Adrenaline (Sin City) Review

Also, as with the rest of Sin City’s DVDs, there’s no time stamp on most of the movie. It’s a little weird. For the first 77 minutes, there’s no time stamp. Then for the last twenty minutes there is. It looks careless or like somebody thought it was a problem in the middle of the transfer but didn’t care enough to do the entire thing right. It would have been better if it was left without a time code. From my communications with Sin City since Underworld, they are hopefully changing the time stamp issue in the future. I can’t wait!

I’ve heard complaints about Sin City’s early DVD releases where it’s split into two titles, such as it is here (one has the time stamp and the other doesn’t). It used to be that if you were in the second chapter you couldn’t scan backwards into the first chapter. I had this problem myself on the couple early Sin City titles I reviewed, but I didn’t have that problem here. It gives me a lot of hope in Sin City changing the time stamp issue in the near future.

The Feature: When Eden (Ava Vincent) and Johnny Six (Evan Stone) come into town, you can be pretty sure there’s going to be trouble. They cut off a pickup and pull into a gas station both dressed mostly in black and in quite a bit of leather. When they pull a gun on the cashier in the gas station, you know they’re trouble. They tie him up, fuck, and then blow him away before they leave. Johnny, and especially Eden, get off on the theft and Eden is still horny when they get to the hotel. Johnny blows off Eden to get something to eat at the diner where he meets waitress Angie (Jessica Drake). Angie’s the lonely type who immediately falls for Johnny’s charisma and asks him to walk her home. Angie’s waiting for her Prince Charming to come and sweep her off her feet after being married at sixteen and divorced at eighteen when he ran off with one of her friends. Johnny also meets the Sheriff Holder (Dillion Day) who can’t quite place Johnny. The next day the sheriff finds Clyde and remembers Johnny’s wanted poster. He finds and arrests Eden when he goes looking for Johnny back at the café. While Eden does what she can to try and persuade Sheriff Holder to see things her way, Johnny takes Angie on a picnic. They decide to leave town the next morning, Angie saying she wouldn’t miss it for the world. When FBI Special Agents James (Julie Meadows) and Kayes (Alec Metro) show up, the Sheriff takes Agent Kayes off to Angie’s house in hopes of catching Johnny there. While Angie tells Agent Kayes where Johnny’s staying, Johnny’s busy busting Eden out of jail and go on the run again. It all ends at the gas station, as Johnny and Eden find themselves penned in by the FBI and Sheriff Holder with Angie on her way and ready to leave town. It’s a great ending that fits the movie very well.

The sex fits the movie amazingly well. Even more surprisingly, it’s very couples friendly. It’s a little rougher than most couples movies, having some spanking and choking, but it isn’t too rough and it fits in with the movie great. There are no group scenes, no lesbian scenes (not even a kiss), and no anal. It’s very rare to see in today’s adult films and even rarer to see it done this well. It’s Evan and Ava’s movie, so if you’re a fan of either of them, you’re going to be happy. One or both of them are in every scene but one.

Ava Vincent and Evan Stone ride the adrenaline rush of robbing the gas station in the first scene. Ava tells Evan she wants to suck his cock before they even leave the gas station. As Evan puts it to Clyde, the clerk, “What’s a guy to do?”. Ava whips out Evan’s cock to suck him off while Evan holds a gun on Clyde. Ava devours his cock while Clyde, bound and gagged, makes the best of being robbed. Ava orders Evan to fuck her harder as he pumps away on her, still half dressed. It’s a very hot scene and both Evan and Ava deserve a lot of credit. Evan has a slightly crazed look in his eye through most of the scene which goes well with some of the darkness you see in Ava’s eyes. Sex scenes are always a lot better when it seems like the characters are fucking rather than the cast. Sadly, there aren’t many actors and actresses who can fuck in character.

Evan and Jessica get au natural on a picnic. It’s a nice touch for an outdoor scene. It feels real and romantic and there’s actually a reason to have a blanket there rather than the magically appearing blanket. There’s even a picnic basket that’s visible in much of the scene. Sadly, Jessica had a boob job sometime before shooting Adrenaline (I’m not sure how long before but it’s the first of her movie’s I’ve noticed it). At certain angles they look lumpy, which is never a good thing for breasts. It’s a nicely romantic scene, with Evan complimenting Jessica on her looks during the scene as she rides his cock and he spanks her ass. They have great chemistry, and once again it feels like it’s the characters fucking rather than the stars. This time, Evan finishes the scene by leaving his mark across Jessica’s stomach.

