Initial Expectations: I’ve heard great things about this movie and am going in with extremely high expectations

Initial Reaction: It’s nicely artistic, but not the hottest movie I’ve seen by a long shot.

Who Should Watch It : Fans of slightly artistic porn with a plot and a few jabs at the adult industry

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting straightforward sex, a lot of Jenna Jameson getting busy, or pure stroke material

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very nicely done. It’s clear and well balanced, and I don’t think I heard a single background noise. There’s a couple places which have some dubbing, but they’re quick and easy to miss. As the cover states, Blue Movie was shot on film. This means that there’s a bit of grain, as well as some depth to the video. As usual with Wicked, even back nearly ten years ago when Blue Movie was made, when they shoot on film they give it the treatment it deserves. There’s some noticeable grain, but that’s about it. The grain doesn’t dominate the video, but there are a few shadows that show up now and then.

Music: The music varies in style throughout the movie, but is almost always very nicely balanced with the rest of the audio. Best of all, the music feels unique rather than being something you’ve already heard in at least fifteen other features.

Menus: The menus are as basic as one can get. The main menu has a still photo on it and the chapter menu lets you choose a chapter from a text list of the chapters. The only thing that makes it not horrible is that I think this was one of the first movies Wicked and Digital Playground brought out on DVD.

The Feature

After directing pornos for a while, director Steven St. Croix starts dressing as a woman thinking it would help him understand what women think and feel. The tabloids are hearing rumors about Steven’s eccentricities, and sends reporter Jenna Jameson in to infiltrate his latest porno set and get the scoop. When Jenna’s caught by Steven’s ball breaking dyke bodyguard Jeanna Fine, she manages to stay around by Steven’s graces and ends up in the movie he’s making.

Scene 1 - Rebecca Lord and Steven St. Croix

Therapist Rebecca takes things to the next level to try to help patient Steven. She stands above him and has him finger and kiss her kitty before he lays her back to eat her. That’s as far as the scene goes, and neither of them get closed to undressed.

This is an interesting start to the movie. There’s some interesting chemistry here, and it’s made clear pretty much right away that this isn’t going to be your standard porno. I’ll admit that I would have liked to have seen things go much further than they did here, but it works well as a setup.

Scene 2 - Jenna Jameson

After a blue ball which appears to be able to communicate telepathically rolls into Jenna’s bedroom, she welcomes it warmly and diddles herself in front of it. She moves around so the ball can get the best view possible, and really looks to get into it nicely before the scene fades out.

This is a pretty good opening. It occurs as the opening credits roll, and make them much more bearable than usual. Thankfully the credits don’t interfere with the action much, and feel very secondary to them.

Scene 3 - Tera Heart and Alex Sanders

After diddling herself in the makeup chair, Tera tells the others about her first time working for Steven in Anal Snow Bunnies. When ski dude Alex climbs to the top of the hill where Tera’s laying out in her bikini, he helps her out when she has trouble finding a ‘ski pole’. Alex pulls his pole out of his pants and lets Tera suck it to make sure it’s the right size while he plays with her. Alex gives Tera a little tongue and finger action before sliding himself into her pussy while she sucks her juices off his fingers. Tera takes a bit of a cowgirl ride from Alex before turning around and letting him fuck her ass from behind . Finally, Tera takes a nice facial and plays with Alex’ jizz a little to finish things up with some nice style.

This is a really good scene, and easily one of the best in the movie! I love the humor it starts out with for the setup, and the sex is just as good. Tera and Alex really look to be into each other and doing the dirty deed, and Tera’s enjoyment of the pop finished the scene raising it up a notch further than what it was at before. For the first full scene in the movie, this one is a winner!

Scene 4 - Dallas and Tony Tedeschi

When stud Tony comes into the makeup room looking for some loving, Dallas feels sorry for him and pulls out her gum. She bends over and sucks his cock while Jenna watches from a couple chairs down. She doesn’t get a visible pop out of him, and sends him down the line when she’s done with him.

This is an okay tease. Dallas looks to be into the scene okay, but Jenna’s the real star of the scene. You can see her getting into watching Dallas work on Tony, and without a pop to finish the scene, she ends up as the best part of the scene and what seems to drive it.

