The Movie

Trouser Bar is a gay short movie that was written by the late John Gielgud — who himself appeared in the 1980 adult film Caligula — in the 1970s for the legendary gay adult film director Peter de Rome. Peter de Rome never made the movie before his passing and the producer David McGillivray found the screenplay amongst Gielgud's belongings. He attached prominent adult movie maker Kristen Bjorn to the project only to have the movie sit in legal limbo after production due to a lawsuit by The John Gielgud Charitable Trust. The movie has now cleared legal limbo and is available with Gielgud credited as A Gentleman.

As to why The John Gielgud Charitable Trust was so against the short movie, this reviewer is unsure because Trouser Bar is a beautifully made erotic short movie. Viewers should not confuse erotic with hardcore because Trouser Bar is a softcore movie. However, the short movie packs more eroticism than many hardcore movies this reviewer has seen and this reviewer is straight. The director Kristen Bjorn, who is known for his hardcore gay films, and cinematographer Sam Hardy have gone an amazing job of making a steamy movie without showing any true nudity or graphic sex.

Set in 1976, Trouser Bar shows the goings on at a garment store where the store employees and customers are turned on by corduroy and leather while passers-by on the street stop to watch the erotic shenanigans going on inside. Trouser Bar doesn't have any lines of dialog within the short movie, so the entire story is told by the visuals that are presented to the viewer. The main cast does an excellent job with their roles and since this was shot in London, viewers may note some cameos by notable British personalities.

The set for Trouser Bar is excellent and certainly conveys the feeling of the 1970s. Trouser Bar is an all around great erotic short movie that is highly recommended for all viewers. There is something here that should please everyone.

Trouser Bar is presented with a Stereo audio track. Since Trouser Bar doesn't contain any dialog, there are no concerns over the dialog being discernible. The music sounds beautiful throughout Trouser Bar and has a great dynamic range.
