The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Penthouse's movies have been a bit hit or miss for me. I'm not quite sure what to expect here.

Initial Reaction: It's okay, but the audio really held the movie back.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting high production values, very little plot, and couples friendly action

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting sex that isn't afraid to get a little nasty

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects almost make it to the average level. The audio is clear, but normally dubbed in. When the audio isn't dubbed in, however, it rarely seems to synch with the video and is the weakest part of the technical aspects. The video is smooth and nicely presented in anamorphic widescreen. It varies very well with full color, black and white, and sepia tones depending on the scene, and shows some nice care. The video is very nice, but with the poor care put into the video I just can't see rating this one as high as being average.

Music: The music dominates the audio, and at times is the only audio in the scenes. That said, it also shows some very nice care by being extremely well matched to the time the scene's to be taking place in.

Menus: The main menu is okay and blends a couple stills with a bit of the movie for an okay first impression. The chapter menu has a very generic look letting you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene, but rises up a little by letting you know who the girl is in each scene.

The Feature

At the end of time, when mankind is dieing off, Neveah is one of the few who's left. She lets her mind wander back to earlier times, wondering if things were really any simpler then. Of course, with so few people around it's also a lonelier time and her mind often goes to sex as well.

Scene 1 – Vanessa Lane and Jay Lassiter

As a paper flashes by warning of Jack the Ripper, a well dressed Vanessa is met by Jay in a dark coat and top hat. They kiss as he checks her out before she drops to her knees and starts sucking his cock in the middle of the sidewalk. They strip down a bit before she rides him cowgirl style. This is a pretty hot scene with some very nice style. I really like the costumes, and the scene working from black and white with the setup and foreplay to full color for the fucking worked very well for me. The Jack the Ripper opening also worked well for me by adding a little tension to the scene, and it fit nicely with the touch of intensity Vanessa often brings to her scenes. The camera work is a bit on the soft side and feels like it's shot more for softcore than hardcore, but the scene still has a nicely sexy feeling and ended up working pretty well for me.

Scene 2 – Aurora Snow and Reno

Neveah's thoughts turn to summer love next, as Aurora and Reno enjoy a day in the garden. Reno kisses his way up her arm before helping her strip down as he worships her body. This is an okay scene. It's definitely on the artistic side with sepia toned video and the only music being a playful classical style reminiscent of silent films. Aurora looks to be having a nice time, but without hearing her the scene had a flat feeling that just didn't work for me. This scene is easy on the eyes, but lacks any kind of depth.

Scene 3 – Devon Lee and Marcus London

Things turn to the speakeasies of the 1930s next as Marcus and buxom blonde Devon arrive for a night out. They enjoy a drink and kiss passionately as Marcus plays with her a bit before Marcus works one of her tits out to play with. This is a pretty good scene. Devon looks as good as I think I've ever seen her and I love the style of the speakeasy and the music. This is a pretty good scene, but although the artistic side showed some care it also held the scene back a little.

Scene 4 – Riley Shy and Johnny Castle

An old letter takes things to the forties as GI Johnny waits for the bus listening to the radio, remembering his sweetheart Riley, and looking at his pocketwatch. He remembers how she looked as she laid back and ate her pussy only to have her pull up in a pickup moments later, hop out, and throw herself into his arms for a kiss. This is an okay scene that aims a little heavier towards the “couples” feel. Riley looks great and she has nice chemistry with Johnny. There's also a nice setup for their action, a nice location with a romantic feel, and plenty of time for the foreplay. At the same time, the scene often seems to drag on and left me feeling that over five minutes could have been cut out of this nearly twenty two minute scene and it would have only made the scene stronger. This is a decent couples scene, but even with the softer focus it felt like it could have been tightened up.

