Initial Expectations: Although I haven't heard of Vonn Fink before, TeraVision has put some very nice effort into what I've seen of their earlier releases and gives me a bit of hope for this one.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The movie is on the quiet side, but that's just the style of the movie more than a fault in the audio. The video is presented in the full frame format, and looks pretty good. It's very clear and has some good use of lighting. There's some artistic effects for the movie, which often have a neutral effect but sometimes does hold the action back.

Music: There's some hard music to start and end each scene, but that's it. Since the vocals are kept to a minimum, the music never really covers it up.

Menus: The main menu does a decent job blending a few clips of the movie with stills of the girls. The chapter menu shows some nice care, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene along with the name of the girl(s) in each scene.

The Feature

Ultra//Violett goes with style rather than any kind of plot. The entire movie revolves around colors, with each scene getting its own color to work around. Sometimes the color takes on a subtle feel for the scene while other times it gets completely in your face.

Scene 1 – Selina Dragon and Alec Knight

White starts things out, with Selina dressed in it with a dress, long gloves, and porno shoes. She lays back on a large white ottoman and lightly rubs her pussy before Alec starts stroking his cock next to her in a white shirt and brown jeans which are around his ankles. The problem for me was that the camera work and editing were all too noticeable. There were no position changes, and the camera seemed unable to move smoothly. Instead it jerked from position to position both for the camera angles and the editing. Although the scene has a nicely artistic eye behind it and some good chemistry in front of it, the camera work and editing felt inexperienced and often left me not caring too much about the scene because of it.

Scene 2 – Franchezca Valentina, and Nautica Thorn

After a bluish tinted, Katerina shows plenty of gymnastic skill swinging around from the ceiling, things move to Green and a basement-like location where Franchezca touches herself wearing a pair of purple panties and a pink collar. Scene 3 – Brooke Banner, Lielani, Spyder Jonez, and a guy

The industrial basement location sticks around for Red, as tattooed dirty blonde Brooke touches herself. This scene just didn't do it for me. To start with, the red tint was over the top and interfered with the action for me. The camera work and editing fell between where it was for the first two scenes, and came off a bit jerky while being helped out by the limited space. As for the sex, that didn't do much for me either. It started with Brooke's leaving in the middle of the scene to be replaced later on, which gave the feeling like Brooke just couldn't do her job right and that her segment should have been included as a bonus or deleted scene. It continued through the action, which was way too limited for my tastes having only cocksucking and one sexual position for a scene that lasted over fifteen minutes. This scene just didn't do it for me.

Scene 4 – Leah Jaye and a guy

Katerina returns for a little more ceiling gymnastics before things move on with Purple and Leah diddling herself while sitting on a toilet in a fishnet outfit. Scene 5 – Faith Leon and Marcos Leon

Blue finishes things up with a very light tint as Faith starts the final scene out in a black dress and shoes sitting on the same ottoman that began the movie. Marcos disappears for her to put on a bit more of a show before reappearing in a blue shirt and suit pants stroking his cock and letting her suck it. This is an above average scene. I love Faith's very natural look, and seeing her booty get some nice slaps is always a treat. The even bigger treat is seeing her take a cock up it, which she does pretty well while showing some occasional discomfort. The chemistry here is on the low side, which is sadly all too normal for real porn couples, but the anal does help the scene stand out from the rest. This is an okay scene and a decent one to end the movie with.

Ultra//Violett colored me unimpressed. It has a touch of an alt-porn feel to it, which should be no surprise as jackthezipper shared camera work duties with Vonn Fink. I'll readily admit that alt-porn doesn't do a lot for me, and because of that maybe I'm not the right person to be checking this one out. That said, the style of Ultra//Violett doesn't really fall in either the alt-porn or the traditional porn camp from the little I've seen of alt-porn. It has the choppy camera work with plenty of motion that normally loses me for alt-porn, but the degree of that feeling varies throughout the entire movie. While some scenes seem almost professional in their style, other scenes get into it pretty heavy. The color theme works okay through it, but is far from consistent with some scenes having just a slight hint of their color (such as the blue scene that barely shows a tint with the exception of Marcos's shirt) while others are completely in your face with it (such as the red scene). This left an inconsistent feeling which part of me liked due to it helping the scenes stand apart from each other while more of me disliked it because it seemed like Vonn Fink wasn't exactly sure where he was going with things. For those reasons I can see alt-porn fans finding as much fault with Ultra//Violett as many mainstream fans. That said, there is one group that might find Ultra//Violett tempting, and that's people who are curious about alt-porn but just haven't wanted to jump in. With it's alt-porn-lite feel, Ultra//Violett is a great place for people who are curious about alt-porn but who don't want to jump all the way into it to try it out. As for scenes, the only one that really stood out to me was Nautica Thorn and Franchezca Valentina's sapphic romp, which was captured well with some good chemistry. Maybe it's because I've never seen the attraction to alt-porn, but Ultra//Violett just didn't do much for me.

Robert Sanchez goes behind the camera for the behind the scenes featurette, which lasts four and three quarter minutes. Brooke starts out talking about plenty of waiting (but having a great time) to shoot her scene as well as not knowing her partner's name either. Leah has a few words with the camera as the guy gives himself a hand before Franchezca shows off a bit and talks about how excited she is for her scene. Selina talks about not knowing much about her scene other than the guy before Lielani has a couple minor words. There's also a few shots of the girls posing for their stills. This is an okay little featurette. It's very quick and although it does do a very nice job moving around to try to include all the girls, they each have such a short time with the camera that it doesn't really add a lot. It's nice to see Vonn Fink and TeraVision putting enough care into their DVDs to include a little behind the scenes featurette, but it doesn't add too much.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of TeraVision's DVDs can be found online for between about $19 and $25 with several stores offering them for about $20. Rent this one first, as I'm not a really good judge of alt porn. That said, this seems light enough that it might not due much for alt porn fans while heavy enough to give those curious a taste of alt porn. The technical aspects are okay, and there's a little effort put into the extras. This is an okay DVD even if the movie's style didn't do much for me.

Note to TeraVision: It's great you let the viewer know who the girls are in each scene. It would be even nicer if you get the guys as well. Also, although it's very nice to see you supporting the widescreen format, I hope you take your support to the anamorphic level that it deserves.
