Bliss (VCA) Review

Watching this was pure bliss (sorry for the pun)

The Movie: This has to be one of the best adult movies I've seen in a while. This is not just a porno. You cannot watch this and fast forward through the dialogue. You would miss SO much! The characters and the plot are extremely well written, and very involving.

You have three couples: Carla and Justin, Gwen and Eddie, and Max and Nikita. Carla can't stop cheating on Justin, and Justin can sense that something is wrong. Gwen can't stand Eddie because he lies to her, but he won't agree to a divorce. Max is an asshole, plain and simple, and Nikita wants to find a way to get back at him. Okay, this sounds like a basic porno... it's not. This movie is very dark, and very depressing. No one gets a real happy ending, and the sex, in most cases, is not meant to be romantic. Actually, with the exception of the third scene, all the scenes are rooted more in pain (not physical, but emotional) than in romance. These characters are having sex to cover something up, not to enjoy themselves.

The first scene is between Carla (Juli Asthon) and Eddie (Tony Tedeschi). They are upstairs in the bathroom fucking while Gwen (Tina Tyler) and Justin (Joel Lawrence) are downstairs talking. The scene is pretty good, but is cut up by dialogue. The dialogue, though, enhances the mood of the scene. Still, it's decent stuff, and Juli Ashton is a great performer.

Scene two is with my least favorite character, Max (Steve Hatcher). This guys is just an asshole! He is really bad to his girlfriend Nikita (herself). The scene is hot, and all, but I had a hard time finding anything sexy since the character of Max is so unlikable. Still pretty decent.

Next we have Gwen and Carla together. Carla is the sub in this scene, and Gwen takes over. It seems that Carla can't get hot unless someone is treating her like shit. So, Gwen treats her like shit. The scene is good enough.

The next two scenes happen back to back. First we have Nikita seducing Justin. The scene is okay. It's softer than the other scenes, and Justin aims to pleasure Nikita. It has the softer edge mainly because by this point everyone is in character completely, and Justin is the nice guy. He isn't trying to get anything out of this. Nikita on the other hand... decent scene.

The scene right after is the darkest scene in the movie. This scene was my favorite. Max goes to a bar, and picks up Chloe. They go back to her motel room, and she wants him to dominate her. Well... he does. He has no problem. Although this is an entirley anal scene, Chloe has at least six orgasms through the entire scene. These aren't just moaning, and all that. The girl goes cross eyed. Plus, the dark nature of the scene (choking, nipple clamps, a ball gag, and some sub/dom stuff) fit the movie very well.

After that there is more plot, and then we get to Eddie, who has called a prostitute (Gina Ryder). This scene is the weakest intentionally. Gina is not supposed to be in to having sex with Tony. He actually has to pay her to act like she likes him. This scene is slightly comically, but also pretty damn sad as well.

There is more plot, and then the final scene. I won't go in to detail about this one, because it would ruin the ending. Still... it's a good scene.

There is no real weak sex scene in this movie. The characters, and the strength of the plot add a lot to the sex scenes as well, and the actors never break character during a sex scene.

The acting is top notch here. There was no weak performance, or real off moments. I was very impressed, and everyone involved should be very proud. Even Nikita, who doesn't really speak english all that well in this one, does a great job.

The direction is very good, and works very well during the sex scenes. The dialogue scenes are handled very well.

Tech Stuff: The picture is crisp and clear. The sound is perfect as well.

Extras: You get bios, a gallery, trailers, and a great behind the scenes video. They interview Tina Tyler and Joel Lawrence the most, and both performers treat this film as more of a mainstream project than a normal porno. They were right to do so.

OverAll: This is a great movie. The plot is tight. The sex is hot, and fits in with the story. The acting is very good. The direction is great. You can't go wrong with this movie... unless you hate plot, or want a happy movie. There is no happy ending with this one, but the movie is the better for it. Highly recommended.
