The Little Details
Running Time: 28 min.
Production Date: 2002
Director: Takeshi Masui
Cast: Animated, but featuring the voices of Kylie Ireland and Misty Rain
The Short Story
Initial Expectations: This one sounds like fun, so although I know it’s going to be a lousy and cheaply done DVD, I’m looking forward to the feature.
Initial Reaction: It’s a very nice start that has me looking forward to more.
Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants a story with a little sex fitting into it
Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants a lot of animated sex or darker sex
The Technical Stuff
Audio /Video Quality: The audio and video both appear very good for what the source is like. The animation isn’t that developed, think Pokemon, but there isn’t any noticeable pixelation or remnants to hold it back further.
Music: None
Menus: The main menu is nicely animated, and gives a very good first impression. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a title for that scene.
The Feature
After Mai (voiced by Kylie Ireland) loses her fiancé Youji in a mountain climbing accident, she decides she still wants to have his baby. Since she’s not into necrophilia, Mai decides she’s going to try the method Youji was working on where babies are created using the DNA found in a hair or the saliva on a smoke. She’s willing to do anything to have the baby, and becomes a DNA hunter who has to collect sperm from specific men in the usual porno way so they can help women clients have their babies.Mai starts thing out flashing back to her last night with her husband Youji. He eats her out before fucking her in a couple positions. Mai comes, but Youji’s orgasm is only implied to be internal and at the same time. It’s a short and sweet opening scene that has a nice and loving feel to it, which is very rare in anime.
Mai and Masumi, one of her co-workers, head out to pick up a couple guys for Mai’s test. She’s supposed to see if she can work the company’s special female condom to gather some ejaculate. They pick them up on the street and take them back to a hotel room. Mai can’t perform yet, to Masumi takes on both guys. Once again, a pop is hinted at with one of the guys, and the other is completely ignored. It’s an okay scene, but once again much shorter than I would have liked.
Finally, Mai takes on her old boss as a final test to become a DNA hunter. He wants to take her home, but she begs him to sleep with her in order to help her forget about her husband. He grants her wish, first playing with her from behind before fucking her face. He grants Mai’s request for him to fuck her, and pops in her pussy as she asks. It’s a nicely done scene that shows emotions pretty well.
DNA Hunter 1 seems like a nice start to the series. It’s a little heavy on the story, but at the same time blends in the sex nicely. In many ways it reminds me of the classic porn style where there are a few more shorter scenes that blend into the story rather than a bunch of large sex scenes that seem forced into the story. The story brings out Mai’s emotions very well, and Kylie Ireland enhances it even more with the great job she does providing the voice. Unlike most anime movies I’ve seen, there’s actually something worth relating to in Mai, which might be why I liked it so much. I’m sure there’s a bigger and darker story that’s going to come up, but at the same time, I see something in Mai that makes me think that she can overcome it. It’s a nice way to start out a series, and DNA Hunter 1 has me looking forward to the rest of the series.
The Extra Stuff
The A-side of the DVD contains a few photo galleries and website information. The feature gallery lasts nearly four minutes with about six seconds per full screen photo. Kylie Ireland and Misty Rain each get their own photo galleries also, with each of them running about two and a quarter minutes with six seconds per nice looking full screen photo. There’s The B-side of the DVD contains trailers for most of NuTech’s animated releases. Sadly, these are the same extras on every DVD in this series. The Down -n- Dirty Sex Stuff
Themes: Anime and group
Raincoat Factor: Low
Condom Usage: None, since social diseases haven’t become a problem among animated characters yet
The Bottom Line:
Currently, the DNA Hunter episodes can be found online for between $11 and $22 with most stores offering them for around $15. Although I liked this movie and it has a nice transfer, I’d strongly suggest renting it rather than buying it. At under a half hour, I just can’t justify the cost for what you get here, especially since there aren’t any extras worth mentioning.Note to NuTech: I really wish you’d pay a little attention to how badly your competition, such as Central Park and Kitty, are making your DVDs look and try to improve them.
