The Short Story

Initial Expectations: I’m a little torn on this one. I’ve heard very good things about this movie, but know that it has some controversial material in it and I’m not sure if it was edited for American viewing. I’ve seen many movies get a lot of praise when they’ve had controversial material just because of the controversial material, and because of that I’m a little scared of it.

Initial Reaction: Wow.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who’s a fan of adult entertainment

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who thinks porn should be incredibly soft or incredibly extreme

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very impressive. The audio is clear and well balanced, without any background noises to interfere. The video is also very nicely done, and presented in a non-anamorphic widescreen format. This is the biggest disappointment with the video, as widescreen should be given the anamorphic transfer it deserves. The movie was shot on film, and looks great. There’s barely any grain and the lighting is adjusted nicely throughout the movie to help with the artistic feel. The only problem with the video is that there’s a green line down the left side of the screen.

Music: The music starts out on a definite high note with a song sung by BellaDonna. It continues with some nice electronic music, and even includes vocals. It’s excellent music, and definitely helps to give the movie a unique feel. My only complaint with it is that it’s often overpowering and doesn’t let you hear the performers.

Menus: The menus are pretty good. The main menu is nicely animated and gives a very good first impression. The chapter menu is pretty typical, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a chapter number.

The Feature

When his partner frames him for a murder in Europe, Kurt Lockwood comes home to the States to hide out a bit. When he shows up at his father Patrick Collin’s house, he finds that his father has married Ashley Long, and isn’t happy about it. While Patrick tries to take care of Kurt’s European problem, Kurt and Ashley get to know each other a little better and end up falling for each other. Kurt might not be on the run from a murder charge back home, but he just might have jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Scene 1 - Ashley Long

Ashley starts things out diddling herself as Patrick Collins watches. She starts rubbing her pussy lightly before turning around and letting him watch her finger ass. She sucks her fingers clean while Patrick talks dirty to her. Things come to a close when the phone rings.

This is a nice opening. It has a slightly artistic style that lets you know that this isn’t going to be your typical porno right away. At the same time, it lets you know that it isn’t going to be a soft and sweet one with the attitude and anal tease. This is a great opening scene.

Scene 2A - Avy Scott, Ava Vincent, and Kurt Lockwood

Ava and Avy start things out giving Kurt a nice warmup. They team up on his cock orally before Avy gives him a bit of titty fucking. Finally, Avy strokes Kurt onto her natural beauties before letting Ava have a taste of it.

Scene 2B - Gia Jordan and Aria

In another part of the club, Gia and Aria get it on. Aria takes control right away, kissing Gia and then sliding down to suck her nipples and eat her pussy. This is a nice set of scenes. They’re short and simple, but give you the feeling that something’s building. Once again the camera work helps things by giving it an artistic feel, and gives a nice variety to the angles as well. The scenes build nicely, starting off slow with Kurt and the girls and picking up significantly with Aria and Gia. There’s nice chemistry and energy in each of the scenes, and they both come out as winners.

Scene 3 - Ava Vincent and Kurt Lockwood

After partying a bit, Avy and Kurt head to the bedroom. They bring a bottle of champagne along to continue their celebrating before Kurt takes control of things. He has Ava lay back before spanking her all over and pulling her panties aside to eat her. Kurt moves on to fuck Ava missionary style before coming up to fuck her face. After a bit more fucking Kurt rolls Ava over to tongue her bung and fuck her from behind. They even get in a bit of pile driver and cowgirl before Ava takes the facial finish after plenty of stroking for Kurt.

This is a very well done scene. I know most people think of Ava as a soft ‘couples movie’ girl, but every now and then her dark sides comes out on camera. This is one of those scenes. It’s pretty rough and I’ll admit that if I wouldn’t have heard Ava talking about how she likes it rough in past interviews I’d be a little uncomfortable with this scene. Kurt gets a bit rough with her here, putting in plenty of spanking, choking, and slapping. Ava takes it all extremely well, and turns in an impressive performance.

