Up and Cummers 78 Review

Now fast approaching its 100th volume, UP AND CUMMERS is a generally good series which often approaches greatness so long as you like the featured pro-amateurs appearing in any particular feature. But among the standout volumes in the series (like Leena's appearance in #12 and Jenna Jameson's in #10 and 11), the viewer sometimes has to endure the occasional clunker...which brings me to this DVD under review...

The seventy-eighth edition of Randy West's UP AND CUMMERS series is saved at the very last minute (actually, last 40 minutes) by a Katie Gold/Shay Sweet/Ian Daniels/Randy West foursome which is full of hot and heavy sex, as well as fairly creatively directed and photographed. However, this scene is described as an extension "to finish the boy-girl scene from UP AND CUMMERS #44" which puzzles me (especially since I have not seen that volume) and begs the question, if this is a "finished" scene, then what appeared in #44? An incomplete edit? A tease? I guess it's tricks like these which naturally force the viewer to buy past editions of this series, but it sure feels like a cheat to me.

This title also advertises an appearance by Wildcat (also known as Cheyenne Silver) who first made her debut in UP AND CUMMERS #71. What is not revealed on the boxcover (which has stills taken from #71) is that her re-appearance here is an afterthought to her original scene, where she has just gotten out of the shower to give Mr. West an enthusiastic blowjob. Again, I question why we get this little segment in #78 when it should have appeared in #71, and the only answer is to make Wildcat fans and completists buy another release with her in it. Certainly, this practice is not unusual with Mr. West, as he had unnecessarily "split-up" a threesome with two twins for volumes #49 and #50, which would drive any viewer nuts knowing that discs had to be changed to see the scene in its entirety, but it sure as hell pisses me off. It cheapens his products to resort to baiting sales tactics like these, and the consumer has a right to complain. Still, Wildcat is naturally sexy enough for me to forgive Randy's devious marketing tools, but he appears to lack the wherewithal of finishing the deed with Ms. Silver, since halfway into a blowjob, he asks that the camera be turned off so that he could fuck her privately (yeah, right...I bet we see this "private scene" in a later volume).

In any event, newbie Carrla opens the movie in an uninspiring suck and fuck which is not helped one bit by her questionable looks (which truth be told, is a matter of taste, but the garish makeup doesn't flatter her). After the camera takes a long loving look at her boots leading up to her pants covered legs (which isn't a sexy look in the least bit), Randy rambles on and on with her before getting into the dirty deed. Oftentimes it is sort of a nice change of pace to see an average looking girl before the camera, but Carrla really doesn't do anything for me. The problem is, of course, that since every individual's scene in these videos go on and on forever (Carrla's scene lasted almost 40 minutes), the viewer is forced to skip a lot of time on the disc to get to the next scene. The next scene is an improvement when lovely dark- haired and shapely Spaniard Carmen joins Old Man West and Frenchman Oliver Sanchez for an above- average threesome. Both guys get their shot at her, and she seems more than ready to take their sexual challenge (in between men, she constantly rubs her pussy in a flurry of self pleasure). In the end, Randy even manages to squirt a larger than usual volume of splooge directly into her mouth, which she laps up and smears all over her lips with his cocks. This is a pretty damn good scene which is high on the repeat/replay factor.

Extras are only average: we get a photo gallery in which is only as appealing as the women in the movie. The series of trailers is a bit more updated than past volumes of the series, but they are mostly just a short collection of clips from other videos in "Randy's Theater" as opposed to creatively assembled previews. The audio is fairly clear, although during the interviews, it is almost impossible to hear anything else other than Randy's booming voice. The video is a good transfer of the original source, which suffers from drop-outs, washed out colors and other anomalies found in cheap videotape.

If you have your choice between this edition of UP AND CUMMERS, and other volumes at random, take your chances on another video.
