Underworld (Wicked Pictures) Review

Brad Armstrong's Underworld is an amazing feature that succeeds on all levels. The story moves at a very nice pace, and pairs fantastically well with the art direction. Armstrong's visuals here as quite simply a feast for the eyes, but unlike so many other artistic adult features, here everything works together rather than having the art direction fight with the sex. The sex has very nice chemistry and is just as well captured. I love how it covers virtually every base here, and the only thing missing is a cream pie (which we'll never see as long as Wicked is a 100% condom company and I don't expect that to change any time soon) or a black guy. You get a little color from Asa and Adrianna, but I know that most people don't consider sex with them “interracial” (or perhaps I should say interracial enough). The sex nicely goes from soft and romantic to hard anal with some nice group scenes and a solid double penetration for jessica mixed in. The entire cast does a great job with the sex, and the only complaint I can really have about the movie is in jessica's scene with Asphyxia and Toni. Here the editing jumping between the girls fucking Toni in different positions really didn't work for me and made the scene feel very sloppy. With how perfect everything else was about the movie I can't help but think that the scene was edited like this for a reason, but it quite simply didn't work for me. That, however, wasn't enough to sour me on the movie, as I loved everything else about it, and especially the creativity and symbolism that Armstrong brought through the movie as jessica made her journey through the underworld. Underworld is an amazing adult film, and is more than deserving of all the accolades and attention it received through the award season.

The Extras:
The photo gallery lasts a little under five minutes, and if that's not enough eye candy for you there's also a Women of the Underworld featurette lasting about fifteen minutes showing the ladies posing for stills. There's also multiple behind the scenes featurettes, trailers, and commercials.

The Making of Underworld featurette lasts a little over twenty eight minutes. Brad Armstrong introduces the featurette and what he plans to cover. He discusses some of the locations and shows off the hospital before showing off some of the wardrobe as he searches for costumes. You get plenty of comments from the cast as well as David Lord as he helps with the sets. It moves along at a very nice pace and covers plenty of ground in the making of this epic movie. This is a nice addition to the overall package.

The Sex in the Underworld featurette lasts about thirty minutes. Armstrong starts out chatting about how some of the costumes can interfere with the sex as well as some other challenges shooting it. The featurette continues on just showing the sex scenes being shot without any other comments. On the plus side, it does nicely identify all of the players as they play. This is an okay featurette that didn't add too much to the overall package for me.

A nine and a half minute featurette is devoted to creating the characters of Underworld. Brad Armstrong starts out talking about the importance of wardrobe in major movies such as this. He continues to talk about the different outfits for each character and what he was going for with much of it being voiceovers as the girls are being made up, posing for stills, and acting in the movie. This is a very nice featurette that adds quite a bit to the overall release. Armstrong does a great job narrating the featurette and it flows at a very nice pace.

Meet the Women of Underworld lasts a little under twelve minutes. After a little introduction from Brad, the camera moves around the set bringing together interviews with some of the girls along with shots of the movie being shot. jessica starts things out talking about her role, outfits, and what's going on before Adrianna talks about what's happening with her. There's a little eye candy with Cameron before jessica returns to introduce a bit more of what's going on. Claudia talks about being flown in for the production and being an aerial performer before Capri gets her chance to talk about her role. Presley and Asphyxia also chat about their roles and excitement. jessica returns to chat about her scene with Asphyxia and Toni to wrap things up. This is a nice behind the scenes featurette. It moves at a nice pace and you get a nice mix of eye candy and personality. This is a good addition to the overall release.