Scene 4 - Katrina Kraven and Mr. Bigg

Mr. Bigg gets a bit of his own action in the next scene when he has a meeting with Katrina, who looks plenty rough with her nose ring and excessive tattoos. They kiss passionately before Mr. Bigg moves down to kiss Katrina’s kitty and poke her pucker. Katrina lets Mr. Bigg move directly to spearing her sphincter from behind before rolling over and letting him give it to her a bit more. Finally, Katrina takes a nice facial to finish things up.

This is a great scene. As usual it’s highly artistic, but extremely sexual at the same time. Katrina really gets into the scene, and puts in some nice energy and vocals. The camera work is a bit limited, but it’s edited together in such a way that it works extremely well and left me completely satisfied. This is a very hot and very well done scene.

Scene 5 - Ramona Luv

Ramona Luv puts on a show for Robert April in the fifth scene after he throws a little money at her. She takes it off nice and slow as Robert gives her directions while letting the camera eat up her hot natural body. She plays with herself at his command and finally slides her stockings off nice and slow. She licks and sucks her toes before Robert tries to get it on a bit more with Ramona. Unfortunately, others have different ideas.

This is a hot solo scene. Robert really plays a prick here, and does so very well. Ramona does a fantastic job playing opposite him, and makes things sexy while also making it look like she’s afraid of what Robert might do to her if she doesn’t follow through. This is a very nicely done scene.

Scene 6 - Ashley Long

Ashley tries taking a peaceful bath next. Of course with the pressure she’s been under she feels the need to diddle herself. She softly works herself over with her fingers before the scene fades out.

This is a short and sweet scene. It doesn’t take the time to build up much, and feels like an interlude more than anything. It’s nicely done and does a great job of leading into the next scene.

Scene 7 - Ashley Long and Kurt Lockwood

Kurt and Ashley start things out with a passionate kiss at the edge of the pool after Kurt watches Ashley take a late night naked swim. Kurt gives Ashley’s nipples some brief attention before she greedily mouths his manhood. Ashley climbs up to ride Kurt cowgirl style before turning around so that he can fuck her ass doggie style. She also lets him spoon her ass, makes sure to get a full taste of it, and hopes up for a reverse cowgirl anal ride. They finish things up with a bit of missionary work at the edge of the pool before Kurt decorates Ashley’s stomach. Not to let things end so neatly, Ashley picks some up with her fingers and eats it.

This is an excellent scene. Ashley and Kurt have great chemistry and energy, and leave no doubt as to why this scene has been nominated several times for best couples scene. Everything about this scene seems near perfect, from the lighting to the passion to the camera work, and I was left with my mouth agape by the end of it at the overall beauty of this scene.

Scene 8A - Flick Shagwell, Jay Ashley, and Renee Pornero

After Flick and Renee put on a little show with Rachel Rotten, they break off to take on Jay. They team up to mouth Jay’s meat before Flick moves up to ride his tongue a little. Jay fucks each of the girls in each of their holes, and the girls play nicely between each other while Jay works them over. Finally, Jay delivers a disappointing pop between Flick and Renee’s tongues, with the girls showing some nice enthusiasm even though there was barely enough to save a couple dehydrating crab lice.

Scene 8B - Rachel Rotten and Rob Rotten

Rachel starts things out giving Rob’s knob a gobble before letting him return the oral favors. Rob moves on to stick Rachel missionary style, and they keep things moving through most of the common positions. They mix things up a little, and finally finish things up with Rob giving Rachel an impressive facial.

This is an okay pair of scenes. I really don’t care for two scenes being combined as it seems like whenever one group gets going good, the camera cuts to the other. As usual that happens here, but the bigger problem is the artistic effects. I did get into this scene a bit, but the artistic effects that gave the scene a kind of a drugged out feeling, didn’t quite work for me. The girls all did a great job, and the only person who disappointed here was Jay. I’m not sure he got out five drops with his pop, which definitely ended the scene on a low note.

