The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Nic Cramer has had many more misses than hits with me. I just can’t get too excited for this one, but at the same time I can see his style working well for it.

Initial Reaction: It’s a pretty good couples movie.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting something soft and a little artistic

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting nastier sex or a strong plot

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very nicely done. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I don’t think I heard a single background noise. The movie is presented in the widescreen format, but unfortunately is non-anamorphic widescreen rather than anamorphic, as it should be treated. It’s nicely lit, but as usual with Nic Cramer there’s a hint of grain.

Music: The music is nicely done. It rests very quietly in the background, but has a creepy feel that really helps out the overall feel of the movie.

False Advertising: The cover claims there are cast biographies, but I didn’t find them anywhere on the DVD. I’m deducting a half point from the overall score because of it.

Menus: The menus are okay. The main menu has a nice bit of animation to give a good first impression. The chapter menu is fairly unimpressive and just lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene.

The Feature

According to the cover, Ava Vincent is in a haunted house. She’s scared and calls her boyfriend to comfort her, but more than anything she’s just horny as can be. If you can get much more plot out of this one than that, you’re lucky.

Scene 1 - Ava Vincent

Ava quickly starts things out with a diddle on the bed. She leaves her clothes on and pulls her panties to the side to play with herself. She diddles herself softly with her fingers, and concentrates on rubbing herself rather than poking herself. Finally she stops when she has an orgasm.

This is a nice little scene. It’s nothing wild, but it works very well to start the movie. The camera moves around nicely to capture things and I rarely wanted a different angle than what was shown. The scene is definitely sexual and at the same time works in a little bit of a creepy feeling by having some of the guys pop up to watch her a little.

Scene 2 - Julie Meadows and Dillion Day

Dillion and Julie magically appear in front of Ava as she watches TV to make out next. Dillion drops down to work Julie over with his tongue and finger as she squeals away. Julie returns the favor by working Dillion over orally, giving him some great smiles, a little throat, and plenty of great eyes as she works. Julie climbs up to ride Dillion reverse cowgirl style before turning around and bouncing on his baloney pony cowgirl style. They finish things up with a little doggie style before Dillion deposits his dick droppings on Julie’s face.

This is a pretty good scene. Dillion and Julie seem to be into each other pretty well, and put some nice energy in the scene. The camera captures things very well, and did a nice job of capturing the action without a lot of graphic close-ups. The scene seemed like it was missing a little something, or maybe the softer artistic feel just interfered with the action a little, but other than that this is a nicely done scene.

Scene 3 - Ava Vincent and Evan Stone

Ava gets it on with Evan in the theater after seeing her boyfriend Alec getting it on with her best friend Skyler on the movie screen. She quickly goes to work sucking Evan’s cock before letting Evan get beneath her to tongue her twat. Ava lays back for Evan to eat her a little more before he slides his cock into her missionary style. Ava also lets Evan take her from behind and rides him in both cowgirls. This is another nicely done scene. It has a slightly soft feel due to the style of the camera work, but there’s some very nice passion between Ava and Evan. They put nice energy into the scene, but the penetration shots are few and far between once the scene gets doing. It’s a pretty hot scene, and moves along very well.

Scene 4 - Skylar Knight and Alec Metro

After Ava gets done with Evan, things move back to Skylar and Alec. He quickly tongues and fingers her twat before she lets her oral magic work on his cock. I couldn’t help but wonder with how Alec looked if he as having some major problems finishing things up. This scene hovers around the average level.

Scene 5 - Wendy Divine, Tabitha Tyler, and Dillion Day

Things cut to Dillion taking on Wendy and Tabitha in a smoky area next. The girls work a little oral action around before Tabitha lays back for Dillion to fuck her missionary style as Wendy continues to make her way between them. Wendy takes her turn bouncing on Dillion reverse cowgirl style next before he fucks each of them from behind. Finally, Dillion pops on Wendy’s face, barely getting her in the eye before the camera cuts out.

This is a fairly average scene. Although Wendy, Tabitha, and Dillion did a pretty good job, the style of the scene just didn’t seem quite right. It was a little too artistic and I often wanted a slight change of the camera or action throughout almost the entire scene. The worst part of the scene, however, is the pop shot, which was cut off way too soon.

Scene 6 - Ava Vincent, Alec Metro, and Randy Spears

When Alec arrives to join her in bed, Ava quickly makes her way down to mouth his manhood. Of course she gives him plenty of great eyes as she sucks and strokes him, and then lets him go right to spooning her snatch. This is a pretty good scene. It has a weird feel to it due to the guys coming and going before they cum and go, but it also fits with the movie. Ava does a great job of handling the guys, and the scene moves along very nicely. This is a good scene and a nice way to finish up the movie.

After Dark is an okay couples movie. The plot is very thin, but it’s enough to keep things going through the movie. More than anything, the movie is about style, which Nic Cramer can do quite well if he sets his mind to it. Normally his style doesn’t work for me as he feels a need to tint much of the video or do other horrendous things to it that make me wonder if most of the couples who enjoy his work met at a family reunion. Thankfully that isn’t the case here. The sex here is normally nicely done. There’s some very nice chemistry in the scenes, and the cameras capture it very well. It never gets nasty and normally has a slightly artistic look to it, but it’s never so much that the artistic feel strangles the sexuality of the scene. After Dark is a decent fuck flick for couples.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many DVDs from the Pleasure family can be found online for between $3 and $25 with most stores offering it from $15 on up. At the low end, this is a great buy. The movie is fairly artistic, but there’s some nice sex here. There aren’t any extras to speak of, but the technical aspects are done pretty well. This is a basic DVD that’s done okay.

Note to Pleasure Productions: Please watch your cover claims a little better. I know this is one of your older titles, but everybody should know better than to list things on the cover that aren’t on the DVD.
