XXX (Gen XXX) Review

CENSORSHIP WARNING: An entire scene has been edited out of the movie between Davia and Ian Daniels near the start. There’s no mention of any editing on the cover or anywhere else that I found. Furthermore, both Ian and Davia are still listed on the boxcover. I’m deducting a half point for the bad handling of the censorship.

Running Time: 91 min.

Production Date: cover states June 30, 1998, IAFD claims 1996, and the disclaimer before the movie states pre-July 1995. I’m guessing the IAFD is probably right.

Initial Expectations: I’ve had some mixed results from Nic Cramer, so I’m keeping an open mind here.

Initial Reaction: It’s a very well done movie, but could have used a lot more attention for the video.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants a decent plot, art direction, and acting with their sex

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who doesn’t like shadows

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is normally clear and balanced, although there are a few times when it’s a little off balance. There are also more than a few directions given to the cast that are more than a little audible. The video is dark throughout the entire feature. It helps give the feature quite a bid of the mood, but is also overdone and held back some of the sex. There’s also a fair amount of grain, recurring horizontal lines, and large colored pixels that appear. Nic Cramer shoots on film as much as possible, which would explain the grain, but the lines and pixels point to a shoddy transfer.

Music: The music is just a little on the loud side, and has the same extremely cheesy style as a lot of early nineties porn.

False Advertising: Ian Daniels and Davia are both listed on the cover despite their scene being cut. I can’t judge the cut too much since I never saw the original, but the lease Gen XXX could have done was to take their names off the cover so anybody who picks up this DVD for them won’t be disappointed.

There’s also an interview with Nic Cramer clearly listed on the cover that I didn’t find anywhere on the DVD. This one really confuses me since when I checked out other reviews of this DVD, they talked about the interview and what Mr. Cramer said in it. The other reviews also mentioned roughly three times the still photos I saw, which makes me think that Gen XXX has redone this DVD. Unlike most companies, which normally re-release DVDs to give them more features, a better transfer, etc., Gen XXX appears to be trying to move them backwards, which makes absolutely no sense. I’m deducting another half point for the false advertising, since I was really looking forward to this interview.

Menus: The main menu builds the extras and chapter menu right into it. It doesn’t look too bad, but it does look more than a little grainy.

The Feature: When a body is discovered in a dark alley, detectives Steve Hatcher and Sindee Coxx follow the trail to a high end cathouse owned by Melissa Hill. The leads they find there shows that things might not be as simple as they thought, with a trail goes much higher than they originally expected and involves some very important people. Things also get a little more complicated when Sindee and Steve find themselves drawn to the cathouse for more than just work.

Melissa Hill, a cute redhead, and Kim Kataine, a decent looking bleached brunette, start things off in an upscale house not knowing that detectives Steve Hatcher and Sindee Coxx have arrived are watching them through the window. There’s some nice chemistry, and a lot of smiles, right from the beginning which really helps the scene start off right. The girls munch muffs back and forth, as well as throwing in a few fingers. As they play, they gradually work up the intensity, but it’s a pretty average scene. Like many lesbian scenes, it also ends feeling like there’s much more to occur between the ladies that we’re forbidden to see. This is always one of my biggest all girl pet peeves and something that normally sets a good director apart from a great one for me. If they can bring a scene without a pop shot to a satisfying close, which this one doesn’t have, they definitely belong behind a camera shooting fuck flicks.

After going on a stake out and watching Melissa Hill put on a little solo show with a feather boa that she might have stolen from current governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura, Sindee Coxx and Steve Hatcher head back to the couch to get rid of some of their frustrations. Steve dives his tongue into Sindee’s snatch for a long warmup, only breaking to let her suck his cock a little in the middle. He moves on to fuck her missionary, reverse cowgirl, and doggie before decorating her tits. It’s a hot scene that pays a lot of attention to Sindee’s pleasure rather than just on getting Steve off. Sindee looks especially hot here, despite her implants which are fairly average in construction and a little large in size. It’s all cut together with Melissa’s solo scene, with is pretty average.