Scene 5 - Lana Sands and Tony Tedeschi

Steven’s movie, Legend of the Golden Oyster starts out with explorer Tony getting it on from hooker Lana in a bar. Lana goes down on Tony after telling him that they’re having a half off special for guys with big dicks. He repays her with a little tonguing for each of her holes before fucking her on a barstool. Lana bends over the bar so Tony can have his way with each of her holes before taking a decent facial and sucking out every last drop she can get.

This is a pretty hot scene. It’s formulaic, but Lana and Tony seem to be into each other pretty well. I’ll admit that I might not like this scene as much as some other people as Tony always strikes me as a slimeball, but he does do a decent job here and I’m pretty sure that people who don’t mind him will enjoy this scene.

Scene 6 - Jenna Jameson and T. T. Boy

Jenna gets it on with T. T. in his jungle hideaway in the next scene. She lets him kiss his way across her body before giving him some very nice looking head with great eyes. Jenna climbs up to ride T. T. in both cowgirls before T. T. creams on her bush. Since Jenna brings things out of guys that few other women can, T. T. keeps going, giving it to her from behind before giving her a little more guy goo on her ass. T. T. keeps going missionary style before giving Jenna an impressive facial.

This is a pretty hot scene! The lighting seemed a little off at times, but Jenna does her usual very nice job. Jenna gets into it nicely without going too overboard, and I can’t help but be impressed with T. T.’s volume. It’s a hot scene and I only wish it could have went a little longer.

Scene 7 - Jenna Jameson, Jeanna Fine, and Lana Sands

Jenna is taken care of by Amazons Jeanna and Lana in the next scene. They examine Jenna’s holes with their tongue and fingers, with Jeanna taking the lead in the scene. Jeanna hops on Jenna’s face to get a little tongue action while Lana continues to munch on Jenna until the scene fades out.

This scene is pretty hot, but ends up a little disappointing due to the length of it. There’s some nice chemistry and enjoyment here, but the scene feels like it’s only just begun. It’s sharply cut off and doesn’t feel like anybody’s fulfilled here. I know I wasn’t.

Scene 8 - Dallas and Tony Tedeschi

Dallas, here wearing a large red wig, gives Tony a hummer before letting him return the oral favor. Tony lets Dallas continue to lay back while he fucks her missionary style before she turns around for some doggie action. Tony, unfortunately, can’t pop for the scene, so Steven steps in and challenges him.

This is an okay scene. There’s nothing that really feels special about it other than having a pretty impressive set. The lack of a pop at the end didn’t do much for me, but at least they fit it into the movie to lead into something bigger.

Scene 9 - Jeanna Fine and Steven St. Croix

Steven takes on Jeanna, who’s now in the outfit Dallas had on in the previous scene, as part of his challenge with Tony Tedeschi. He lays Jeanna back to eat her before fucking her missionary style. After a minute or two of fucking, Steven lets go of a load which Jeanna rubs all over herself.

This is an okay scene. There’s some nice chemistry and good energy here, but once again the scene feels incredibly short. This is the climactic scene of the movie, but it’s also probably the shortest full sex scene in the movie. To have a scene that’s this pivotal in the movie be this short ended up disappointing me.

Blue Movie hit me and missed me at the same time. On one hand, it’s very nicely done. The plot flows nicely and is a lot of fun. It doesn’t take itself overly seriously, yet at the same time takes some nice jabs at the adult industry. On the other side, the sex often left much to be desired. Many of the scenes were partial scenes which felt chopped off in the middle, and it seemed like about the time I got into each scene they were done. I didn’t time anything here, but I’m guessing that the average sex scene here is about five minutes long, which is barely enough to get anything started. Even more noticeable is that out of nine scenes in the movie, only four of them are what I’d consider full sex scenes. Blue Movie won quite a few awards in its day, and even with the problems it has I can see why. The editing and direction is quite well done, and the movie does try something different and succeed pretty well. In the end though, the levels Blue Movie worked on for me didn’t make up for the levels it failed on.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Wicked’s DVDs can be found online for between $15 and $30 with many stores offering them for around $21. Rent this one before you buy it. Although some people will probably really like it, I think quite a few people will be a little disappointed and that it won’t have much replay value for most people. For being shot on film the technical aspects are nicely handled but there isn’t anything worth mentioning for extras.
