With This Ring Review

With This Ring is the story of 3 couples who live together and a couple of their friends. When Alice finds an engagement ring but doesn't know who it's for or from, the ladies begin speculating about who the lucky girl is. At lunch the following day Bailey spills the beans to a friend of the ladies, Stephanie, who plots ways for them to determine who is popping the question. Failing that, she brainstorms ways for the ladies to 'encourage' the gentlemen to propose.

That evening the gentlemen get together for “boys night” with their friend Max, played by Michael Vegas. Right off the bat it is clear Max is the woman hating, perennial frat boy type as he gives Chaz, played by Xander Corvus, a rough time about not wanting to get too drunk and blames Chaz's 'old lady'. Market guru Jack, played by Richie Calhoun, adds that the fellas have it good since they have the freedom of not being married but the guaranteed sex of being in a relationship. Concerned that one of the men will propose and doom the others to the same fate, Jack wants them to agree that no-one gets too serious with their lady. That's when Xavier pipes up to let them know that his girlfriend Kayla, played by Marie McCray, has already dropped a hint about how men should ask a woman's father for her hand in marriage. Chaz seems interested in learning that's the protocol.

After another lunch with the ladies and a little encouragement from Stephanie, new age aficionado Bailey, played by Jessie Andrews, opts to make a Devotion Potion to get Jack to propose. The couple chats over a glass of wine. Jack has done financial projections and determined the best course of action is to delay getting married anytime soon while Bailey presents her astrology progression chart which clearly shows that the stars will be in good alignment that summer for a successful marriage. The two agree to disagree. The following morning Jack wakes up with a really bad case of morning wood. It turns out that Bailey didn't quite follow the directions for the potion correctly and gave him a massive aphrodisiac. Unfortunately for Jack, he is still that way after work when the guys are together for another evening.

During this guy's night the men discuss the possibility that the women know they've made a pact to not get married. Chaz is empathizing that maybe the ladies have just waited long enough. Max responds by “...pending further review your (Chaz's) man license is revoked. Turn in your balls and your weapon.”. At the same time Stephanie is visiting with the ladies to check on their progress. Upon learning that the ladies have allowed the men to spend time with Max she has a fit calling him a “Walking testicle”, adding that “He's probably filling their head with bone headed, dick waving, misogynistic b.s.”.

Stephanie insists the ladies get the gentlemen on speaker phone immediately and confessthat they found the ring. None of the guys admits to having bought it. During the call Stephanie and Max get into a game of 'dirty dozens' flinging insults at each other. After a few moments of cruel and not particularly amusing jabs we learn the two had a brief fling in their college days.

The following day all four couples gather in the living room and the truth of who bought the ring is revealed.

All of the sex scenes are top notch. The sex scene between Ms. Starr and Mr. Vegas has a fun, frantic feel. While all of the other sex scenes are romantic and sensual. As a romance line release the sex is hard core but not quite as graphic as other adult entertainment films. Condoms are worn in all of the sex scenes and there is no anal sex in this release.

The acting is well done. Perhaps too well done in the case of the acidically delivered barbs between Mr. Vegas and Ms. Starr which took away from the otherwise enjoyable feel of the movie as a whole. In the rest of the film Ms. Starr is exceptionally good as the overly excitable Stephanie. Ms. Andrews beams as the bohemian Bailey. Mr. Corvus brings a certain warmth to the contemplative Chaz.

With This Ring was released in August of 2011 as part of the New Sensations Romance line. This film is still just as enjoyable as it was upon release. It can be rented or purchased as a video on demand. It can also be seen with an active membership through New Sensations.