Scene 5 – Roxy DeVille and Sascha

Raven tressed Roxy poses for some sixties style snapshots in the “snow” a couple guys toss over her as photographer Sascha snaps his pictures before she tries a couple other outfits. When he moves in to adjust one of her outfits she decides to adjust his as well, and their hands start to roam around each other as they kiss and strip down. Sascha works Roxy over orally as she lies back on a little bed before lying back on the bed himself so he can play with her pussy as she sucks his cock. This is a pretty good scene. I love the fun and playful feeling of the scene, and Roxy in a jungle girl costume is reason enough to check out the scene. She has some very nice chemistry with Sascha, but sadly the audio being piped in or being so badly out of synch with the rest of the audio really held it back for me. This is another pretty good scene, but once again it had the potential to be even better.

Scene 6 – Kelle Marie and Nevaeh

Neveah waits for her lover Kelle, who arrives soon after on a motorcycle, to come and make her feel alive. They kiss passionately and suck each other's tits before Kelle stands up and pulls Neveah's head in to eat her pussy. She lays back for Neveah to eat her as well before having Neveah get up on her knees so she can eat her holes from behind. Neveah also lies back so Kelle can much her before they grind their gashes together. They get in a little finger banging and some toy action that looks like it uses a dead animal before they finish things up with a kiss.

This scene did nothing for me. Neither of the girls really drew me in, and the postapocalyptic thing did nothing for me either. The scene is overly dark with camera work that never gave me an angle that did much for me, while the entire scene seemed more concerned with the artistic aspect than the sex. Add in a poorly chosen sex toy and you have a scene that brings the entire movie down a notch while leaving it with a poor final impression.

Timeless is an okay movie. Kelly Holland shows off some very nice style throughout the movie, and also puts a lot of care into the little details. I love how she matches the music to the different times, the effort put into costumes, and how the video is played with a little to try to create more of a feeling of each period. Sadly, there seems to be so much attention put into those little details that the sex is often forgotten about. Almost every scene had a few poorly chosen camera angles, or maybe they were just there to make it more easily converted into a softcore release to get some cable money. Whatever the reason I know that it held back the action here. The audio rarely matching the video also held back the movie horribly, even though it was only there for about half of the sex. Timeless has some great stylistic touches but not quite enough effort put into the sexual side of things.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Fetish Diaries, Hot Pink, Klub Slutz, Bad 2 The Bone, Underground, and In Deep. The photo gallery lasts nearly three minutes with about five seconds per nice looking full screen photo or snapshot. There's also a behind the scenes featurette, a bonus scene, and a two minute photo gallery for Riley Shy.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about twenty minutes. Riley starts things out posing and chatting a little before Johnny gets in the picture so they can work out the scene and get at it. Riley also dances around in preparation for her bonus scene before Aurora poses and talks about loving to dress up. Vanessa talks about her body rejecting foods, poses for stills, and talks a bit about herself. Devon is next, who talks about her melons and sex amidst shooting her scene and hanging out. Roxy poses while having a few laughs with the interview questions and talks about how removing the nipple rings appears to have made her boobs bigger before posing and getting it on with Sascha. Kelle Marie talks about liking wine and cigarettes before she and Neveah compare when they last had sex and check out the end of the world. This is an okay behind the scenes featurette. There's some nice shots around the set, but the guy behind the camera just comes off as a bit of a dolt who doesn't really bring much out of the girls.

Bonus Scene – Riley Shy

Auburn haired beauty Riley starts out in a little sexy pink and black lingerie dancing around by the bus station sign. She slowly strips down and teases the camera while touching herself lightly. Finally she blows a kiss to the camera.

This is an okay bonus scene that's fairly forgettable. Riley is as cute as ever, but the scene feels overly drawn out and is held back by trying to get a little too artistic and flashy rather than letting Riley work her magic teasing the camera. This scene never held my interest.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Penthouse DVDs can be found online for between about $17 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $20. If you want softer and more artistic action, this one will probably be well worth your money. The sex is pretty good, but is often held back by some of the production values. The technical aspects are okay due to very little non-dubbed audio and many scenes were you don't get to hear the performers, but the extras show some nice effort. This is an above average DVD.

Note to Penthouse: A little more attention to your audio could have gone a long way. There aren't a lot of people who can make sex with music only work well, and fewer it seems who can appreciate it even when done well. That said, nobody likes it when the audio and video don't even come close to matching.
