The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Digital Playground has been pretty limited with their virtual sex titles, but done well within those limitations. I’m expecting a nicely done but limited virtual sex DVD.

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting really well done virtual sex. I realize that this is an older virtual sex title, but it’s also one of the most limited I’ve ever seen.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is clear, nicely balanced, and free of background noises. The video is nicely done and well lit. There’s a hint of pixelation, but that’s it for video problems.

Music: None

Disc Complaints: You’re subjected to a commercial for Digital Playground that you can’t skip past or even scan through. This always ticks me off, and is something I hoped Digital Playground had left in the dust.

Menus: The menus have kept with the usual format for this series. The main menu features Nikki standing and waiting while you make your choice on the menu below to start with. The sex selection menu then works itself around the edges of the screen with icons that are, to quote Mike Myers, friggin’ huge!

The Feature

Buxom Blonde Nikki Tyler has been turning heads for years. Whether it was as a partner with Jenna Jameson on the feature dance circuit or headlining movies when she was under contract for Vivid, Nikki had a following. It makes her a very nice choice for Digital Playground’s Virtual Sex With series.

Sexually, Nikki only gives you a few choices to work her over with. For foreplay, you can work on her pussy with your fingers, a dildo, or your tongue. She’ll also suck your cock or let you fuck her pussy missionary, doggie, or in either cowgirl. Nikki will even let you poke her ass cowgirl style. Nikki does a pretty good job through it all. She alters her vocals pretty well between the innocent and nasty moods and nicely works in a little anal play during the nasty foreplay. There are times where she doesn’t show a lot of difference, but for the most party Nikki’s nicely consistent at being both innocent and nasty. The biggest problem through all of it is the anal, since Nikki takes it cowgirl style. This means you get to choose whether you want to watch her face or the penetration, which always ticks me off.

You also have the option of two angles to watch Nikki in. I mostly spot checked these, but every time I looked it was a true multiple angle. It’s normally a side view from about Nikki’s tits up, but for the cowgirl positions it lets you see the penetration rather than Nikki’s face. I like that there are true multiple angles here, but for the most part they seemed like a waste.

Pop shots in virtual sex releases have always drawn a lot of attention, and Virtual Sex with Nikki Tyler shows why. To start with, the pop shots are shared between the moods, which give them a very odd feeling if you’re watching it in “innocent” mode. It also has perhaps the worst animated pops I’ve ever seen. These aren’t even Roger Rabbit or Busta Nut quality animated shots. They look like the water steam when you squeeze the sprayer on a hose halfway down, and the first time I saw it I had a hard time not laughing at it. That said, there are a couple real pop shots. The first pop shot is during the blowjob, and that one Nikki takes as a nice facial. The second pop shot is for the anal, which Nikki takes as a beautiful anal cream pie that redeemed much of the limited aspect of the release for me. The rest of the pop shots aren’t bad, they’re much worse than that.

Digital Playground’s virtual interface is pretty good, but very big. Yes, it’s fairly easy to tell what’s what as the left side has pictures for each sex act, while the right side of the screen lets you change moods, move between the sex, foreplay, and oral action, and have somebody orgasm. The selections take effect quickly whenever selected. There are a few problems, however. First, the choices are freaking huge! Almost all of them seem like they could be reduced to half the size and still work very well. The sex selections also aren’t the easiest to make out. Looking through them if I would want Nikki to ride me reverse cowgirl style, I’m really not sure which icon I’d pick. Finally, the orgasm mechanism doesn’t go back to the original selection. Once you decide that one of you should have an orgasm, you’re going to keep watching it until you tell it to do something else. This is the only time I think a virtual release should do something without being told.

There’s also the looping, which was a very common problem with early virtual sex releases. The main sex act loops normally lasts around one minutes, although some are as short as a forty two seconds, while the orgasm sequences last between about fifteen and forty five seconds. Each segment always returns to the start of the segment, so Nikki often goes from being way into the sex act to just getting warmed up. This is a problem that’s been solved in most virtual releases, but it gives the segments a bit of an odd feel if you just want to watch Nikki in a specific position. Digital Playground’s virtual mechanism is pretty well done, but the short loops make the action seem even more limited than normal.

Virtual Sex with Nikki Tyler is a very basic virtual sex release. I know this was one of Digital Playground’s earliest virtual sex releases, and it really shows. Nikki does a nice job, but the segments are so short that they never have a chance to built up before they stop to restart. Although Nikki does a very nice job with the real pops, the animated pops are so laughable that it’s easy to see why some people never want to hear about an animated pop even after they need Viagra to so much as think about sex. Virtual Sex with Nikki Tyler was probably a pretty good virtual sex release at the time it came out, but now it looks about as advanced as an ironclad battleship.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, most of the Virtual Sex With... series can be found online for between about $20 and $35 with many stores offering it for under $25. Rent this one first even if you’re a fan of Nikki. It isn’t bad, but it’s so limited compared to most of the current virtual sex releases that there’s no way that I can justify the big bucks.

Note to Digital Playground: Your Virtual Sex titles have come so far from this that it might be worth considering dropping the price on your first few. They offer a lot less than the later releases and it might help to draw a few more people in.
