Initial Expectations: I’ve had very mixed reactions to NuTech’s anime DVDs, but for some reason I have a bit of hope here.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting a fun and light adult cartoon

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants cartoons held to the same limitations as regular porn

Audio /Video Quality: The audio and video both appear very good for what the source is like. The animation isn’t that developed, think Pokemon, but there isn’t any noticeable pixelation or remnants to hold it back further.

Music: There’s a little Japanese style music in the background, and it fits cartoons more than it fits porn.

Menus: The main menu is extremely long, but not bad. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a title for the scene.

The Feature: The Angels in the Court Box Set contains Angels in the Court 1 and Angels in the Court 2 DVDs. As I’ve already reviewed each of these DVDs separately, I’ll cover some general points and leave the specifics to those individual reviews.

The story of Angels in the Court revolves around Coach Akira Motoura and his girl’s volleyball team. The team is preparing for the championship game when mysterious student Nanase arrives. The girls aren’t sure what to make of her, as she seems to need a special attention from the coach that most people look down on in public. The story develops nicely throughout the two features, and blends a nicely flowing story with the sex.

The sex in Angels in the Court is nicely done. Almost all of it borders on pedophilia, but the age of the girls all seems to be bordering on legal. More importantly, however, is that the sex is all fun. It’s often played for laughs and always has a good spirit about it. There’s nothing close to rape and somebody always seems to be smiling in the scenes. This helped me to easily get past the age questions and just sit back and enjoy it. The only complaints I can have about the sex is that most of the scenes are short and broke up, and none of them contain pop shots.

The animation style for Angels in the Court also helps out the episodes. It’s not highly developed, but it nicely brings in the over exaggerations that anime is often known for. You get the huge bulging eyes, as well as other body parts, which helps keep things light. There’s plenty of sports action here, and rather than going with either smooth animation or jerky attempts at making things smooth, you have a bit of focus on the motion and a series of stills. Sometimes this annoys me, but here it actually worked well.

Angels in the Court is a fun story. It acknowledges that it’s a cartoon and goes with the opportunities cartoons allow rather than trying to be a movie in cartoon form. The story develops nicely throughout the two episodes and blends the sex into it nicely. I found myself smiling many times as I watched Angels in the Court and think that it’s two of the most enjoyable anime DVDs from NuTech that I’ve watched so far. This one is definitely worth checking out unless you’re looking for women to be drugged, abused, and raped..

Extras: The extras are exactly the same on both DVDs. A photo gallery is included for Shayla, Haven, and the feature itself. Each gallery for the girls lasts about two minutes and a quarter with six seconds per nice looking full screen photo, while the feature gallery lasts about a minute and a half. There’s also weblinks and trailers for most of NuTech’s animated releases.

Overall: Currently the Angels in the Court Box Set can be found online for between $20 and $41 with most stores offering it around $30. Despite the short running time, the low end isn’t too bad here, just because I really did enjoy the feature. The movie is fun and the sex blends into it nicely. The technical aspects aren’t too bad, but there isn’t much worth mentioning for extras.

Note to NuTech: It’s great to see you releasing some more fun hentai rather than just stuff about rape. Now if you could only figure out how to release full series on DVDs rather than single episodes!
