So You Want To Be A Star? 2 Review

NOTE: This is an amateur video. Amateur and homemade movies don’t have the budget nor the resources of studio porn, and therefore rarely get close to the same quality technically. I’m rating this DVD on the same scale, but most homemade or amateur features would rarely make it above a 3 on the standard scale I use for studio porn for their technical aspects. The performers also aren’t normally the ‘glamour stars’ one expects from studio porn, and instead use people who look like somebody you might encounter in your day to day life. Finally, the camera work has a different feel, as it’s often shot from a tripod or with somebody who doesn’t have the technical training or experience of professional cameramen. That said, amateur and homemade features have a great charm to them, simple because the people in them are doing what they’re doing to have fun and because they enjoy it. All the things that separate them from studio porn contribute to that charm, I hope people will keep that in mind when checking out this review and not just look at the ratings as the ultimate word on this release.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio is pretty well balanced between the performers, but there are a few background noises and a little talk back and forth with the cameraman. The video is also okay. There’s a bit of grain throughout the movie and there’s a few soft focus and motion problems here and there throughout the movie. In the end, it’s pretty average for an amateur movie.

Music: There’s a little music in a few of the scenes, but it normally sounds like it’s provided by a stereo playing in the room.

Watermark Warning: There’s a watermark in the lower right corner of the screen. It says put so that it’s easy to put out of your mind, but I mention it because I know that some people absolutely hate them. The good news is that the good people over at Pixie’s Emporium are great about listening to their customers, and I think they’ve started to remove the watermarks from their movies. If you’re interested in this one and the watermark is a deciding factor, make sure to drop them an e-mail and I’m sure that they’ll let you know the status of it.

Menus: The main menu is okay. It blends the boxcover with some nice music for a decent first impression. The chapter menu also shows some nice care, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the girl in the scene.

The Feature

The Wanna Be a Star? collects a few unrelated sex scenes. They’re all amateur scenes, and it’s not uncommon to have the performers talk with the cameraman as they work their magic on the screen.

Scene 1 - Steph and an uncredited guy

Steph, an eighteen year old blonde with braces and a pierced navel, starts things out fucking herself with a dildo. Wanna Be A Star? Vol. 2 is an okay amateur porno. The couples normally appear to be nicely into each other and put out some good energy with Shana and Jeff taking home the prize for the best scene. There’s some decent banter back and forth with the cameraman, who tries to keep them natural and having fun, and it actually added to my enjoyment of the movie most of the time rather than detracting from the movie. That isn’t to say that it never detracted, as there were a couple spots where it seemed like another editing cut would have helped things out. My bigger problem with the movie was some of the camera work. When there’s somebody behind the camera rather than leaving it on a tripod, I have a problem when heads are cut off and when there’s a fair amount of soft focus blurs. Here, that happened fairly often and there were many times when the cameraman seemed like he could have given a much better view of the action if he would have moved a couple steps one way or another. Instead he stayed wooden and focused almost entirely on the penetration rather than trying to show the performers enjoying themselves. It held Wanna Be a Star? Vol. 2 back a bit for me, and left the overall movie hovering around the average mark.

Currently, many of the DVDs from Pixie’s Emporium can be found online for around $13. This isn’t too bad a price for what you get here. There’s a nice variety of sex and the technical aspects are pretty average. Unfortunately, there’s absolutely no effort put into the extras.

Note to Pixie’s Emporium: It’s nice to see a bit of variety like you have going here. I know that this is still early in the series, and I hope a few of the kinks get worked out by the end.
