Initial Expectations: I've been really liking a lot of what I've seen from Penthouse lately, and Guy Capo has been turning out some really nice couples work for them. I'm looking forward to this one.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I didn't notice any background noises. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and looks very nice. It's sometimes a bit artistic with some color saturation and black and white footage mixed in, but it rarely interferes with the action.

Music: The music has a funky late seventies, early eighties vibe to it that worked very well for the style of the movie. It had a nice balance with the rest of the audio and helped to sex things up nicely.

Menus: The main menu works through some minor animation before settling in on the cover picture with a clip from the movie for a fairly generic first impression. The chapter menu shows a bit of effort and lets you choose a scene based on a clip from each scene along with the name(s) of the girl(s) in it.

The Feature

If you're looking to swing in the late 80s, Steven St. Croix's club Traderz is the place to be. It has, however, attracted the attention of the IRS. Steven might have plenty of connections around town, but the government isn't above lying and cheating to get what they want even when there aren't things like victims involved.

This is a pretty good scene. It's normally hard for me to get into scenes that start in the middle of the action as this one did, and that's just the case here. At the same time there's something that seemed to be missing from the scene, which normally happens when I watch a scene that starts in the middle like this. This is a pretty good scene, but it still left me wanting a bit more.

Brunette Rachel joins couple Steven and Rayveness is celebrating freedom and independence with their own fireworks in Steven's office during the fourth of July. In a scene like this I always like to see a little interaction between the girls as well as the guy, and having them take turns fucking Steven and playing with themselves while watching him fuck the other just didn't work the best for me. This is a nice scene, but it missed the spark to take it beyond that.

When Steven can't perform in front of the group, he runs to the bedroom with hot dark haired Roxy chasing after him. This is a very hot scene and easily my favorite in the movie.

It focuses more on the style than the substance, and although the style is nicely done it just wasn't enough to draw me in too far. This is an okay scene.

Traderz is a good little adult movie that never seems like it's aiming too high in any way, but also works because it knows its limits and strengths. As usual with Guy Capo it's heavy on the style and light on the substance, but they work together with just enough substance to make it an interesting little movie that held my interest in the story sequences as well as the sex. Roxy DeVille and Chris Cannon easily turned out the hottest scene in the movie, but most of the action comes in above the average mark with only Rayveness and Prinzzess Sahara's scene really leaving me disappointed. Traderz is a pretty good little light feature.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for The Footman, The Perfect Fantasy, Spiked Heels, Netchixxx, Identity, and Bring Me the Head of Shawna Lenee. The photo gallery lasts almost three minutes with about seven seconds per okay looking framed photo. There's also a bonus scene with an accompanying photo gallery and internet information.

The bonus scene comes from Wicked Wives: A Voyeur's Diary. The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Penthouse DVDs can be found online for between about $17 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $20. Aim low on this one. It's far from a bad movie, but even with nicely done technical aspects the movie only lasts an hour and a half and there's just a bonus scene to help out in the extras. That just doesn't seem like enough to justify the price tag for me.

Note to Penthouse: You're putting out some nice couples movies, but try to compare what you're putting out to some of what your competition is. Either try to offer a little more on your DVDs to justify a higher end price tag or try to drop your price tag a little so it can reflect some of what's being offered.