Congressman Jonathan Morgan goes to Melissa’s for a little poling. He wants a submissive group, and is given latex clad Anna Malle, who I don’t think even knows the meaning of the word, and Sid Deuce. The girls team up to pleasure Jonathan orally before Sid gets in the middle of a Jonathan - Anna sandwich with Anna following shortly after. Any dominance Jonathan wanted quickly disappears as the girls take charge and enjoy giving and receiving at the same time. It might help explain the wood problems he appeared to be having while fucking Anna. He comes back for Sid to help a little as Anna rides him both cowgirl styles and lets Sid move to both sit on his face and lick his balls as he fucks Anna. Sid also gets another highly energetic poke before the girls share a facial. It’s a very hot scene thanks to the driving dominance and energy of both women.

Once again, the main scene is mixed with another smaller scene. This time the smaller scene is Sindee Coxx watching with Kim Kataine. They give each other a little very light attention, but that’s about it. There’s no rug munching or even fast fingering, just a few caresses and kisses with the main focus of the scene being the girls watching Jonathan, Anna, and Sid while enjoying themselves. It provides a few great interludes to the main scene, and once again, really shows off Sindee.

Melissa Hill gives Steve Hatcher the gift that keeps on giving, namely Stephanie Swift. She guides Steve a little in licking Stephanie’s pussy as well as talking dirty about her before the girls reward Steve with a little oral action. Steve starts out fucking Stephanie missionary style while Melissa plays with herself, and then lets the girls trade so Melissa can ride his cock in the mandatory reverse cowgirl. Stephanie gets one last fuck as Steve works her from behind while she eats Melissa’s pussy before Steve decorates her tits. It’s another pretty hot scene, but the dark video really holds it back.

Finally, Steve Hatcher finds a video with crooked politician Randy West taking on Kim Kataine, who I’m guessing must be an intern. The age of the feature is obviously shown here since we know that Kim Kataine didn’t disappear after working for Randy if he was a Congressman, and didn’t end up on a string of talk shows while Presidential and press misdirection wasted taxpayer money. She starts out standing above Randy so he can eat her pussy as he lays back in his chair and then moves down to ride his cock. She also lets Randy pump her pussy from behind before taking his ball butter on her boobs. It’s a slightly above average scene that does a very good job for its short time length.

XXX is a great start to an adult film that could have been a lot better with a few fairly minor changes. The plot is fairly well developed, especially for a porno, and the cast does a great job of acting throughout it. It even ends with a bloody gunfight that fits in perfectly with the rest of the movie. The sex is also well done, and normally has very good chemistry. Sindee Coxx really shines throughout the entire movie, both sexually and for acting, and Melissa Hill isn’t too far behind her. Sadly, the video holds back the entire feature by being very dark through a very strong majority of the feature. It’s really too bad, since the feature is good enough to deserve much better. XXX is at least worth renting, but be prepared to not see everything.

Extras: The slide show includes about twenty very grainy framed photos. Some of them were so bad that I couldn’t even recognize the stars. Snippets are cut from Surveillance Sex, NYPP Blue, and Learning the Ropes. No, these aren’t trailers. They’re just a minute or two cut from the movie, and no, they don’t give much of a good or quality impression.

Raincoat Factor: Medium high

Overall: Currently, XXX can be found online for between $14 and $25. Although very well done in the non-sex portions and having above average sex, I wouldn’t recommend this one above the minimum and would still suggest renting it first. It’s almost a bare bones DVD (while claiming to have a director’s interview) and the technical aspects are extremely dark and leave a lot to be desired.

Note to Gen XXX: I’m not sure what happened here, but this is a confusing DVD. If you’re going to change around the features on a DVD, please change the cover as well. Also, if you’re going to edit a movie from its original form, please state sop on the cover. Many adult film fans want to know this before they purchase a DVD, and by trying to sneak things like this by, you stand a very good chance at alienating them.
