Initial Expectations: Smash normally impresses me, and I wouldn't expect anything different here.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is normally clear and well balanced, but there are a few minor background noises throughout the series with the outdoor sections always coming off the worst. Three of the four movies are presented in the full frame format, with the final movie being presented in anamorphic widescreen. Much of the action is a little on the dark side, and there's also a touch of grain that shows up. Beyond that, the camera work is normally smooth and there's little else to interfere with the action.

Music: There's a little typical porno music in the background at the start and close of a few scenes in from Teen Idol 4, but most of the movies are free of music.

Menus: As usual, Smash’s menus show some very nice care. The main menu has some very good animation that showcases the girls while the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the girl in each scene. After you choose a girl, you’re given a secondary menu that lets you choose where to go in the scene sexually.

The Feature

Smash's Teen 4 Disc Set collects Teen Idol, Teen Idol 2, Teen Idol 3, and Teen Idol 4. As I have already reviewed those titles previously, I will not cover the little details here and leave that for the reviews (which have now been updated with screenshots).

This is a great collection of Smash's Teen Idol series. I'm not a big barely legal guy, but Smash has always had me looking forward to this series due to some great attention paid to the tease and some nice fun towards the setups. The sex has also been nicely done with a very nice variety and a great eye behind the camera whether Mike Metropolis or Rick Davis were directing. The mood varies a little through the series, with Davis pushing the barely legal aspect much harder than Metropolis did, but there's always a fun feeling to the scenes and the girls always look like they're having fun. If there's a complaint about this set, it's only a minor one in the presentation. The new box does looks great, and very nicely lets you see each of the girls in the movie, but when you open up the box there's no cover in the DVD case. This cheapens the look of the set a little, but knowing that some retail places just toss the box I can understand with this box why Smash would make an effort to see that it's kept around. Smash is putting this set out at a great price, basically letting consumers pick up all four installments of the Teen Idol series for the price of a single DVD, so if you're at all interested in the Teen Idol series make sure you pick this one up.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, Smash's 4 DVD sets can be found for between about $20 and $30, which is about the same price to five bucks more than what you'd pay for their single disc releases. Needless to say, with the quality of this series that's a steal! The sex is normally fun and has a nice variety. The technical aspects are pretty good, and there's always some nice effort put into the extras. This is a nice set, and well worth the money.
