Wanna Be a Star? 4 Review

NOTE: This is an amateur video. Amateur and homemade movies don’t have the budget nor the resources of studio porn, and therefore rarely get close to the same quality technically. I’m rating this DVD on the same scale, but most homemade or amateur features would rarely make it above a 3 on the standard scale I use for studio porn for their technical aspects. The performers also aren’t normally the ‘glamour stars’ one expects from studio porn, and instead use people who look like somebody you might encounter in your day to day life. Finally, the camera work has a different feel, as it’s often shot from a tripod or with somebody who doesn’t have the technical training or experience of professional cameramen. That said, amateur and homemade features have a great charm to them, simple because the people in them are doing what they’re doing to have fun and because they enjoy it. All the things that separate them from studio porn contribute to that charm, I hope people will keep that in mind when checking out this review and not just look at the ratings as the ultimate word on this release.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio is pretty well balanced between the performers, but there are a few background noises and a little talk back and forth with the cameraman. The video is also okay. There’s a bit of grain throughout the movie and there’s a few soft focus and motion problems here and there throughout the movie. There’s also a little digital breakup and the lighting varies a fair amount through the movie. None of these things are out of the ordinary for an amateur movie, and in the end, it’s actually pretty average for an amateur movie.

Watermark Warning: There’s a watermark in the lower right corner of the screen. It says put so that it’s easy to put out of your mind, but I mention it because I know that some people absolutely hate them. The good news is that the good people over at Pixie’s Emporium are great about listening to their customers, and I think they’ve started to remove the watermarks from their movies. If you’re interested in this one and the watermark is a deciding factor, make sure to drop them an e-mail and I’m sure that they’ll let you know the status of it.

Menus: The main menu nicely combines a bit of the boxcover with a bit of the movie. The chapter menu nicely lets you choose a scene based on a few small clips of the scene and the name of the performers in the scene.

The Feature

Each installment of the Wanna Be a Star? series collects a few unrelated sex scenes. They’re all amateur scenes, and it’s not uncommon to have the performers talk with the cameraman as they work their magic on the screen.

Scene 1 - Mary Carey

Mary, listed here as Karrie, starts things out with a great interview where she talks about high school and sex before showing off her cheerleading skills. Kim and Marlboro finish the movie up just as strongly as it began, and even give one of the best facials I think I’ve seen in an amateur release.

So You Want To Be a Star? 4 is a fantastic amateur movie. Every scene is a winner and has plenty of the chemistry and energy that often seems to be missing from adult movies. I love the look of each of the ladies, with Cheryl being the most to my tastes and Mary looking so cute and young that I couldn’t help but really like her as well. The guys aren’t quite as good looking, but at the same time they also feel incredibly real and do a good job. Being an amateur movie there’s a few minor faults, such as the camera work and editing being a little weak, but at the same time it comes off as straightforward and done by somebody who’s enjoying themselves as well. If I’d have to make a complaint about So You Want To Be a Star? 4, it would have to be the length, as at barely an hour and a quarter it was definitely done way too soon. That said, the sex in that hour and a quarter worked better for me than that in many movies lasting well over two hours. So You Want To Be a Star? 4 is a great amateur movie that’s well worth checking out.

Currently, many of the DVDs from Pixie’s Emporium can be found online for around $13. Although the movie’s a bit on the short side and there isn’t much for extras, this one’s well worth the money. The sex is great and definitely drove the movie. This is a great movie on a pretty average amateur DVD.

Note to Pixie’s Emporium: With how good the sex was in this one, I really hated to penalize it. Please watch your claims in the future so I don’t have to!
