Initial Expectations: Fred Lincoln has been kind of hit or miss for me, but the ladies in this one really makes me hope it’s one of the good ones.

Audio /Video Quality: As usual, VCA has paid some nice attention to the technical aspects. The audio is a bit on the shy side, but normally well balanced. There’s a little bit of dubbing that’s pretty noticeable, but not much. The video is very clear, but suffers from a few noticeable shadows, that although they don’t completely obstruct things, are dark enough to be highly noticeable.

Music: The music is pretty standard, but does vary a bit from scene to scene at least in balance. It’s all stuff you’ve probably heard before, so it’s nice when it’s low in the background, but there’s also some louder stuff that also fits well.

Disc Problems / Complaints: VCA has the same horrible menus as usual.

Menus: The main menu is VCA’s standard menu that’s so annoying and overused that it makes me want to smother myself with the rag Ron Jeremy uses to wipe up his ball sweat rather than see it again. The chapter menu actually shows a little care, which is surprising with the inbred creativity of the main menu, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip and the female lead in the scene.

The Feature: Julie Meadows plays a girl who just can’t seem to find the right man. Her main problem is she’s a stripper on one of the most noticeable billboards in town, and every guy she meets can’t seem to get past her as a stripper. That all starts to change when she hits a blind man, Chris Cannon, with her car and they notice a spark of chemistry.

Blind Date is a pretty decent porno. As usual with Fred Lincoln, it’s not something that’s going to knock your socks off, but it is pretty reliable. The story has its problems, which is normally expected in porn, but it also has a softness to it that’s very likeable. Julie does a good job as the lead, and really works well in her scenes with Chris. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many where they get to work together. The biggest problem with the feature is the camera angles. The sex is fairly cookie cutter, normally one position, two position, three position, pop, but this isn’t high school cheerleading. It gets boring since the camera angles often seem a little off and the editing leaves things go a little long. I’m sure this is because somebody out there thinks “couples” porn has to be slow and demure, but most women I talk to complain just as much about it being boring. Editing like this doesn’t help anything! It’s obvious that Blind Date is supposed to be a loving porno, where it appears somebody tried to sneak in the message about love being blind. Well, it may be blind, but we also learn that blind doesn’t always let you fuck the girl in the ass.

Overall: Currently, Blind Date can be found online for between $19 and $25 with several stores offering it near the low end. If you’re a fan of Julie Meadows, you’re probably going to want to pick this one up, but others might want to rent it first. The movie isn’t far off from average both sexually and in the non-sex areas. As usual, VCA is lacking in extras, but appears to have put some decent effort into the transfer.

Note to VCA: Please change your opening menus. Having the same menu each time makes it look like you don’t really care that much about giving your customers the best show for their buck.

Extra Note: I recently received an e-mail from VCA regarding their menus. They decided to use the standardized main menu format after some market research made them think consumers wanted simpler, easy to follow menus, which I can understand. They realize now that although it’s a good idea, the execution wasn’t the best here and say they are now working to make them much better in their more recent releases. I have to give VCA a lot of credit here. I’ve been very critical of their menus recently, and rather than acting like they can’t make a mistake, ignoring it, and going on with business as usual, they tried to clear things up. I think somebody once said that you can tell the character of a person by how they handle their mistakes, not how they handle success, which has always made a lot of sense to me. It also speaks very well for VCA and shows that they’ve still got a lot of the class they were showing a couple years ago.