Scene 9 - Ashley Long, Denis Marti, Jack Spade, and Mickey G.

After she’s caught on film with Kurt, Patrick tries solving things by making Ashley take on Denis, Jack, and Mickey while Kurt is forced to watch with a gun to his head. Ashley starts things out wearing only smeared makeup and locked in a cage. They guys verbally degrade her while making her suck them and eat a little ass, the entire time treating her as if she’s just a dirty whore off the street. They pull her out of the cage so they can fuck her easily. They start out taking turns on her pussy, move on to fuck her ass, and finally double team her. They move back to take turns fucking Ashley’s ass before they all decorate her face while Ashley does her best baby bird impression.

This isn’t always an easy scene to watch, and I can see why people were worried about it. I can also see why people weren’t overly worried because it’s made very clear before the scene that Ashley wants to do this and knows what’s going to happen to her. Ashley puts out one heck of a performance here, looking reluctant while also really getting into it. There’s a lot of energy, plenty of spit, and the chemistry varies a bit through the scene in a way that works. This is a very good scene to finish things up with, and definitely lets Ashley’s dark side out well.

Every once in a while a feature comes along which completely draws you in. Compulsion is one of those features. I was a bit apprehensive going in, but not fifteen minutes into the movie I found myself barely able to look away. No, this isn’t the car crash or Ed Powers can’t look away, this is the way where you don’t want to miss a split second of anything. Axel Braun’s creative eye is that strong here, and its evenly matched with a very skilled cast. This isn’t a nice clean and neat story, and he never treats it like it is. Axel manages to blend the grit and the glamour together at the same time, whether it’s part of the story or whether it’s sexual. Kurt, Patrick, and Ashley do a great job leading the cast, and provide the perfect mix of emotions and personality to make their characters work. Sexually, Axel deserves every bit as much credit as the cast, if not more. To start with, there’s pretty much anything you could want her sexually from solo action all the way up to a mini gangbang. Some of the camera work feels limited if one looks at it very close, but it’s edited together into something beautiful. Just as striking is the length of the sex scenes. Most of the scenes don’t even last ten minutes, yet they feel complete and strong while also fitting the movie like a glove. The only thing that really didn’t work for me was the scene with the Rottens, where the style didn’t quite work for me. Compulsion is a fantastic adult film, and one that should be checked out by anybody who considers themselves a fan of adult entertainment.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts over twenty minutes. There are several interviews with Axel Braun and Patrick Collins about the making of the movie, as well as a fair amount of footage of the scenes being shot. There’s even a bit of time devoted to BellaDonna and the music. It’s a very nicely done behind the scenes, covering both what you’re used to and what you’re not. Bonus Scene

Denis Marti leads what appears to be a porn star roundtable for the bonus scene, which lasts twenty three minutes. He asks them about any special techniques they have for getting their partners off before things cut to a dirty blonde and how she likes it. She starts off sucking her bottle blonde boyfriend’s toes before he returns the favor. After a bit more toe and foot play, the guy helps the girl get to her knees so that she can suck and stroke him. She gives him some nice oral attention before climbing up to ride him reverse cowgirl style. Scenes like this are what made me realize what I foot freak I was. The girl and guy have great chemistry, and do an excellent job of showing how fun and sexy feet can be. They also do a great job of balancing it with the rest of the foreplay and the sex itself. The editing is a little rough, but not too bad. This is a great scene, and my only real complaint with it is not knowing who the guy and girl are or if the scene is a solo bonus scene or if it comes from another movie. If this is a scene from another movie, I sure wish Elegant Angel would have said so because I’d definitely be checking it out!

Currently, Compulsion can be found at most stores for around $20. At this price, don’t think twice about it, just pick it up. The DVD as a whole is excellent, with a fantastic movie, a nicely done transfer, and some good effort put into the extras. If the rest of Elegant Angel’s line were half as good as this DVD, they’d easily be one of the top handful of companies out there.
