The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Angel Core 1 didn't do a lot for me, but it was just interesting enough that I decided to check out the second installment. I can't say that I'm going in with too high of expectations.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio is only presented in Japanese with the option of several different subtitles. The video varies. Some of it is pretty good, but others are quite blurry.

Music: The music is nicely done, and very well balanced with the rest of the audio.

Menus: The main menu works together some decent animation with a good still. The chapter menu is very generic, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a chapter number. There's also a menu to let you go directly to either of the sex scenes.

The Feature

One war over, and another is ready to start. In this time, the United Empire tries to conquer the world. By bringing together science and magic, they've isolated the “Angel Core” from those descended from Angels and combined it with technologically advanced weapons. While recovering from a recent terrorist attack, word comes that the Fuhrer will be arriving to check out the newest line of war machines. At the same time, Lt. Ralph finds out that Onoma and Salsa are in more danger than they thought.

Scene 1 – Onoma, Salsa, and three soldiers

In order to save Onoma from sexual torture, Salsa agrees to take on a group of soldiers. They fuck her with a dildo that she immediately screams is too long while another fucks her face and cums on it. They fuck her ass, pierce her nipples with needles, and make her watch as they work over Onoma anyway. Finally, the scene fades out.

This scene did absolutely nothing for me. It's more about torture and rape than anything, and there wasn't a single moment of pleasure for either of the girls. This was a horrible scene.

Scene 2 – Onoma and Ralph

After recovering, Onoma goes to Ralph to thank him for his help and care before letting him take her sexually. Ralph undresses her and drops down to eat her pussy before getting back up to let her suck his cock. They sixty-nine before he lets her ride him cowgirl style. Finally, he cums in her pussy.

This is a much nicer scene. There's some good care between Ralph and Onoma, and although the scene is short it moves pretty good. This scene is almost the exact opposite of the previous scene.

Angel Core 2 is another fairly disappointing anime release. The sex is better here, as it at least balances out the horrible rape and torture scene with a passionate lovemaking scene, but the movie as a whole still feels like a waste. There's a lot of interesting ideas here, but they're all tossed aside to concentrate on the darkness instead. It also feels rushed while having plot holes big enough to toss crates of Angel Core DVDs through. Angel Core 2 continues to have some decent ideas that it passes by to concentrate on stuff that just isn't a turn on.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for six installments of Daiajuki, Moral Hazard, Ninja 1, two parts of Arisa, Angel Core 1, Android, and Maid in Heaven Supers as well as showing boxcovers for many other titles. Bios are included for Commander Ralph, Celeste, and Monomma from the movie complete with a few drawings of each. They'd be nice bios except that they don't quite work. I guess Celeste is supposed to be Salsa, but the character bios are enough to actually explain the feature better than it often does. The photo gallery lasts a little over a minute, with about five seconds per very nice looking full screen photo. There's a nice mix of clips from the movie as well as character sketches. There's also bonus footage, DVD ROM features, and links.

Bonus Feature

The unnamed bonus footage lasts about twenty minutes, and is a second feature. It takes place at a University where nineteen year old Madoka Misaki has almost finished her first year. When she finds the man of her dreams making out with another girl at the campus job office, she runs back to her room to diddle herself.

Scene 1 – Madoka and a Teacher

After talking with her friend Yooki, Madoka decides to take another try and the teacher, and ends up getting the same treatment as the earlier girl after having a talk with him. They exchange oral favors before he fucks her from behind and lets her have a midair reverse cowgirl ride. They keep going with a little missionary work before he pops all over her tits.

Scene 2 – Yooki and a Teacher

When she goes back to tell Yooki about it, Madoka finds out that Yooki has been having a thing with the other teacher there who likes to be dominated. Yooki gives him a little pleasure as well riding him cowgirl style, but there's never a visible pop.

Scene 3 – Madoka, Yooki, and a Teacher

This is a very enjoyable little feature. There's a nice range of sex in it, and unlike so many other hentai releases it comes off as completely legal and completely consensual. This is a very nice change, and I think a large part of why I enjoyed it as much as I did. There's a fun feeling throughout the feature, and it flows nicely with the sex fitting nicely into a thin story. This is a very nice feature that I enjoyed more than everything I've seen from the Angel Core series.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Hot Storm's DVDs can be found online for between about $14 and $25 with a few stores offering them near the low end. There's no way I can recommend anybody spend that kind of money on this release. It might work for some people, but with a feature that only lasts a half hour this one seems like a ripoff. The overall DVD leaves a bit to be desired, with a feature that's mildly interesting with varying technical aspects. There's some decent care put into the extras with an extra feature, but that still doesn't help this release too much. This is a lacking DVD with the extra feature surpassing the main feature.

Note to Hot Storm: You didn't do too bad a job here, but please quit releasing only half hour releases at a time. Even with a bonus feature it doesn't cut it for the price tag.
