The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects show a lot of care, just as one would expect from Digital Playground. The audio is clear and very nicely balanced, and I didn't notice any background noises. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and is a touch hit or miss. There's a fair amount of intentionally dark and tinted footage, and although it shows some good care and really helps the overall feel of the movie there are times it interferes with the action by making it just a touch too dark.

Music: There's a bit of music to start out each scene. It's normally nicely balanced with a good style, and always fades out when the action really gets going.

Menus: The main menu nicely blends a bit of animation, a few clips from the movie, and a bit of the cover still for a good first impression. The chapter menu is pretty basic, and lets you choose a scene based on a clip of the scene, a chapter number (which doesn't correspond to the chapters in the movie), and the name of the girls involved in each scene for the first chapter in the scene.

The Feature

Do you like scary movies? How about if there's a lot of sex in them? Digital Playground takes a few notes from horror movies lets them lead into the sex scenes with contract girl Sophia Santi leading the way this time around.

As brunette hottie Sophia checks herself out in the mirror, she sees visions of herself being choked. Next she knows she's being choked by hot brunettes Jelena and Shay as they demand that Sophia plays with them. This is an okay opening scene. Not surprisingly the girls look great, and there's a pretty good drive to the scene as well as a bit of chemistry. I'll readily admit that I was disappointed with how one-sided the scene was, but I did like the darker feeling of the scene and for how short it was it did work pretty well. This is a decent scene that does a nice job of setting the mood for the movie.

Marco starts out the second scene putting on a mask and letting hot brunette Bobbi know that he can smell her as he hunts her down in her little kitty outfit. She gets noticeably distraught as he grabs her from behind, kisses her, and strokes her hair. Marco can't help but stroke her kitty tail buttplug before having Bobbi take his cock down her throat repeatedly. This is an okay at best scene. Once again the scene is very dark, and although it does add to the mood in the scene it also holds the sexuality of it back a bit. Bobbi plays the submissive role very well and takes it up the ass as well as ever, but I just couldn't get into this scene too much. This scene has some nice things going for it with Bobbi taking it up the ass, but the mood and lighting really held it back for me.

Dirty blonde “freshman” Samantha quickly agrees to play a game with Sophia and says “Bloody Mary Got Your Baby” in front of a mirror three times before Sophia grabs her from behind, ball gags her, and has her bent over to spank her ass. This is a great scene. Both girls look fantastic and there's great chemistry between them from start to finish. I love the styles and the bondage the, but best of all is that the darker theme of the scene is toned down quite a bit with a sense of playful fun. This is a smoking hot scene and one of my favorites in the movie.

Brunette Mindy starts her scene topless wearing a blindfold as Scott sits down behind her and starts to eat his dinner out of a styrofoam box. He tries to give her a bite of his burger which she spits out and gropes her a little before moving around to eat her pussy, suck her tits, and kiss her. This is another very hot scene. The opening was more than a little dark, but Mindy gets into it so well and the chemistry builds so fast that it was impossible for me to get down on this scene. There's some nice energy and plenty of great vocals, but the camera seemed to prefer close-ups a little more than I did. There's a few things that tried to hold this scene back for me, but the chemistry was just too strong.

Sophia, in a white dress, brings hot blonde Jana, in a red dress, a stiff drink when Jana isn't feeling quite right. Sophia quickly changes into red fishnets, a rubber apron, and white rubber gloves and starts to strip Jana down while talking down to her about her “perfect” life. She shrink wraps Jana while whistling away and then starts to lick her way around Jana's back with a little finger sucking mixed in. Jana resists at first when she comes to, but her “don't” quickly turns into a “don't stop” with Sophia soon after rolling her over to suck her tits. This is another hot scene. The opening once again tempers the darkness with a bit of humor, and although I'm not sure it was meant to be that way I couldn't help but get a little Desperate Housewives vibe out of it. There's great chemistry between the girls, and the camera work is nicely done with the action moving along at a very nice pace. This is another scene that worked very well for me.

As Scott sleeps a restless sleep he's plagued by visions of hot black chick Alexis and Latino Rayne who take him to purgatory where he's to spend an eternity with them. They kiss their way around his chest before pulling out his cock to suck while also sharing a few kisses. This scene just didn't do a lot for me. The artistic style is kind of cool with plenty of deep blues, but it also interfered with the sex for me and the camera work went for extreme close-ups much more than I care for. Scott and the girls look to get into the action pretty good, but I just couldn't get into it. This scene didn't quite make it to the average mark for me.

Sophia Santi Scream is a pretty hit or miss release. There's plenty of effort put into the artistic style of the scenes, and although it often helps the scenes there are also times when it really held the scenes back for me. Bobbi Starr's scene with Marco Banderas and the threesome between Alexis Love, Rayne Rodriguez, and Scott Nails both were held back severely by the artistic style, while Sophia's scenes with Samanthan Ryan and Jana Cova and Mindy Main's scene with Scott Nails both played very well with the style. Even when the style didn't work it was nice to see so much effort put into the little details, and there's a big sense of Celeste and Robby D. enjoying horror movies with how well so much of the movie clicks together. For that reason those who love horror movies (which I'm not a big fan of) and porn might enjoy Sophia Santi Scream more than I did, but even with my reservations it makes it just past the average mark.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery can be viewed either manually or as a slide show lasting a little over four minutes with about six seconds per very nice looking snapshot or full screen photo. Trailers are included for Pirates 2, Island Fever 4, Jack’s Teen America: Mission 18, Jack's My First Porn 7, Jack’s Playground 32, Teagan's Juice, Pirates, and the Virtual Sex With... series. There's also a bio for Sophia Santi, contact information, a behind the scenes featurette, and cumshot recaps.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts almost ten minutes. Sophia starts things out trying to fight Robby off from grabbing her boobs with Shay Jordan enjoying the show from behind the camera. Shay moves on to chat with Bobbi about her upcoming scene as well as watching them get ready for the scene. There's also a little fun with Robby, Sophia, and Jelena and Robby working with Marco and Bobbi along with Robby being tagged as the director instead of Celeste. There's a little eye candy with Shay Laren and Jelena Jensen before moving on with Mindy Main, who gives a bit more eye candy as well as sharing a few words. Finally, there's a bit of Sophia and Jana's scene being shot. This is a nice little behind the scenes featurette that gives you a little of everything. You get to see Robby D. working with the cast, you get a little personality from some of the girls, and you get a bit of eye candy. There's nothing too special here, but it does add a bit to the overall DVD.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Digital Playground’s bigger releases can be found online for between about $18 and $28 with a few stores offering them for under $20. Aim low or rent this one first. There's some good sex here, but it's also hit or miss due to the artistic style. The technical aspects show some nice care and there's also a bit of care put into the extras with a decent behind the scenes featurette. This is an above average release.

Note to Digital Playground: Although this one didn't work as well as some of your others for me, it's great to see you mixing things up a little stylistically.
