Running Time: 58 min.
Production Date: October 1996
Director: none given
Cast: Dr. Marty Klein and several real couples
Initial Expectations: I’ve had mixed reactions to The Sinclair Institute’s DVDs, but lately they’ve been pretty good which gives me some hope.
Initial Reaction: It’s not bad, but there isn’t really anything new if you’ve seen Sinclair’s other DVDs.
Who Should Watch It : Anybody looking to improve their sex life, especially if you or your partner has trouble having orgasms.
Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who
Audio /Video Quality: The audio quality is very good. It’s clear and very well balanced. The video has a little grain and is a little fuzzy in a couple times, but it still looks pretty good and I’m sure it’s better than the original VHS.
Music: The music rests very nicely in the background. It sometimes comes up a little, but it’s very romantic and helps to keep the feature more relaxed and romantic.
Disc Problems / Complaints: As with the rest of The Better Sex Video Series DVDs, there isn’t a time stamp. This always bugs me as I don’t always have time to watch an entire DVD in one sitting, and I know I’m not alone. A time stamp allows the viewer to skip to any instant whether they’re continuing to watch the feature from an earlier time or just checking out something during repeat viewings.
Menus: The menus are extremely simple, but that’s all that’s needed here.
The Feature: Just as Monty Python pointed out that every sperm is sacred, Dr. Marty Klein points out that every orgasm is different. In today’s society, the normal goal in sex is to have an orgasm, and if you’re a caring partner, trying to make your partner have an orgasm as well. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in some cases the pressure of trying to have an orgasm is enough that the body can’t achieve orgasm. For those people, they may have found a little help in The Big O: An Erotic Guide to Better Orgasm.
Dr. Klein starts out covering the body’s changes during orgasm, although he leaves out Robin Williams observation that an orgasm can easily turn He-Man into Goofy, or even worse in today’s society, Barney. To make it easier to understand, diagrams are also used. Dr. Klein also covers many of the stimulations that can help one to reach orgasm such as oral sex. If you’re unsure of this, you might want to check out Sinclair’s Better Oral Sex Techniques . Dr. Klein goes through stimulation for both men and women, as well as giving tips on the G-Spot.
Of course, the orgasm is also covered. You’re responsible for your own orgasm, so take a part in it. Show your partner what you like and worry more about what’s happening to you that what you’re doing to your partner. If you communicate what you both like it’ll work out so that both of you find out what the other really likes. If you fake it, you’re only cheating yourself as your partner won’t know what really turns you on. If things work out right, you might even find yourself having multiple orgasms if you’re a woman. Multiples, although not common for men, can happen if the man works at it in the right way. Of course, taking responsibility for your own orgasm means that you might have to take matters into your own hands.
Your orgasm can also be enhanced. The easiest way is to let yourself go completely doing things such as screaming as you cum. Breath control and toys can also be used to enhance things.
Finally, there’s a little bit of troubleshooting. Dr. Klein talks about some of the common problems with orgasms and how to deal with them.
Although I don’t think it was meant to be, The Big O: An Erotic Guide to Better Orgasms feels kind of like The Best of the Sinclair Institute . It’s full of little tips from the other DVDs Sinclair has released. I guess it only makes sense, since normally the Sinclair Institute titles are fairly specific, such as the aforementioned Better Oral Sex Techniques , Unlocking the Secrets of the G-Spot , or Creative Positions For Lovers . To release a feature with little tips from many of their features is a good idea, and works fairly well. It’s fairly clinical through much of the feature, but using real couples to explicitly demonstrate during the clinical narration goes a long way to making The Big O: An Erotic Guide to Better Orgasms a great addition to Sinclair’s line.

Extras: Most of the extras have already been seen on Sinclair’s other DVDs. The sexual health information is included on every Sinclair Institute DVD and the No Greater Love featurette was included with 10 Secrets to Great Sex .
The main extra is a thirty two minute featurette called The Lover’s Guide to Sex Toys and hosted by everybody’s favorite sex therapist, Dr. Marty Klein. As with everything else concerning sex, good communication is still a must. Some people are very uncomfortable about sex toys, and you have to let your partner know what you do and don’t like. Many different toys are covered here, such as the normal vibrators and mini-massagers and they even work up to the Dumblonde approved Eroscillator. Toys for finding the G-spot are also covered as well as demonstrated. Of course, lubes such as Astroglide are also needed sometimes and are also covered. Less common toys are also included, such as the love swing, the Kama Sutra weekender kit which includes many different potions, and the love pillow. Finally, erotic videos are covered. It’s a nice little primer for sex toys and should help out couples who aren’t too sure about sex toys.
Themes: Educational, straight, and toys
Raincoat Factor: Medium low
Overall: Currently, The Big O: An Erotic Guide to Better Orgasm can be found online for between $13 and $22 with most stores offering it for about $20. If you’re having trouble having orgasms, it’s going to be twenty bucks very well spent. The transfer is very good as are the extras.
Note to Sinclair: Since I’ve mentioned it in every other review, I’d hate to leave it out this time. Please add a time stamp to your features. You know why. Although you have some great features out, many of them are feeling very similar. Please release some different style features in your next group, such as maybe something on sensual massage.
