  Short non-spoiler review: I think it was made with a very clear mission statement in mind: Don't piss anyone off this time. I wasn't pissed off. I think the movie was very safe and predictable. Does that make it bad? No, that actually made it good. But it also kept it from being great. If you're a fan who looked at the trailers carefully and developed theories about what might happen, almost all your theories were probably right.   Some initial impressions: *I liked the puppy. *I liked Lucy Tyler and despite still not watching much porn these days, I am now seeking out some of her scenes. Surely not the intended effect. *Like pretty much every porn documentary (and most documentaries period), for people who already know an above-average amount about the subject industry, you're not going to learn anything. The only value here is a lot of what amounts to candid BTS footage, but that's something. *The filmmakers are very, um, judicious in the questions they choose to ask and not ask, to address and not address.   I find this harder to say with Vivid particularly because it is traditionally such a star-driven studio. I don't know that it's "crucial" that anyone see Sex and Sex 2, but it is fairly crucial to see Nikki Dial. I can take or leave The Awakening, but Kobe Tai should be seen in something. Also, while I've always been contrarian when it comes to the Vivid-bashing that was epidemic when I was around here more, I don't have a lot of love for a lot of individual movies. Especially when technical shortcomings of the discs work against so many of them, such as Fade to Black or Pretty Girl. I'm curious why you ask.   So I finally started looking at this book. It's arranged in what seem like pretty self-contained chapters about the individual stars, so I skipped right to the first two I felt like reading about: Veronica Hart and Christy Canyon. So far, I'm not impressed by the writing. The interviewing may have gone well, but the parts in between the long slabs of transcription honestly came off as very amateurish to me, often written in a term-paperish style and riddled with alarmingly eye-rolling and bizarre errors -- from the grammatical to citing years that don't add up. Really, Spider-Man starred "Tobey McQuire"? There are "Toni" awards for the stage? It doesn't give me faith in the accuracy of anything in there. But the block q...

  I think I take a back seat to no one in my admiration for Veronica Hart in all phases and eras of her career, but I always thought she kind of overdelivered her lines. It was kind of a common thing in the Golden Age, which I think might be a manifestation of the difference between theater and film acting, with a lot of refugees from the New York stage acting in porn. For a more naturalistic modern style, I'm going to go recent and say I always got a lot out of Sydnee Steele. I say it all the time, but I think one thing she was terrific about was not only acting, but acting sexy, which is often the point. She seemed to have a lot of innate confidence.   I think it's a "bug". Gay action in america is way too taboo? Well, right after it glitched the kiss, they went and had sex, so I doubt that.

  So after years of pretending she was a heterosexual committed to Kaidan, after all this buildup and history, my FemShep finally made her move on Liara. Huge, emotional moment. The time was right, the world was ending, she went in for the kiss, and ... the game glitched. Liara's face disappeared off screen and FemShep was kissing air. That may be the worst bug I've ever seen. Otherwise, I loved Mass Effect 3. In addition to being a pretty good game, I think it qualifies as one of my favorite sci-fi movies ever.

  I have no connection to the real Rocky Horror, so I don't know if I'll be interested, but I liked Veronica Hart's Misty Beethoven musical. It wasn't that great really, but basically I gave it an A-plus-plus for effort, because they were doing their own singing and I found it charming.

  I would say that Morgan movies like Space Nuts and Camp Cuddly Pines are genre parodies rather than movie parodies. Back in the pre-gonzo early '90s, I feel like tons of movies were parodies because it was probably easier than thinking of something original. But those crappy Coast to Coast or Legend movies sometimes were just parody titles and didn't try very hard on the script level. They just wanted to cash in by having a movie called Buffy the Vampire Layer (off the movie, not the TV show), or Hindfeld or Juranal Park. I actually remember thinking during the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan business that it would be a porn movie within a couple of months.   When I try to give people the &quot;this is a good porn movie&quot; pitch, I always try to go for something modern, just so I'm not implicitly making the statement that there hasn't been anything good since 1982. Also, I'm not looking to convince anyone that these are masterpieces, just that if they think an episode of Bones is a good use of an hour, they're not doing any worse by watching any of a half-dozen of Stormy's movies.   Sometimes when I watch Body Talk or Titillation, I'm tempted to feel bad about Angelique Pettyjohn's career. When you see Golden Age porn actresses, you tend to think of young starlets aspiring to make it up to mainstream but working in adult in the meantime, or as a substitute. Pettyjohn had already had her 15 minutes on television, in Star Trek and Get Smart, and you could easily imagine her winding up in porn as a slide downward at the end of her career. Partly that's just overimagination -- who knows the real story -- but it's easy to envision it that way. Then there's the knowledge that within 10 years of Body Talk, she actually would die of cancer. It's a bummer.
