Running Time: 29 min.
Director: Akebi Haruno
Cast: Anime featuring the voices of Inari Vachs and Tabitha Stevens
Initial Expectations: I haven’t watched many of NuTech’s anime DVDs, but what I’ve seen has been kind of hit or miss.
Initial Reaction: It’s a nice start to the series.
Who Should Watch It : Anybody who likes anime or is curious about it
Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants completely consensual sex or visible pop shots
Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty impressive. The audio is clear and well balanced, as is the video. There aren’t any great feats of animation here, but for Japanese anime, it looks about as good as I’ve seen it.
Music: The music is about the same as what you hear on Japanese cartoons today, or at least it sounded about like what I heard in the thirty seconds of Pokemon I once endured. It’s nicely balanced with the rest of the audio, and fits the cartoon feel very well.
Disc Complaints: The feature doesn’t even run a half hour, and there’s only four episodes in the series. From what I understand, the cost difference between authoring a half hour feature and a two hour feature is almost negligible. NuTech could have put this entire series on one DVD-10 (the same disc their using for each single episode)! I think this would have cut their costs significantly, and they could have passed the savings onto the customer while making just as much money. It also makes you appear very greedy and uncaring to me. All combined, it means that although I really like the DVD, I can’t think too highly about it overall.
Menus: The menus are animated with the same feel as the movie. The main menu has a nice little bit of animation, and the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of the scene and a scene title.
The Feature: Daina Nariyuki is one of the most popular teaches in school. He’s young, charming, handsome, and he knows it. His main goal, however, is to get in the pants of four of his students, a jock, a bookworm, the student council vice president, and a loner, as well as his assistant.
The loner starts out masturbating while drugged. After she brings herself to orgasm, her overweight captor, Onikuma, the dean of the school, shows himself and tries to get her to suck his cock. She refuses, so he fucks her against her will until he pops in her pussy. Thankfully it’s a short scene, but it is fairly well done. The girl fights against her captor, and it’s clear she isn’t pleased and is trying to fight against it. Although not a hot scene, it is pretty well done.
Daina takes Mayu up on her offer for sex after she tells him a story and dares him. Although he wants to get out of it, he can’t resist her. She washes his cock with the showerhead, and plays with his ass as she sucks him. He decides to make her cum without fucking her, but after he finds out that she wanted him to make love to her, he decides to fuck her. They make passionate love through many positions before the typical Japanese pop shot, which isn’t shown. It’s a really great scene that is almost a polar opposite to the other scene. It’s passionate and loving, and even though it’s animated you can feel a lot of heat in the scene. This is one of the best anime scenes I’ve watched.
Five Card 1 is a decent beginning to the series. You’re nicely introduced to the characters and the storyline, but that’s about it. The story does come to an okay close if a person has only picked up this episode, but things are also left hanging enough that I really wanted to see more also. The sex is very well done for a Japanese movie, and mixes loving passionate sex with the non-consensual sex that seems all too common in this type of movie. My biggest complaint is still that this should have been a quarter of a single DVD rather than a quarter of a box set. Five Card 1 is worth checking out if you’re curious about anime, but don’t pay too much for it.
Extras: Three photo galleries are included, one for Tabitha Stevens, one for Inari Vachs, and one for the feature. Each gallery lasts about two minutes with six seconds per very nice looking full screen photo. The B-side of the DVD is also devoted to trailers of other Nu-Tech movies.
Themes: Straight, anime, masturbation, squirting, and rape
Raincoat Factor: Medium high
Condom Usage: None
Overall: Currently, the Five Card series can be found online for between $11 and $22, with several stores offering it near the low end, or you can pick up the entire series as a four DVD box set for between $25 and $77 with many stores offering it for around $40. Although I can justify the $25 for the box set, I have a hard time justifying anything over ten bucks for a half hour DVD even if it is well done like this one. I’d suggest renting this one if you’re interested and then picking up the box set if you like it.
Note to NuTech: I have a feeling these would sell a lot better if you’d make them more attractive. When most stores have to sell your boxed sets at around $40 for what ends up as a two hour movie, something seems wrong. You could easily cut your costs back on this and make it affordable for people. As is, I can’t help but see you as being dang greedy and not caring much for the people who buy your product.
