Audio Quality: Very good, with the exception of a couple scenes being dubbed. Juli Ashton's first scene is dubbed really bad.
Video Quality: Very good except for a couple spots. In the final cumshot, the picture loses a lot of it's color and gets almost a bluish tinge.
Music: There isn't music in every scene. When there is music, it's well balanced and fits the mood of the scene.
Initial Expectations: Let's see. Jenna, Kylie, and Nici. Three of my favorite female performers. All in one movie on a VCA DVD. This should be good, but I'm not expecting there to be a plot at all, similar to 'Shameless Desires'.
Initial Reaction: Very Good! Great sex and a plot!
Disc Problems: The cover incorrectly states that Jenna and Marc Davis get it on in the last scene. They never appear together in the same scene in the entire movie.
Review: I expected 'Smells Like... Sex' to be very similar to 'Shameless Desires', but it had one thing that 'Shameless Desires' didn't, well other than plot, Smell - O Vision. That's right, boys and girls, Smell - O - Vision. I don't remember seeing any trademark signs around it, so this may be the next thing taking over the adult film world. I hope it doesn't take up a lot of space on a DVD, since I'm sure a certain studio that we won't name here would be willing to sacrifice most of the movie for something like Smell - O - Vision. Come on. Let's all say it together. One. Two. Three . SMELL - O - VISION! There now. Wasn't that fun? I hope so, since that's about all it's good for. As near as I can figure, Smell - O - Vision is where at a certain point in a sex scene, a number will flash on your screen, similar to a multi - angle icon, and you scramble madly for your DVD remote to figure out which button to push to go somewhere else, kind of like 'The Matrix's white rabbit feature. The only difference is here nothing happens. Oh, well. It was still good for a chuckle or two.
'Smells Like... Sex' is about Jon Dough and his disability. His sense of smell is hyper - sensitive. He can't find the right woman because he can't stand being around her if she doesn't smell just right. He stops at a gas station to ask directions at the start of the movie (you can tell it's a movie since no real man would EVER stop to ask directions), and is more turned on by the smells in the gas station than watching Marc Davis pound away on Shayla LaVeaux. When he finally gets to Jenna's house, he can even smell that she was using his brand of shaving cream to shave herself. Jenna shaved herself as a birthday present for her boyfriend Vince Voyeur. She even arranges for Kylie and Felicia to sneak into the house and join in as his birthday present. Luckily, Jenna convinces Jon to go see a doctor (Juli Ashton) she knows. Doctor Juli learns that Jon's sense of smell is so sensitive that he can identify a 1% seawater sample as Atlantic Ocean seawater when he hasn't been to the Atlantic Ocean in twenty years. It turns out that Juli also has a hypersensitivity. She's hypersensitive to touch, especially leather, which we see with the help of Tony Tedeschi and T. T. Boy. When Jon leaves, he goes back to the gas station where he watches Marc Davis again, this time with Lana Sands. I haven't watched Lana before, but I'm ready to crown her 'Queen of Stubble' and that's about all that's memorable about her. When he leaves, Jon decides to go to a spot where he normally felt inspired as he could smell so many different things. This time, he seemed inspired by Nici Sterling and Wilde Oscar. I'm not sure if he could smell Nici or not (I don't mean to imply anything about Nici here as I have heard she is an extreme professional), but from how worked up both of them were, I would think so. Later, Jon stops back at the clinic where Dr. Juli informs him that she has figured out his problem. His penis and nose are connected, similar to a case she had where a man's (Tom Byron) penis and tongue were connected. She even allows him to experience what things are like for Tom through virtual reality while she notices Jon's leather shoes. Juli also tells Jon that if he can find a woman who satisfies both his penis and nose, he'll find complete contentment. Meanwhile, Jenna is dumping her boyfriend who ran up her phone and credit card bills. At least she has her handy, dandy, silver vibe to keep her happy. Jon shows up just in time for the show also, realizing that Jenna is his dream woman.
The sex in 'Smells Like... Sex' is very well done. There's a little something for everybody without any one thing overpowering it. The only thing that could be overpowering is Jenna, who appears in about half the scenes in the movie. Luckily, each scene is different which gives her a chance to show many of the things she does best! The main difference I found here compared to Jenna's current films is that here she doesn't do a dedicated girl / girl scene. The closest 'Smells Like... Sex' comes to a girl / girl scene is the group sex scene with Jenna, Kylie, Felicia, and Vince Voyeur. It's an okay group sex scene, but it focuses a little too much on close - ups and doesn't do many distance shots to let you see what's going on. The highlight of the scene is the cumshot. Jenna takes it all in her mouth and then spits it into Kylie's mouth followed by a lot of kissing.
My main complaint about 'Smells Like... Sex' is a personal complaint. I didn't care for the style of the camera work. Most of the shots are close-ups or rear shots. You barely get to see the faces on most of the people. In Juli Ashton's threesome, you had two or three quick shots of Tony's face and you missed T. T. Boy if you even thought about blinking. I wouldn't have even known it was him in the scene if I wouldn't have seen him in the background before the sex started. I don't even remember a shot showing all three of them going at it from a distance. I admit, this was a little extreme in this scene , but it's prevalent throughout the movie.
Raincoat Factor: Very high
Overall: If you're a fan of Jenna, you can't pass 'Smells Like... Sex' up. Although the movie doesn't revolve around her, she's in almost half the scenes. Almost all of the sex is excellent, and the story is okay also. The audio and video quality are very good, as usual from VCA, but there are a couple small spots that suffer. The extras also seem to lack slightly from what I'm used to from VCA.
