What I Disliked:
Xin experimented with some editing techniques here that are questionable. Occasionally, to transition from one shot to another, a split-screen and then wipe was employed and in the case of the pop shot for Lauren Phoenix's scene, there were a bunch of MTV-style jump cuts to show the pop from various different angles and in slow motion. That didn't work for me. Also, Xin's "style" if you can call it that, is too static and stationary for me at times. Focusing on one angle or one position for too long can make the home viewer antsy (read: bored) and begin reaching for the fast-forward button. If Bryan could find a way to somehow employ a method or way to stylistically set himself apart from his peers and mix it up just a tad, he would certainly be ahead of the game. But I guess those things come in time and with more experience.
Overall:
The thing that stood out most for me here is that Bryan Xin knows his shit. He's not a guy out here just shooting who the fans think are good or who he's heard or read is hot but he's casting from the perspective of being a knowledgeable fan himself and making the movies he would want to see.
