The Review |
Synopsis:
An adult spoof of the often forgotten mainstream film Blame it on Rio. Ginger Lynn and Barbara Dare are best friends. Ginger Lynn is seeing Tom Byron and Barbara Dare is seeing Peter North. Joey Silvera is Ginger Lynn's father and married to Krista Lane, Jamie Gillis is Barbara Dare's father and is married to Lois Ayres. No one is happy with their sex life. Ginger Lynn, Barbara Dare and their fathers go on vacation leaving the wives behind. Barbara Dare starts sleeping with Joey Silvera, Ginger Lynn starts sleeping with Jamie Gillis, the wives get upset about being left behind and sleep with Tom Byron. Sound confusing? Don't worry, basically everyone spends the film fucking.
Video/Audio:
Blame it on Ginger is presented in the full screen aspect ratio, 1.33:1, which appears to be the original aspect ratio for the film. The picture in this print is rather soft and there are video glitches that are present in places of the film. Given the age of the film, the picture should have been better. The color levels seem slightly washed out as well.
The available audio track is a 2.0 English Mono track which leaves a lot to be desired. The sound is low and slightly muffled with much background hiss. Given the age of the film, the sound should be much better. There are no other language tracks available and there are no subtitle options.
Chapters/Time Code:
There are six chapters available from the main menu for Blame it on Ginger, which makes simple navigation through the film possible. There is a time code for the film, so time searching is also available.
Special Features:
As per the norm with Vivid releases, this disc is chock full of extras that have nothing to do with the feature film. On the “A” side of the disc, the first feature is The Girls, which has info with pictures on the Vivid Contract girls Celeste, Jenna, Heather, Melissa, Asia, Dyanna, Jenteal and Nikki. Note absolutely none of these women are in the film on the disc. The Web is nothing more than an advert for the Vivid Internet presence. Int. Tel. Sex. consists of three scenes from various unlabeled Vivid films. Previews from the “A” side are: Bad Company, In Defense of Savannah, Endlessly, Masseuse 2, and Nymph.
On the “B” side of the disc, the first feature is three additional scenes for the following categories from unlabeled Vivid movies, Threesome, Great Outdoors and Anal. Also, included are two scenes for each of the following stars from unlabeled Vivid movies, Lene, Dyanna Lauren and Gina Fine. Previews from the “B” side are: Plaything, Plaything 2, American Pie, Photoplay, Supermodel, Night Nurses, The Heist, Generation X, Cathouse, and Julia Ann Superstar.
As to why Vivid feels the need to fill their discs with extras that have nothing to do with the feature film and usually don't even bother labeling the films their extra scenes are from. Don't be fooled by their "4 hours of interactive fun" labels stuck on the front of their discs.
Review:
Blame it on Ginger was one of the late 80s Vivid vehicles for mega star Ginger Lynn. The plot, loosely based on the mainstream film Blame it on Rio and filmed in the same style as that film, exists to hook the sex scenes together. The connection of the characters in the film can get confusing at times and might require more thought process than some people might want to put into watching an adult film.
The cast is a virtual who's who of the big 80s stars including the always beautiful Ginger Lynn. The males are average to poor looking and the females don't have the obvious physical enhancements of the stars of today. The 80s big hair is fun to see on the women too.
The sex, although tame, is hot. Henri Pachard shows in this film why he was such a good porn director, instead of extreme close ups on the genitalia during sex, most of the camera angles are pulled back to give a framed shot of the participants. This causes far more heat to come from the scene and gives a far more preferable scene for couples.
The Money Shot:
Blame it on Ginger is a rather standard film from Vivid in the late 80s, due to the less than perfect audio and video, I suggest only picking this one up if you are a big fan of one or more of the stars. The film will be liked by fans of a plot based adult films and couples. Those who don't like a plot or like nastier sex will want to steer clear of this film.
