Initial Expectations: I’ve really enjoyed this series, which stands all by itself. I have no reason to expect anything other than another great DVD here.

Initial Reaction: It’s just as good as all the others I’ve seen in this series.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who loves to admire the female form

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants to see sex

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is excellent. There’s some crowd noise, but that’s to be expected when the feature is shot in a large crowd, and is also to be expected. The crowd noise is nicely kept just above a background level, which lets you clearly hear any conversations with the dancers while not losing any of the group feel. It’s also common to hear some of what’s going on at the main stage. It’s one of the best balanced I’ve heard in an adult feature, and if that isn’t enough, there aren’t any of the typical outdoor wind noises that plague so many outdoor scenes. The video is just as good, keeping the picture normally very clear without suffering from shadows or a lot of shaky camera work. There are a few minor soft focus spots, but they’re very short and barely noticeable.

Music: The music is very well done and has quite a few different styles, most of which are modern songs. During the dance competitions it takes center stage (pun intended) while keeping a bit of crowd noise in there as well. During the posing segments the music goes more to the background so you can here the conversations going on around the performers.

Menus: As usual, Evil Angel has some of the best thought out menus around. The main menu is nicely done with a little bit of animation to give it a nice start. The chapter menu nicely lists the star in each chapter, which is something Evil Angel has done almost from the start. It’s a great touch and shows a lot of care for the viewer. Normally Evil Angel also includes a fetish menu, which allows you to jump to a specific sexual act, but since this is pretty much all the same thing it isn’t included here.

The Feature: Once again, the Evil Angel Trio of John “Buttman” Stagliano, Tricia Devereaux, and Big John head to the Ponderosa Sun Club in Indiana for Nudes A Poppin’, one of the biggest strip competitions in the good ole USA. The feature nicely mixes together clips of the competition, including Miss Nude Galaxy, Miss Nude Entertainer (Feature Dancers), Miss Nude Go-Go, Rising Star, Best Buns, Best Breasts, and Crowd Pleasure, with the Evil Angel Trio making their way through the contest. The stage dances can get quite fancy and creative, including everything from puppets to classy outfits. Since this is part of the competition, there’s no interaction between the Evil trio and the dancers, but they capture it very well.

The competitions are nicely balanced with the Evil Angel Trio as they make their way around the grounds. As they make their way around, the guys get plenty of bendovers, as well as talking to the girls as they pose for the crowd. They’re very gracious when talking to the girls, especially John Stagliano, and they often catch the girl’s name and where they dance.

Buttman at Nudes a Poppin’ 12 shows the female form in all its glory. If you’re a fan of the female form, it’s next to impossible to not find several somebodies who fit just what you’re looking for. The Evil Angel Trio nicely captures almost every type of female form here, small with both natural and implanted to those who are on the fuller side. I have a feeling that this isn’t the easiest type of feature to put together. Although there are several different styles of stripping represented here, as well as focusing a lot on girls posing, it’s kind of a one trick pony. It takes quite a bit of talent to keep that pony interesting, and the thee aspects of the Evil Angel Trio do just that. John “Buttman” Stagliano’s obvious love for the female form, and I’m not saying that Big John and Tricia Devereaux don’t also have that love, but Stagliano’s love permeates so much of the feature that I found it hard not to like it. Tricia Devereaux’s scenes focus very nicely on the search for the perfect shot, and thankfully she takes a few moments in front of the camera herself (including showing off her new piercing which looks great). Finally, Big John has a nice brevity to many of his shots. He seems to want to get in for a certain shot or two, and get on so he can catch as many of the women as he can. It’s a great balance, and ends up making Buttman at Nudes A Poppin’ 12 another great addition to the Buttman series.

Buttman at Nudes A Poppin’ 12 is very hard to rate. Almost every look of woman is represented here, and each one is shown as a beautiful woman, which they are all to many people. Although the variety is a great thing and makes a little something for everybody, it also means that there’s almost sure to be a couple that don’t appeal to what you’re looking for, so for this reason I only gave the women a 4.5. The sex was even more difficult to rate. There’s no actual sex, yet there’s sexuality throughout the entire feature. I’ve given the sex a 5 for due to how well I think the Evil Angel Trio has captured the women and balances everything out. Overall, Buttman at Nudes A Poppin’ 12 is so well done that I can’t help but give it a 5.

Extras: There’s plenty of information in the extras, starting with information about Nudes A Poppin’ itself. A complete cast listing is included, as well as a list of all of the contest winners. Biographies are included for the great John “Buttman” Stagliano as well as the wonderful Tricia Devereaux. There’s even music credits, a list of the AVN awards this series has won, and website information.

The photo gallery is very well done, and includes a multitude of photos. The photo gallery is broken into three different sections, one with posing photos, one with dancing photos, and one from the awards ceremony. There’s so many photos here that I didn’t even go through them all, which I normally do. I made it through the posing photos, all of which looked extremely good, and lost count somewhere around seventy. There’s no doubt in my mind that there’s well over a hundred photos here, and I wouldn’t be surprised with the care that Evil Angel has put into this series if there’s over two hundred.

Finally, there’s the main extra, extra footage, which lasts almost forty minutes. In previous episodes of Buttman at Nudes A Poppin’ this was split out by the cameraperson, but this time it’s run together as one big featurette. It’s a much nicer way to do things and gives it much more of the flow of the feature. It’s a great addition since all the extra footage has almost the same care given to it that the feature had. It’s a little shakier in a few places, but that’s about the only difference in the audio and video quality. There’s more dancing on the stage, more posing, and more of Tricia. Teri Weigel works the crowd a little here, which there wasn’t much of in the feature and is a nice addition for her fans. You also get some alternate angles of scenes from the feature, such as seeing John Stagliano with his camera, as well as including a little bit of extra dialogue in spots. There’s also a few longer interviews with some of the girls, such as Tricia Uptown, who’s now getting into movies a little. Perhaps the best moment is Big John mentioning John recently becoming a Dad. John has a great reaction that mixes a lot of pride with a little bit of fear and uncertainty. It only lasts about a second as they have to go back to shooting, but the there’s such a great element of humanity there that might be my favorite moment in the entire DVD. All told, it’s an excellent extra, and is a great compliment to the overall feature.

Themes: Stripping

Raincoat Factor: Depends. If you enjoy watching the female form and don’t need sex to get off, it’s extremely high. If you need actual sex, it’s extremely low.

Overall: Currently, Buttman at Nudes-a-Poppin’ 12 can be found online for between $20 (on sale) and $32 with most stores offering it for around $25. If you’re a fan of the female form, you need this one on your shelf. There isn’t any actual sex, but you’re going to have to search extremely hard to find a better feature for capturing the female form. The extras help out the feature by adding close to another twenty percent to the feature. The transfer is also excellent, and has almost none of the problems that frequently hold back gonzo porn.

Note to John Stagliano / Evil Angel: Not surprisingly, you did another great job here. It was very nice yo see you listing the names with some of the performers, but in the future it might be nice to include this (perhaps as a subtitle option) for the main dancers that are featured for more than just a few short seconds.
