Ancient slavery generally wasn't racial (with the exception of Sparta maybe, though the Helots were whites) most of the slaves in Rome were Europeans Barbarians

captured after a defeat in battle which was the basic rule of the era for those who lost in war. ethnic based slavery though was unknown except maybe for Sparta
