With films like "Dark Garden" and "Bliss" showing up on DVD, complete with director's commentaries and "making of featurettes," VCA has done a commendable job releasing high profile prestige projects in today's porn market. Directors like Antonio Passolini and Michael Ninn are among the very few filmmakers who actually employ mood and atmosphere as a backdrop for good old athletic sucking and fucking, and the results are exceptional, solid erotic films as opposed to assembly-line porn vids.However, the formulaic, shot-on-videotape pornos which were so prevalent in the late eighties and nineties can often be equally arousing, despite their cheesy looks or cliched plots; it just all depends on a competent director, and hot performers. BRIDE ON THE RUN, a recent VCA release, fits that exact bill. Directed by veteran pornographer Fred Lincoln, this movie is a formulaic, unpretentious video which I found surprisingly satisfying and even refreshing.
