The Short Story

Initial Expectations: I've heard great things about this movie, and after seeing some of the clips of it showing at Erotica LA I can't help but have high expectations for this one.

Initial Reaction: Even with a minor fault or two Black Worm is easily the most impressive feature I've seen so far this year.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants to be reminded how sex and plot really can work together

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting extreme sex or who doesn't think that drugs or violence should have any place in adult films

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are extremely well done. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I didn't hear a single fault with it. The video is also very well done, starting with an anamorphic widescreen presentation. The camera work is very smooth and clear with plenty of care going into all of the little details including the lighting. The lighting did get a little dark for me for the final sex scene, but that's the only thing that holds the technical aspects back from a perfect score from me.

Music: The music is very well balanced with the rest of the audio, and even varies its balance a bit throughout the movie. It has a slight dance feel as well as a bit of hard rock and definitely helps out the overall movie.

Menus: The main menu mostly features a still, but is different looking enough to give a good first impression. The chapter menu keeps more of a mainstream feel and lets you choose a scene based on a text title over a dark and artistic still.

The Feature

Jean Paul has a plan. He's sick of being a small time hood making chump change. He knows Tony DeSergio's coming through town with a briefcase holding a hundred grand handcuffed to his wrist, and that Tony's only weakness may be beautiful things. Luckily his girlfriend Lorena Sanchez is more than just beautiful, she's also the key to making Tony's briefcase his. He thinks the plan is almost foolproof, but like so many other plans, there's always something that can go wrong that you didn't plan for.

Scene 1 – Lorena Sanchez and Van Damage

Jean Paul gives smoking hot Lorena to Van for a night as a gift while telling her to treat him well so they can make their dreams come true. Lorena isn't as excited with the thought and takes a good snort to powder her nose before heading out to see Van. She puts on a little music before kissing him passionately and then gets up on stage to give him a little private show stripping down as she works the pole. The scene cuts to him fucking her missionary style while kissing her passionately before he moves down to worship her pussy with his tongue. Van gets back up to fuck Lorena missionary style a bit more and even worships her feet before letting her get up to ride him cowgirl style. He also takes her doggie style and pops on her back as the scene merges back with the plot and Justice Young taking Mikayla from behind.

This is a nicely done opening scene. There's plenty of passion between Van and Lorena, and although the scene is a little dark it really works well by kicking up the artistic style and fitting the feel of the movie. The camera work mixes up the shots nicely, and although the action might be a touch choppy, that also didn't hold the scene back at all due to the style of the overall movie. This is a nicely impressive scene that fits very well into the overall movie.

Scene 2 – Mikayla and Justice Young

The movie steps back a moment with Justice and Mikayla. Justice decides to get a bit of brunette Mikayla when he learns that she's a cockaholic, and she eagerly takes a little powder off his cock as she starts working it over. Justice repays her by tonguing her twat before moving up to fuck her missionary style. They also get in some doggie fucking before joining up with the end of the last scene.

This is a pretty good scene. There's a good drive to it that's helped out by the music. The chemistry is a bit weak, but with the setup for the scene that isn't exactly a surprise. Although the scene is short, that isn't necessarily a bad thing here as it works more as background than anything. This is a nice little scene that plays well with the style of the movie.

Scene 3 – Lorena Sanchez

After a call to a lover, Lorena strips out of her robe and sits on the edge of a bubble bath filled tub surrounded by candles. She rubs her bald pussy before the scene takes a slightly psychedelic turn with her in a different tub, now empty of water but with plenty of flowers. Finally the scene just comes to an end, almost as if Lorena went to sleep in the tub.

This scene didn't work as well for me. It has a definite artistic style, but that style didn't fit the movie quite as well as with the other scenes. I could maybe understand it with a little more powder for Lorena, as it is very trippy, but there was nothing like that here. This is another artistic scene, but this time it didn't work well for me.

Scene 4 – Lorena Sanchez and Tony DeSergio

Lorena gets it on with Tony in a hallway after a drink in the bar. They kiss passionately and she lets him grope her tit before her hand starts exploring him through his pants. They continue to kiss passionately on the bed with Lorena straddling him before heading off for a moment to powder her nose in the bathroom. She returns completely naked and starts sucking Tony's cock before getting up to ride it reverse cowgirl style. They move on with a little spooning and some doggie fucking before Tony pound her in missionary and pops on her stomach.

