The First Word: Having reviewed Titman's Pool Party 2 and really liked it, I went ahead and picked up a copy of the first volume.  While it's okay (and good if you like a lot of tease and large girl-girl orgies), it's not as good as the second volume.

What's It About?:  Basically, Metro got a whole bunch of porn stars together at someone's estate in the hills of Chatsworth, California (in the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles, for those who don't know) to fuck in a gonzo.  It's something of a cross between a backyard pool party, celebrity event, and porn shoot.  It's been done many times before, but this is the biggest one I can remember seeing that doesn't include the words "World's Biggest" in the title (and that's a good thing!).  And of course there are plenty of cameras to record the event for posterity.

The video opens with the girls opening up new packages of dildos to be used in the festivities.  It's a fun atmosphere as they joke about the selection of sex toys.  We also see that there's one of those big event tents set up on the lawn, with these neon-colored plastic inflatable beds set up underneath, which will come into play in the first "scene."  There are two interviews, one with one of my favorite girls, Vanity, as well as about 15 minutes of assorted non-sex footage.

It seems like there's some sort of schedule of events, just like you would find at a golf tournament or convention since all of the women gather first to take a group photo then assemble under the tent for a lesbian orgy.  Beginning with those dildos they picked out earlier, they work each other over.  The lube flows liberally, and there are "lube boys" who make themselves useful by toting bottles of the stuff.  There are plenty of men gathered around the tent, but they just stand around and comment on the action.  It reminds me of a bunch of guys standing around talking about something routine.  But I guess for a lot of them, the sight of about 20 slicked-up women shoving silicone up each other's vaginas is pretty routine.  The last half of this 30-minute scene is dedicated to pussy eating as, if by cue, they all transition from the dildos to tongues.  In the tradition of this type of video, the quality is similar to vacation footage shot on a good camcorder -- the lighting at times is dark (shooting under a tent with sunny skies and no lights tends to result in silhouetted figures).  There's no music, so the audio is similar to what you might hear in a crowded restaurant.  Well, except for the porn moaning...

Mark Davis is the lucky guy who goes with five girls (Dee, Jill Kelly, Melanie Stone, Tye, and someone who I can't identify for the life of me, even after watching the scene a couple of times) up to a gazebo on the hill and does his best to keep them occupied.  As mini-reverse gangbangs go, it's not bad, but it's really hard to have a good sex scene with that much going on.

Meanwhile, the crowd is enjoying a live band, relaxing in the pool, and watching some sexy dancing.  It has a spring break atmosphere to the party, although it's a lot more subdued (probably because there's not a lot of alcohol around -- after all, we've got a few "old enough to fuck on camera but not to drink" girls here (although it's not like we've never seen a clearly underage hottie taking a swig of Bud in a video before).

Alex "The Titman" Sanders goes inside to get it on with Houston and Phyllisha Anne in the next scene.  I'll be kind and just say that these three are not my favorite porn stars, and if I didn't have to write a review on this scene, I probably would have skipped it for greener pastures.  Just the thought of Houston having sex with many dozen strangers moves a different type of bodily fluid in me (and also might explain her huge, loose pussy lips).  Phyllisha is just too damn skinny, and the butt zits don't add to her appeal.   Nothing that noteworthy about the scene except for the shared blowjob and better than average facial that Alex paints, but unfortunately the camera doesn't linger long enough to survey the damage.

The two hours (video running time) of carnival carnality ends with two separate scenes spliced together, featuring the talents of Pat Myne (paired with Alexandra Nice) and Brandon Irons (with Jessica Jewel and Elle Devine).  It's probably the best part of the video, especially with the great late afternoon lighting.   But it doesn't match up to the M-F action in the second installment (which I think was filmed on the same day).

What I liked: Just as with Titman's Pool Party 2, I liked the honest feel that this manufactured orgy has.  No "oh, look, we just happen to have thirty people at a pool party and they like each other so much that they decide to fuck!"  On the other hand, though, I don't get the feeling that they're all "performing" for this video -- it retains a bit of spontaneity that I like to see in gonzo or all-sex videos.  It's also nice that there's some interesting softcore stuff rather than just sex, sex, sex.  Sure, sex is why you buy, but some funny bits on top of the sex is a nice value-add.

What I didn't like: This volume doesn't have the action, editing, or fun that the second one does.  I was expecting more of the same from TPP 2, but instead I got something more like one of Seymore Butts' pool party tapes -- okay but without much replay value.  At least we were spared from enduring Ron Jeremy in this one, but we get Houston as the "I could have done without seeing that in the video" cameo.  I guess if I had to sum it up in a simple example, I'd say that it was like watching TPP2 but having the picture slightly out of focus -- not that bad but definitely not how I wanted to see it.

DVD Extras: Well, there's 30 trailers on the flip side of this disc.  A couple of years ago, that would have gotten a few additional stars in the extras category, but nowadays my standards are higher and a bunch of trailers with not much else doesn't cut it anymore.

A/V Quality: The video and audio quality is pretty much the same as the second volume (which make sense since they were filmed at the same time with the same equipment).  Aside from some minor lighting problems, the video is pretty solid, and the audio is suprisingly good considering the incredible amount of ambient noise from the party guests and the hills of Chatsworth. 

The Last Word: If you haven't already seen Titman's Pool Party 2, I'd suggest that you skip this one and grab the second part.  You're not going to be missing anything since it's pretty much a standalone video, and I think the sex is hotter in the second volume.  However, if a large girl-girl orgy is your thing, or if you like some of the featured stars, then you'll probably want to give this part a look.  Either way, considering that this DVD is considered a "budget" disc and frequently on sale, you probably won't feel cheated even if you do buy it.
