The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Tristan hooking up with Vivid for an instructional line of releases seems like a perfect match. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Initial Reaction: It's a nicely done movie and a DVD that shows a lot of effort.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good. The audio is normally clear, but there are a few background noises and the voiceovers sometimes cut in at a level slightly different from the other people talking which makes them a bit more noticeable. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen, and looks pretty good. There's some areas which are bleached out a little with natural light, as well a look that's overly soft to the point of looking slightly sloppy. The camera work is smooth, but it could have been cleaned up quite a bit. The technical aspects are easily the weakest part of this release.

Music: There's a little light music which rests very quietly in the background and helps out the entire movie.

Menus: The main menu is nicely done and lays out all of the choices and extras on one screen with a very complete and friendly look. It even lets you watch the scenes with or without instruction while listing the players in it.

The Feature

Bestselling sex author and lecturer Tristan Taormino has joined with Vivid here to create an instructional release covering oral sex focusing on women. After a little workshop with Justine Joli it moves on with two demonstrations with adult film stars Kelly and Richard Kline and Cindy Crawford with Jack Lawrence.

Scene 1 – Ariel X., Justine Joli, and a crowd

Redhead Justine starts out with a diagram of the vagina talking about the different parts before bringing out brunette Ariel for a live demonstration. They move on demonstrating several different positions while briefly describing some of the advantages and disadvantages of each position. She moves on to demonstrate several different techniques, and talks about the importance of taking one's time as well as the importance of consistency in what you're doing. Justine moves on from demonstrating with her tongue and fingers to working in a few toys. As Justine works Ariel over, the audience occasionally interrupts with a question.

This is a nice opening scene. The anatomy discussion is handled nicely, and doing it both on paper and with a real subject was a nice blend of clinical and real world action. There's nice chemistry as Justine works Ariel over orally, and Justine does a very nice job of getting in there to pleasure her well as well as backing off and demonstrating with her fingers so you can see just what she's doing and why. This is a nice scene that mixes instruction and pleasure very well.

Scene 2 – Kelly Kline and Richard Kline

Kelly starts out describing how long they've known each other, communicating with each other about sex over time, and what they like sexually before moving on with the demonstration. Richard licks around her panties before stripping them off to lick around her panties. They move on with a couple sixty-nine positions as well as the woman on top, or sitting on the guy's face. Afterwards they talk a little more about their oral play, including things like their favorite positions and giving a few more tips.

This is another very nice scene. Kelly and Richard almost always seem to have great chemistry, and it comes across very well here. I love how “normal” they look, as opposed to some porn stars, and how friendly they make the action. It's nicely captured with plenty of tips, and their comments at the end only help it out more. This is another very nice instructional scene that also brings in some nice heat.

Scene 3 – Cindy Crawford and Jack Lawrence

Jack starts out talking about why he loves pussy eating and gives a few tips while Cindy talks about what she likes guys to do to her. The scene cuts to Cindy coming out of a bath so Jack can shave her before he works his way around her pussy teasing her orally. He finally moves in to tongue Cindy's clit, and mixes in a little finger play and rimming as Cindy lies on her back and side as well as getting on all fours for him. Finally they end with Cindy looking very satisfied before they chat about it a little more.

This is another very nice scene. I really like how this scene mixed in a little rimming and shaving, and it did a nice job covering the hygiene topics as well. Cindy and Jack have nice chemistry as he works on her, and the scene moves along at a nice pace with the tips nicely working into the scene to point different details out. This seems like a very good scene to end the movie with.

Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Oral Sex 1: Cunnilingus is a nicely done instructional release. It progresses nicely from anatomy to lessons on different methods very nicely, and I really like how it branched out a bit into shaving and rimming. There's also a very nice balance between sex and talking, with each of the couples talking about their sexual experiences and thoughts on the matter both before and after their demonstration. The couples also help the feature by coming off very naturally. Yes, Cindy looks like a pretty stereotypical porn chick with all her tattoos and bottle blonde hair, but she also puts out an excitement about sex that's hard not to like and be drawn to. Kelly and Richard, on the other hand, come off looking completely like the couple down the street, and make their segment extremely easy to relate to because of it. If there's a complaint about Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Oral Sex 1: Cunnilingus, it's on the technical side more than anything. The pop up tips are fun, but there were several times when the style of the feature seemed a little sloppy with things like the video looking washed out and the audio not being balanced too well. That said, those are fairly minor complaints, and for the subject Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Oral Sex 1: Cunnilingus does a very nice job. If you're interested in eating better box, Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Oral Sex 1: Cunnilingus is well worth checking out.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Anal Sex, Chemistry, and Chemistry 2. There's also a bonus scene, featurettes, and commercials.

Playing with Toys lasts six and a quarter minutes. Richard starts out lubing up a glass dildo that he starts working Kelly over with as she lies back on a bed. He moves on to use a magic wand ball vibe on her to give her an orgasm before coming up to kiss her. This is a very nice little bonus segment.

The safe sex featurette lasts about two and a half minutes. Tristan talks about safe oral sex with Cindy and Jack demonstrating how to use a dental dam. The featurette moves on to more playful methods of safe oral sex including fun with plastic wrap and making your own tongue condom. I'll admit that I was worried about this featurette going into it, but I have to admit that it's very likable and a featurette that's worth checking out.

Bonus Scene – Ariel X. and Justine Joli

Redhead Justine and brunette Ariel head right to the couch where they kiss as they get Justine out of her clothes. Ariel's follow immediately after so Justine can dive in to munch her muff. Justine pulls out a purple toy to work on Ariel with next before moving around to sixty-nine her. The girls each take a turn being on top as they sixty-nine, but Ariel never lets the toy out of her cunt until she starts working on Justine with a glass vibe as Justine sits on the top of the couch. This is a very nice scene. There's great chemistry between the girls as well as a very playful feeling. For a scene lasting almost twenty minutes the action feels a touch limited, but with the chemistry and how well it's captured I was nicely pleased by it.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of the Vivid Ed DVDs can be found online for between about $17 and $30 with most stores offering them for around $23. If you're interested in the subject, this one should be well worth the money. The subject is covered very well and nicely builds on itself as it goes. The technical aspects barely make it past the average mark due to the overly soft video, but there's some very nice effort put into the extras. If you want to please your lady better orally, this is a great DVD to check out.