This is a hot scene. There's great chemistry between Tony and Lorena, along with plenty of energy. As good as the sex is, the lighting is the key to the scene. It's on the dark side just as one would expect from a get together at a hotel, but just light enough to let you see everything. This is a skillfully done scene with plenty of heat.

Scene 5 – Sabine and Christian

Things cut to what looks to be a bit of a sexual party next. Christian, wearing only black bikini underwear, pulls over dirty blonde Sabine by her leash and has her start sucking his cock as Lorena and others watch. He fucks her missionary style before she sucks his cock again. Finally the scene ends with Lorena tossing and turning in her sleep and waking up rather than a pop shot.

This is another okay scene. The artistic style was okay, but the scene felt like it should have been something much bigger than it ended up being. The music also killed a little of the chemistry by being too loud and the sex seemed to be in the background more than anything. This was an okay scene that seemed like it didn't get to where it should have been.

Scene 6 – Alektra Blue and Lorena Sanchez

After waking her from her bad dream, reassuring her about her situation, and giving her a dress, Alektra helps Lorena right back out of the dress. They kiss passionately before Alektra moves down to lick Lorena's pussy and give her a little finger attention. Alektra moves up so Lorena can suck her tits as they continue to kiss before they sixty-nine. Alektra also works Lorena over with her on all fours before tonguing Alektra's pussy as Alektra lies back on the bed. Finally they kiss holding each other tight.

This is a pretty hot scene. The girls look to be nicely into each other, and Alektra stays nicely in command for most of the scene without getting really dominant. The lighting is very low once again, but gets a little darker than in Lorena's scene with Tony. Sadly this means you can barely see the girls, and although it helps slightly with the mood, it also holds back the scene quite a bit because you can barely even tell who's working on who through most of the scene. This is a pretty good scene, but with a little more light it could have been a lot better scene.

Black Worm is a very impressive adult movie. In this case, “movie” really was the key word for me. This isn't your typical adult feature where you have a plot that needs more lube than a virgin at a DP gangbang to be able to slide the sex into it. Instead it's a story where the sex fits into it extremely well complete with characters and motivations for the sex. The actors are nicely believable in their roles, and the non-sex characters are every bit as important as the characters who are going to be bumping uglies. The plot develops nicely throughout the movie and the entire movie has a great sense of style. Andreas Tabogo shows that he isn't willing to sacrifice his story by taking out things one normally doesn't see in porn. Guns, drugs, and violence are all here, and he even manages to work around some of the bloodier action with a little extra creative style that works well and surprisingly doesn't compromise anything. Lighting, camera angles, and a lightly non-linear storyline with a couple of artistic dream sequences all play into Black Worm and help it to be much more than just a fuck flick. That isn't to say that there isn't much fucking or that it isn't well done. The scenes are on the short side of things, but rarely feel like they're shorting the viewer on the action. They do have a tendency to get a little dark, but they rarely have the feeling of being held back so that they don't offend anybody like so many other scenes in current features do. The sense of style also continues into the sex and is a big reason why they fit into the movie so well. Black Worm is quite easily the most impressive adult feature I've seen come out so far in 2007, and if this is how high Pulpo wants to set the bar for themselves on their debut release I can't wait to see what else they can do.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, only a few stores are offering Black Worm on DVD, and they're all offering it for just under $25. If this movie interests you at all, don't even think twice about the cost and get it. The movie is extremely well done, with good sex and a very well done story. The technical aspects are great with the exception of some of it getting a little too dark, but there is enough care to it that there is an anamorphic widescreen transfer. The only thing that really holds the DVD back is that there's no real effort put into the extras. Even though it's short on extras, this is a great movie that deserves to be checked out.

Note to Pulpo: If this is the kind of movie you're planning on putting out, I can't wait to see what else you do. In the future, however, I hope you include a few extras such as behind the scenes featurettes or interviews with the girls.
