Bonnie & Clyde: Outlaws of Love Review

It's always fun to compare a Vivid DVD to a VHS tape of the same film. You never know what cuts and changes will have been made to the DVD version. This film was originally shot around 1992-1993. The movie opens with Bonnie and Clyde (Ashlyn Gere and Randy West) robbing a bank. Although the real Bonnie and Clyde operated in East Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, the landscape here looks suspiciously like Southern California.

The first scene is between Randy and Ashlyn, and it has been re-edited and shortened. The music is downright bizzare; the DVD features Strauss waltzes such as the Blue Danube waltz. Now, I'm no big fan of the porn Jazz-o-lite of the tape version, but this waltz music is really inappropriate.
The scene ends in a long and very unerotic shot of Randy masturbating to climax. Was that necessary?

The next scene features Racquel Darrien, solo, masturbating. (There's a masturbation theme here). The video quality sucks -pixelation galore-- and the scene has been shortened by two or three minutes. Shouldn't there be a law against shortening any scene with Racquel Darrien in it? The music is also changed in this scene, but not to as dire ill-effect as in the first scene.

The next scene is a 4-way with Nikki Dial, Francesca le, Mickey Rae and Nick East. The girls begin a lesbian encounter, then the guys join in later. The music is downright ridiculous: some frantic piano music has been substituted for the Jazz-o-lite, which is definitely a change for the worse. Fortunately, the piano music eventually stops and there is no music. The scene has also been shortened. This is actually a very hot scene sex-wise. Nikki Dial has always been one of my favorites, and Francesca le is a great performer as well.

Scene Four is an encounter between Racquel Darrien and boyfriend Derrick Lane, who plays her boyfriend in this film. The scene has been shortened and the music changed, but not in a very bad way. Sex-wise, it is a warm scene. It was after this scene that the VHS version ended, so I couldn't compare the second half of the DVD to the tape. I have to admit that, although I've carped about the shortening of scenes, getting the whole film on one DVD more than makes up for the shortening of the scenes. The classic automobiles are also a very nice touch.

The next scene involves Alex Jordan, a porn star who died about four or five years ago, in a three way with Jonathan Morgan and a guy I don't recognize. The music is just a bit too slow and pastoral for the action that's taking place on screen. It no doubt replaced some jazz-o-lite that was on the VHS version. The scene never builds much heat.

The sixth sense, er, scene starts out with Ashlyn and Racquel playing dress-up, and ends with the two in a lesbian encounter. Who's idea was it to set this scene to "ode to joy" from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony? Ooookay. The final scene is the big wife-swapping scene where Randy West pairs off with Racquel Darrien and Derek Lane takes on Ashlyn Gere. It's a pretty good scene, but shortened quite a bit from the VHS version.

All in all, this is a reasonably good film. Any movie that has Racquel Darrien, Ashlyn Gere, and Nikki Dial has my vote. You can pick this DVD up for around $10.00 from any number of different Online vendors, and that is about what it is worth. The video quality is typical of Vivid and Wave, which is to say, not really that great. It is still just perceptibly better than VHS.
