving, or sexual traffic control, but rather to see good looking performers who are into the sex. This is not to say the multiple partner scenes can not achieve this. I have seen it happen, but I tend to like one-on-ones because there is a greater chance that I will see people having sex, and less of a chance that I will see directors directing it. Red Light prides itself on casting good performers, and at the helm of this particular title is a proven gonzo director: Vince Vouyer. Let's see if they can rise to the challenge I've just issued.

In fact, it was so hard to see the guys, that I had trouble telling which was which most of the time, so you'll have to forgive me if I incorrectly identified any of the pairings in this scene. DVD QUALITY:
The video quality of the movie was good. The sex was functionally lit from all angles and showed the performers off nicely. The camera work was choppy and improvisational (as gonzo tends to be) but Vince and friend showed the girls off well, with a bare minimum of guy flesh getting in the way. The audio was fine and it was easy to hear the performers' voices, and after all, in this kind of movie that's all you need hope for.

EXTRAS:
Aside from a number of trailers for other Red Light District efforts (which I always find nice), there is about 4 minutes of what they appropriately call, "Boner Footage." I'm not sure what it is normally, but this time it's basically some POV blowjob and anal action between Vince Vouyer and Austin O'Rieley, presumably while Joel is busy in the bathroom during her scene. It's actually pretty hot with some cool interaction between Vince and Austin, and a nice extra. There is also some cut together behind the scenes footage. This is also very interesting stuff, which basically just shows the performers doing their thang between the sex scenes. At one point we get to see Vince measure up against 5'11" Ashley Long, and well, let's just say the Vince looks short. They also do a little impromptu advertising for Gangbang #2. Finally, (and this is very cool), they show us the final popshot sequence of the last scene from the perspective of the second camera. This is not to show us the cumshots and swapping again, but to show us how Vince shoots the sequence, as we see him with the camera in front of the girls. I really liked this a lot, and found it very interesting (Juliana's anti-swallowing campaign not withstanding). Finally, there is a collection of still photos.

OVERALL:
While I still stand by my general dislike for scenes with multiple partners, I do admit that this video made a good case nonetheless. The girls were very attractive, and were shot well. This is clearly not a video geared toward women in any sense of the word as most of the time all you saw of the guys was dick. This of course, is ideal for the raincoater crowd, which is obviously who Red Light markets to. My favorite overall scene was the last one, although I really wish Juliana had just been asked to take a simple facial rather than to do things she clearly didn't want to do. The scene was hot, well managed and had a great amount of energy from all involved. Juliana, especially, was a nice piece of eye candy. The other two scenes don't fall too far behind that one, actually, and I like both of them for different reason. I really had a thing for Rose Petal. Something about her is just really attractive to me. She didn't do any real hard core acts, but she turned in a nice scene and seemed to enjoy herself. The first scene was very good too, and there was some interesting staging of the four performers that really kept the scene from losing focus. Unfortunately though, I can't get too excited over this title because of a couple of instances where I had to watch the guys pushing some of the girls farther than they wanted to go. I'm positive that not everyone will feel this way though, so if you like multiple partner sex, and don't mind the occasional dose of reality with your porn, I would definitely recommend this one as a lease--with the option to buy.
