From the warped mind and pen of director Robert Hunington comes Envy, a rare psychological thriller/drama whose storyline may leave more than a few audience members confused as to what they just saw, ensuring repeat viewing.

Synopsis: Nicole London portrays a mother concerned about her daughter Envy (Lezley Zen). Mom relates to us the story of Envy as she packs her daughter’s belongings into a cardboard box. Envy, it seems, was due to get married but now the wedding is off because Envy drove her man away by spending inordinate amounts of time fantasizing, writing in her journal and generally being tormented by the voices of four other women in her head. These women are played by Temptation, Aria, Kelly Steele and Venus. It sounds easy enough to follow but trust me when I say that the way the narrative is presented, it’s nigh-impossible to glean what is reality, what is in Envy’s head and what is even going on at any given point in time. The opening sequence alone confuses the viewer by having Nicole London talk about her daughter in voice over while showing a montage of clips that include Lezley Zen getting it on with Stone and Temptation masturbating alone on her bed. When London refers to Envy’s journal, we see both Zen and Temptation writing in it, so we are clueless as to who is who and which is the “real” Envy. There are many montages such as this between the sex scenes, most of them requiring some sort of exposition, but leaving it up to the viewer to digest them and figure out their meaning.

The rest of the movie is a journey through Envy’s subconscious and a look at what the voices do and say to her, while her mother back in reality shows us that if Envy is mentally unstable, it must run in the family because she’s not wrapped too tight herself. As Envy’s voices get it on in all manner of ways with all sorts of men and with each other, her mother rambles to herself in the mirror, writing messages on it in lipstick and then rubbing them out. The voices, fortunately for us, love sex and like to screw with Envy by having lots of it while she watches. Envy, portrayed by Zen in her subconscious, never takes part. She sits staring straight ahead, looking comatose.

The Action: Aria decides to tackle Barrette Blade in the first real sex scene of the movie. Envy is in the vicinity, but ignores the action while she sits in a big leather chair looking straight ahead. Aria zealously works Blades thick prick with her shapely mouth and Blade returns the favor with equal fervor, flicking his tongue over Aria’s clit, driving her insane and sending little ripples of pleasure through her entire body. She shudders and squirms each time his tongue makes a pass over her most sensitive area. Aria, evidently aroused, spasms with delight in missionary and reverse cowgirl, her grunts, groans and various expletives coming through clenched teeth. The couple moves closer to Envy and attempt to get her attention doggie style. Aria seductively flicks her tongue at Envy to no avail. In our first clue as to whether Temptation or Lezley Zen is the real Envy, we see Lee Stone and Temptation together in a kitchen, making out and professing their love for one another. They are interrupted, however, when the Steele’s, Hamilton and Kelly, come crashing into the frame, aggressively pawing at each other and clawing at each other’s clothes with considerable reckless abandon. Lee and Temptation disappear as Kelly sits on the counter top to allow Hamilton better access to her pierced pussy. Hamilton runs his mouth over every orifice, making Kelly yelp and purr, her hips bucking uncontrollably while she pinches her nipples. If her noise making is any indication, Hamilton is really making her crazy and eliciting screams loud enough to wake Envy out of her stupor if she were actually standing around this time to watch. They first take turns satisfying each other orally on the large dining room table and then get into some missionary and cowgirl sex. Lee is such a large man compared to the diminutive Temptation, the pairing almost doesn’t seem fair to her. His dick is nearly the size of her entire torso; I half-expected to see it burst through the top of her head as she leapt on top of it. The former Penthouse Pet is always a pleasure to watch; it’s a shame she isn’t working with a guy here. Apparently, there aren’t any sex toys in Envy’s head since the girls all choose to get each other off the old-fashioned way, with their own digits and tongues. As with most all-girl outings, there is a ton of pussy eating, face sitting, kissing, caressing and nipple licking. Envy’s voices have foot fetishes, too, since there is a lot of toe sucking, as well. The action must turn Lezley on because she snaps out of her trance and begins to masturbate next to the three ladies. The women are so into one another that they don’t notice but when they are done, they look for Envy and she is gone. ***

Back in reality (or is it?) Lezley Zen lies on her bed, writing in her journal and is joined by Lee Stone. “I’m the pretty bride, mama. I’m the pretty one,” she says while Lee spreads her legs apart. Zen gives Stone a naughty but heavy handed suck job. It’s more style than substance and more eye contact than actual technique, but damn does it ever look sexy. It gets the job done, which allows Zen to hop on top of Lee. Once mounted, she straddles his cock and lowers herself up and down, controlling the tempo. The sight of this, her snarled Gina Gershon-like upper lip, firm bouncing breasts and generous dirty talk are nearly enough to bring Stone to premature ejaculation. Comments: This is an hour and a half of near madness. While the plot is sure to leave you with some unanswered questions, the sex is very good for a couples friendly feature. Every scene was watchable; there wasn’t a bad one in the bunch. The pairs didn’t visually demonstrate every position in the Kama Sutra nor did I expect them to. Even without extending themselves beyond the most basic lovemaking standards, I was still impressed and I attribute that to the hot cast. All of the players are attractive and energetic, strutting their stuff in a feature environment when the majority of them are used to working in the gonzo arena. They reigned it in, but only a tad. It gave the production an edge and prevented me from seeing run-of-the-mill vanilla performances out of a cast I didn’t know or didn’t like. The direction was capable, knowing where to place the camera to best capture the action, zoom in for close-ups and pan out for wide-angle shots. I even took notice of the erratic movement and slanted camera angles during the Steele’s frenzied fuckfest. The video was a clear as one needs it to be and while the audio was deafening, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment after adjusting my own volume.

After navigating a static menu, you will find that a picture gallery and a fourteen-minute Behind the Scenes featurette are the only extras on this DVD. I’m almost always pleased with a peek behind the scenes and this one was no different. There are short interviews with each of the performers and a brief look at the filming of each individual scene. I was surprised to see both Lezley and Aria sucking Barrette Blade’s cock between takes during the first scene. There are some funny moments here and an unexpected cameo by Harley Davis. There are some audio issues during the Behind the Scenes where it gets extremely loud, doesn’t sync or disappears altogether, but the feature itself is solid. I only see Outback productions improving the small imperfections in the extras that don’t completely ruin this overall great product from a fledgling company. As it is, ENVY stands as perfectly acceptable erotica.