Jailbird (not to be confused with jailbait) Ava starts out the next scene by blowing Sheriff Dillion through the jail bars. Ava has some amazing eyes and some of the best to see looking up while the rest of the face works over a hard dick. It doesn’t take her long to persuade the Dillion to see things her way, as she’s wearing his cowboy hat as he eats her pussy in the jail cell. Before long he’s pumping away on her pussy while Ava grunts away. She’s got a great intensity here and it’s easy to understand why Sin City signed her as a contract girl. Once again, she appears that she’s going to take a load on her pretty face, but instead she jerks Dillion off into her hands and then licks it up for a very hot finish.

Julie Meadows takes Alec Metro’s mind off of Ava’s jailbreak back at the motel. Julie has been one of my favorite actresses since I first saw her and this scene stands right up among her best. There aren’t many female stars who appear to enjoy their work as much as Julie does. She devours his cock while fondling her tits or his balls while giving little laughs or mmm’s. She keeps a smile on her face even while sucking cock. Sadly, Alec doesn’t return the favor, but I’m not going to complain about getting to watch Julie bounce up and down on his cock. She stays fairly vocal throughout the scene, either telling him to fuck her deeper and squealing away. She finishes things off with a great facial, licking the cum off of his dick. It’s every bit as hot as you’d expect from Julie and hot enough to make you an instant fan if this is your first time to see her.

Finally, Evan and Ava get it on again in a storage room as the cops search for them. Once again, the adrenaline turns Ava on making her horny as a two peckered billy goat. Evan eats her out before she tries to work Evan’s long pole down her throat. It takes a little bit, but she does work her mouth all the way down to Evan’s balls. There’s some nice tension to the scene as you can see the red light from the police car flashing in the room. It’s another very hot scene that fits great with the rest of the movie. Evan didn’t appear to have much of a pop at the end, but with how Ava swallowed his cock as he blew his load it’s hard to know how much he blew.

Adrenaline is a very rare adult movie. It’s got a great plot that’s mixed with great couples sex. It’s a little rougher couples sex, but I don’t think it will turn off many people. I can’t honestly think of a really bad thing about the movie. There’s a minor thing or two I didn’t think were top notch, but at it’s worst, it’s better than three quarters of the movies out there and overall it’s better than ninety percent of the other movies out there. If you’re a fan of Michael Raven, or just wondering if he’s as good as the hype (from what I’ve seen, yes he is), go order Adrenaline and then come back here to finish reading this.

Extras: Like many of the other major studios, Sin City has a two sides cover for Adrenaline, one hard core and one soft core. The photo gallery contains about thirty three full screen photos that range from average down to very poor. A few of them seem very blurry but since Mr. Raven seems to like to use film rather than video, this may be an effect of the medium. Trailers are available for Eighteen and Awesome, Eighteen and Anxious, and the first four Just 18 features.

The real highlight of the extras is the behind the scenes featurette which lasts just over twelve minutes. Evan, Ava, Julie, Jessica, and Dillion all give a short intro where they tell the camera about their role. Michael Raven himself also gives a little tour of the ranch where the movie is filmed as well as telling how he came up with the story. Finally, there’s quite a bit of actual behind the scenes that give a nice feel to the making of the movie and the personality of the cast and crew. It’s a great behind the scenes and well worth watching.

Raincoat Factor: Low for the first forty minutes and high for the rest.

Overall: Currently, Adrenaline can be found online for between $14 and $25 with most stores offering it for $22 and up. For $14 this should be on almost every adult film fan’s shelf. Both the movie and the sex are great. It sounds great but the video has a few minor flaws, none of which really interfere with the movie, and some grain which might turn some people off.

Note to Sin City: Please drop the commercials at the start of your DVDs. At the very least, allow the customer to skip them if they so choose. On the technical side of things, please pay a little closer attention to the audio / video synch. The couple spots where it didn’t match was very noticeable. Also, please decide whether you want a time stamp or not. As it is, it’s very weird and really stands out. On the plus, or maybe I should say the hope side, it would also be great to hear a commentary from Mr. Raven in the future. After writing, directing, and even having a small part in this movie I’m sure he has many interesting things to say about it. Also, biographies for the stars would be a nice addition to the extras. After watching a movie like this, I think a lot of people are going to want to know a little more and definitely will want to see more of this cast. Bios give that information and tend to make them curious about more of your movies with those stars.
