The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very clear and well balanced throughout the feature. The video is also very good, but there are a few minor shadows problems in a few places.

Music: The music is the standard higher class porno style and is very well balanced with the rest of the audio.

Menus: The main menu has some nice animation that gives the DVD a nice and fun feel. The chapter menu lists each scene by a small clip of the scene and a title for the scene. It’s a standard way of showing the chapters, and looks great here, but I really wish Wicked would list at least the female performer in each scene.

The Feature

Devinn Lane runs a small bookstore that’s having problems making ends meet. Herschel Savage is constantly harassing her for the rent, or at least trying to make “other arrangements” for payment. At Temptress’s urging she buys some used books off an old man, only to find out they’re magical books. After a little studying, Devinn, Temptress, and Alexa become witches, and use the magic to try and make things happen for themselves.

Scene 1 - Alexa Rae and Devin Wolf

Alexa starts things off with Devin after coming home from a wild night. Alexa looks extremely slutty here, and it gives the feel a fun start since she plays it very well. They make their way back to Alexa’s bedroom, where Devin strips off her bright red pants, throws himself down between her legs, and then attacks her tits and pussy. It’s always nice to watch people looking like they’re having fun fucking, and this is a great example of just that.

Scene 2 - Temptress and Chris Cannon

Temptress casts a spell on Chris Cannon to get him to serenade her on the sax, and then makes a different kind of music with him in the aisle of the bookstore. They nicely kiss each other all over as while undressing each other, before Temptress gives Chris a nice slow blowjob. Unlike most of Temptress’s scenes, her tongue stud is missing here, but that doesn’t slow her down at all working on Chris’s cock. It’s a good scene with great chemistry, but it’s similarity to the first scene brought it down a little for me. There’s still great chemistry with an energetic performance, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s only been two positions for fucking in the first two scenes of the movie.

Scene 3 - Devinn Lane, Alexa Rae, and Temptress

Devinn, Alexa, and Temptress get more than a little excited after discovering the power in the magical book. This is a fairly short scene, but very well balanced. The focus is nicely split between the three girls without any of them being left out. The girls also play very well off each other, seeming to focus on the group sex dynamic rather than on themselves. It makes for a very hot scene that nicely showcases the Wicked girls.

Scene 4 - Temptress and Randy Spears

Temptress heads over to Randy’s apartment with the spell book for her lunch break. They starts off with quite a bit of kissing before Randy roughly kisses Temptress’ nicely natural nipples as she straddles him. Scene 5 - Devinn Lane and Jessica Drake

It’s a great ending to an equally great scene. Jessica and Devinn have great chemistry together and play off each other very well. They also put quite a bit of effort into the scene, which makes it both fun and hot.

Scene 6 - Alexa Rae and Herschel Savage

Finally, Alexa pays Herschel for the apartment rent in the old fashioned way after using a spell to make him better than a slob landlord. Herschel kisses Alexa all over before Alexa puts her great oral skills to work, complete with giving Herschel some great eye contact. This is a slightly above average scene, but the beginning really feels off. When Herschel and Alexa start kissing and warming each other up I had the feeling that both of them would rather be in the dentist’s chair than on the couch with each other. Thankfully it warms up after a bit, but it’s still a horrible start to a scene.

Spellbound reminds me why I think Wicked is one of the best companies out there. The movie is fun and well acted, and is helped out even more by some decent special effects that raise it up another notch. Most of the sex is also very good, having both good chemistry and good heat. The cast seems like they’re having a good time with the entire thing, with Devinn Lane showing how she could land a major contract so soon into her adult film career and Alexa still showing an incredible amount of promise and potential. It’s one of the few adult films that had me smiling at both sex and non-sex scenes. Virtually everything fits together nicely here, which makes Spellbound an extremely enjoyable feature that most couples should be able to have a lot of fun watching together.

The Extra Stuff

Wicked has all their standard extras present here, as well as a few extras. Trailers are included for Dream Quest, Hell on Heels, Pornogothic, and Sex Safari. Audio bios are included for Alexa, Temptress, Devinn Lane, Jessica Drake, Herschel Savage, Randy Spears, and Devin Wolf. It’s Wicked’s old standard style of audio bios, which gives some nice personal information, a few stills, a list of the star’s other Wicked features, and a link to their scene. There’s also the Wicked Web, company profile, Wicked casino, and list of AVN award winning and nominated titles.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about thirty three minutes. As usual with Wicked’s behind the scenes featurettes, all of the cast is nicely identified as they take the screen, so you know who’s who pretty much from the start. There are nice interviews with most of the stars, as well as showing many of them screwing around a bit behind the scenes. There’s even fun things such as Temptress teaching Devinn Lane how to do common, juvenile things with her tongue stud. There’s even a little extra sex, such as a hot wax segment from the scene between Devinn, Alexa, and Temptress that was cut from the movie. You also get to see quite a bit of director Brad Armstrong dealing with the cast and crew. It’s a pretty typical, well done Wicked behind the scenes featurette.

Brad Armstrong handles the audio commentary by himself this time around. Although there’s quite a bit of dead air, he does handle it very well. He talks quite a bit about the cast, the intricacies of shooting the scenes, and some of the sex, as well as a bit about the sex. There are quite a few things he talks about that wouldn’t seem like big deals, but surprisingly were. It’s a nice commentary overall, and does add a bit to the overall package.

Two photo galleries are included. The main photo gallery lasts about two minutes, while the behind the scenes gallery is about ten seconds shorter. Both photo galleries look very nice and give you about six seconds to look at each framed photo.

The Boxcover Shoot lasts about seven minutes, and unlike many of the other boxcover shoots, focuses nicely on the actual boxcover shoot. There’s some nice footage of the girls during the actual photo shoot as well as some nice interviews with the girls in between shoots. It’s a very nice featurette, and fits in very well with the style of some of the All Access featurettes.

Meet the Wicked Girls gives you an interview by the great Ezra, a photo gallery, and a bonus shoot for Alexa, Temptress, and Devinn Lane, the three Wicked contract girls featured in the movie. Temptress’ interview lasts about five and three quarter minutes, and she talks about being a contract girl, the movie, Brad Armstrong as a director and writer, sex, and new experiences. Her photo gallery lasts two minutes and is made up entirely of photos of her scene with Mark Davis in Working Girl.

Bonus Scene 1 - Temptress and Devinn Wolf

Temptress’ bonus scene also comes from Working Girl, and pairs her with Devin Wolf. She starts out with his cock in her mouth while giving it some nice hand work. Her photo gallery lasts about a minute and three quarters and comes entirely from her scene with Wendy (Maya) Divine in In Style.

Bonus Scene 2 - Devinn Lane and Chandler

Devinn’s bonus scene comes from Silent Echoes with Chandler. Devinn starts out working on Chandler’s tits, and gets them to pop out as far as Ed Power’s dick before going to work on her down below. Currently, Spellbound can be found online for between $20.50 and $28 with a decent spread between retailers. The movie’s a lot of fun and has some very well done sex. The transfer is also very good and has very few problems, and there are a ton of extras to turn this into a great DVD.

Note to Wicked: Excellent job on the extras here. The “Meet the Wicked Girls is a great addition to the extras and one that I’d like to see more of in future releases. Also, it would have been great for all the girls to join Brad during the commentary.
