The Movie |
Barbarella: A Kinky Parody was a web series for the Kink.com website, which originally showed on six of their fetish sites, Ultimate Surrender (fetish), ElectroSluts (femdom), Divine Bitches (femdom), Whipped Ass (femdom), Sex and Submission (BDSM/bondage), and Fucking Machines (fetish). The web episodes that are contained in this release specifically are 34171 UltimateSurrender, 34167 ElectroSluts, 34168 DivineBitches, 34170 WhippedAss, 34298 SexAndSubmission, and 34168 FuckingMachines.
Since Kink is a fetish website, the scenes feature a range of fetishes, which was one of the ultimate failures to the movie. Understandably, this movie is a compilation of scenes from there website and being a fetish site, one expects such. However, in trying to create the feature presentation for the release, some additional scenes could have been created. Also, the scenes are long, with very little plot to go with them. Which seems to be a shame, given some of the work that went into the production. For the feature release on home video, Kink might have been better off going with shorter edits of the web scenes and adding additional plotted scenes into the movie to better satisfy the feature audience with the unedited scenes on the release as extras.
The plot, which sounds more impressive when written than seen. In the future, the universe has been neutered and become a non-sexual civilized place to live. The President of the Republic of the United States of Earth (Peter Acworth) sends Barbarella (Lorelei Lee) to find scientist Dylan Ryan (Dylan Ryan), who disappeared on a information gathering mission to the North Star and is believed to be organizing an intergalactic rebellion of kinky rebels intent on starting a corporeal pleasure rebellion. Barbarella's mission goes awry when her spaceship crash lands before reaching Dylan Ryan's location.
Much of the set design within the movie is rather impressive. There were some scenes, the ones from Devine Bitches, Whipped Ass, and Fucking Machines where the sets seemed to be seriously lacking. However the others, Ultimate Surrender, Sex and Submission, and ElectroSluts sets were rather impressive. The two mini sets for the spaceship and for the beginning of Divine Bitches were also well done. There are some rather cheesy poorly done stop motion animation sequences and other places with some nice special effects thrown in.
The acting for the most part is non-existent. There were moments of some actual creepiness like with Aiden Starr, Chanel Preston, and Ariel X entering as the androids in ElectroSluts. And other inspired moments of actual character design, like when Barbarella first meets Pygar (Kip Johnson) in the beginning of the labyrinth. However, for the most part, characters didn't seem to be well developed at all.
All in all, what Barbarella: A Kinky Parody, does well are the fetish scenes, which makes sense since it was produced by Kink. Where Barbarella: A Kinky Parody fails is on being a parody or a feature movie. If you are a fan of the web series or of Kink's websites, this movie is perfect. If you are looking for a feature film, this movie will fail you.
The Edition |
Kink has done a nice job with the video presentation on this disc. Barbarella: A Kinky Parody is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The picture presentation is crisp and sharp with great color reproduction. The movie is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track which works fine for the material being presented. No viewer should have any issues with the presentation on the disc.
Kink has included essentially no extras on the release for Barbarella: A Kinky Parody. There is a photo gallery included on the disc and a feature called interviews, which is just footage of the consent from the cast, prior to doing a scene, and then the cast talking about how great the scene was, after doing the scene. Honestly, interviews was a useless extra that doesn't add anything to the disc.
Final Thoughts |
Barbarella: A Kinky Parody is the web series from Kink brought to DVD, which is short on plot but long on fetish. If you are looking for a feature film, this will be an easy pass for you. If you like the fetish sites of Kink and dislike too much plot getting in the way of the sex scenes then they have done an excellent job with this release.
