The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Penthouse's movies have been a bit hit or miss for me. I'm not quite sure what to expect here.

Initial Reaction: There's some very nice variety to the fetish side of this one that helps it rise above the limited positions.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting a variety of fetish action that's a bit on the light side

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting couples action that won't make anybody a little nervous

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are nicely done. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I didn't notice any background noises interfering with the action. The video is nicely presented in anamorphic widescreen, and has a touch of softness to it that helps the movie feel a little more artistic. The camera work is smooth and there's some nice variations to the lighting that helps the movie out as well.

Music: The music is very nicely done and has some nice variety. It can sometimes be a little loud, but it also helps to drive much of the movie.

Menus: The main menu works together a little simple animation with a few stills for a pretty good first impression. The chapter menu shows a bit of care, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name(s) of the girl(s) in each scene.

The Feature

Sexy dreams. Everybody has them, but not everybody writes in to Penthouse Variations about them. Thankfully a few people did, as their twisted sex dreams come together to make up this release.

Scene 1 – Roxy DeVille and Van Damage

This is a good scene, but a little more variety or a little trimming of the length could have helped it out.

Yes, there's only two positions once again, but with the foreplay and temptations to start the scene it doesn't hold the scene back like in the previous scene. This is far from your normal porn scene, and I think that's a big reason I liked it as much as I did.

Scene 4 – Celeste Star and Missy Monroe

Scene 5 – Brooke Haven and Jerry

Strange Dreams is a very nice fetish release. The stories that start the scenes out are nicely done with simple voiceovers, and the scenes never waste much time drawing them out and instead get right to the tease. There's also a nice variety to the sex with Skye Blue looking like she isn't afraid to push the couples action a bit with some more twisted fetishes. This really impressed me, as so many “couples movies” seem to go at it with the attitude that you can't take a chance offending anybody and have to tone things down as much as possible. Roxy DeVille's scene with Van Damage was easily my favorite here, but I also really liked Harmony's scene. Meanwhile, Missy Monroe's romp with Celeste Star fell a bit short while Shyla Stylez' scene felt a bit short and limited. Throughout the movie the biggest problem was the need for another position or two, as it feels a little too bogged down in missionary and doggie fucking.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Naughty Girls, Timeless, Hot Pink, My Best Friend's Mom, Klub Slutz, and Drive. The photo gallery lasts a little over two minutes with about five seconds per good looking full screen photo or snapshot. There's also a behind the scene featurette and a bonus scene with a corresponding photo gallery.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts almost twenty minutes. Cassie starts things out playing around with a gun keychain before having a few more laughs around the makeup chair. She talks about her breasts a little before providing some nice eye candy posing for her stills. Roxy is next, who chats about her familiarity with Van's penis before raving about her scene afterwards. There's a little fun with Celeste and her talking about her upcoming scene before giving a little more eye candy. If you enjoyed the movie, there's plenty to like in the behind the scenes featurette as well.

Bonus Scene – Cassie Young and Marco Banderas

The bonus scene looks like it very well might have been a deleted scene from the movie. The Bottom Line:

Currently, many Penthouse DVDs can be found online for between about $17 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $20. I'd aim a little low here. The sex is pretty good and has a nice variety of fetishes, but it's also a little short. The technical aspects show some very nice care, and there's also some nice care put into the extras. This is a DVD that shows some very nice effort, but a little longer movie would have really helped it out.
