Audio /Video Quality: The audio is clear and well balanced for almost the entire movie although there are a few moments when the audio drops quite a bit during a close-up, and then quickly returns. There’s also a few moments where the audio during the sex feels dubbed. The longer the scene goes, the more audio problems there seems to be. At the end there isn’t even any audio during most of the last scene other than the music. The video shows very little grain and has nicely even colors for the most part. There are very few shadows that get in the way of things, but there are several spots where objects are in the way and blur out part of the scene. Near the end of the feature there’s a flickering line across the top of the screen that’s very noticeable.

Music: The music is just a little loud and a kind of typical fun fuck flick dance and disco style. It fits the scenes very well and actually raises them up a little.

Menus: The menus are fairly simple but nicely done. The main menu has a little bit of animation that helps it out and the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a nice sized clip of the scene.

The Feature: While vacationing in Europe over the summer, a millionaire hires Scott Styles and his crew to patrol the beach and make sure nobody has sex on it or sunbathes nude. It’s an easy job except for one little rule. They can’t have sex all summer. It’s now the end of summer, the boss is about to return, and the crew is about to explode.

Joey Ray wins the porno lottery that allows him to start off the movie with dark haired European Nakita Denise and the stunning Kim Chambers, who impressed me long ago in Cumback Pussy Sixxx. They’re all hornier than heck after not being allowed any nookie all summer, and make up for lost time right away. It’s a very odd change, especially since it goes from no audio other than the music to full audio. Scott goes back and forth between fucking Sydnee and Salina as Sydnee straddles Salina. Unfortunately there’s almost no interaction between Sydnee and Salina, which holds the scene back quite a bit for me. It also gets very bogged down in slow motion shots. This scene was a big disappointment and seemed to do as much as possible to bring down or cover up the talent of the stars.

California Sex Patrol is a fun fuck flick, but could have been better. There’s a small string of a plot running through the feature, but nobody talks to each other unless they’re fucking, or about two seconds away from fucking. The rest of the dialogue is done with voice overs which gets annoying. The sex rides the line between good and very good throughout the feature, but sometimes doesn’t feel like it uses the stars to their full potential. In a nice touch, the stars are shown along with a small out take clip with them reading their voice over lines during the end credits. It’s a very good start, but sadly feels like it could use a little more work.

Extras: The photo gallery lasts about three minutes with about five seconds per nice looking snapshot. Unlike most other automated photo galleries, there isn’t any music to go along with it here. Kim Chambers, Scott Styles, and Sydnee Steele all give a very nice interview style biography that also includes a few personal details and a nice photo. It’s a very nice change form the standard bio and something that shows a little care from Team Shag.

The interview with Kim Chambers and Scott Styles lasts almost thirteen minutes. They talk about how they came up with the name for her company, the idea for the movie, and all about the scenes in the movie. It’s almost as good as having a behind the scenes featurette. You can see the love Scott and Kim have for the feature and how much fun they both had with it. It’s a very nice interview and something I hope Kim and Scott include in their future movies.

Finally, there’s about eleven and a half minutes of bloopers and out takes. It’s very nicely organized and goes scene by scene like in the movie. There isn’t a lot of people flubbing their lines or the typical bloopers one has come to expect. Instead there’s a bit of people getting a little uncomfortable during sex and people just having fun with it. There’s also out takes such as the cast getting directions and the cameramen trying to get things right. It’s an okay featurette, but doesn’t add too much to the feature.

Overall: Currently, California Sex Patrol can be found online for between about $16 and $25 with several stores offering it near the bottom price. It’s a pretty fair price for what you get. The sex is normally very good and fun, but the technical aspects are a little weak in places. The extras are nice and give a great taste of Kim Chambers and Scott Styles.

Note to Jill Kelly Productions / Team Shag: Please watch your technical aspects a little better. They deteriorated as the feature went on and hurt the overall feature.
