Initial Expectations: Ashlyn was one of the first porn girls to catch my eye. I always look forward to seeing her.

Initial Reaction: The sex is very hot, but the overall movie is a bit flawed.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio leaves a bit to be desired. It’s often off balance with some of the dialogue dropping low enough to make it difficult to hear. The video is pretty average for early nineties porn. There’s a little grain, quite a few soft focus problems, and the lighting often leaves a bit to be desired.

Music: The music is fairly well balanced with the rest of the audio and is a bit on the eerie or sad side, which gives much of the feature an odd feeling and brought down all of the scenes.

Menus: The main menu is very simple and doesn’t even have any animation. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene.

The Feature: Ashlyn Gere is used to getting what she wants. Nobody quits her “health club”, which has made her a lot of money, as well as a very powerful woman. She doesn’t realize, however, that nothing lasts forever.

Ashlyn Gere starts things off masturbating in front of an artistic mirror. The movie starts with her in the middle of doing the deed with herself using a vibrator and dressed in some nice black lingerie complete with stockings and pumps. Ashlyn puts some great energy into working herself over, and sucks and tit-fucks her vibe as well as thrusting it into her snatch. It’s definitely a great way to start off a movie, and the mirror adds a slightly artistic feel to the scene rather than just being a straight ahead masturbation scene.

Ashlyn meets K. C. Williams, a cute bleached blonde with a great natural body, at the refrigerator next. She mentions how interesting it is they have the same craving at the same time, and invites K. C. to play a little game with the contents of the fridge. The girls play with a little chocolate syrup and a banana before Ashlyn gets out the honey for some sticky and sweet fun. Surprisingly, it’s a one-sided scene with K. C. only receiving and never giving. I can’t help but be a little disappointed by the one-sided nature of the scene, but it’s done well enough and has enough chemistry that my disappointment was short lived.

Buster Cheri takes on bleached blonde Rayne as Ashlyn watches and diddles herself in order to get a job at her “health club”. He starts out eating Rayne’s snatch, and gives it quite a bit of attention before he whips out “Willie the one eyed spitting snake” for Rayne to return the favor on. Although the scene has a nice start, it goes downhill from here since Buster doesn’t appear to be able to get it up. He flops around his limp noodle while fingering Rayne from behind before finally getting it up enough to get it inside her for a couple of the standard positions. I was actually surprised he could manage a pop on Rayne’s tits and face rather than needing a stunt dick for the scene. Not surprisingly, Rayne and Ashlyn overdo things a little bit, which I normally don’t care for, but here I think it saved the scene from being a complete disaster.

Mike Horner gets busy with Sharon Kane on Ashlyn’s bed after Ashlyn gives him a quick blowjob to remind him what he left. Mike quickly dives between Sharon’s legs, not realizing that once again Ashlyn is watching and taking matters into her own hands. Sharon gives Mike a very nice blowjob as he holds himself over her and plays with her pussy, eventually turning it into a 69. Mike moves on to fuck Sharon doggie style before letting her take control cowgirl style. They finish things up missionary style with Sharon taking Mike’s offering on her chest. It’s an extremely hot scene with amazing chemistry. Sharon and Mike both appear to be really into each other, and turn what could have been a fairly standard scene into one of the best in the feature.

K. C. Williams entertains Steve Drake in proper porn star fashion while Ashlyn leaves to take care of an employee problem. K. C. and Steve take their time exchanging oral favors before K. C. lays back on the couch for Steve’s prick to penetrate her pussy. Steve takes K. C. first missionary style and then doggie style before giving her a nice decoration on her butt. It’s another very hot scene with some very good chemistry. As I remember, K. C. was a top performer, and she really showed why here.

Finally, Ashlyn Gere agrees to fuck Steve Drake on his terms. After she’s blindfolded and dressed in some thigh high black fuck me boots, a collar, and a wristband, Steve brings in Mike Horner, who takes care of Ashlyn from behind while she sucks Steve in front of her. The guys fuck her at both ends, trading off, and finally decorating her stomach, face, and face. It’s another hot scene with some nice chemistry, very good energy and enthusiasm, and a nice twist to the plot at the end.

Slow Burn is a great specimen of early nineties porn and it’s strengths and weaknesses. The plot is almost non-existent, and the music brings down almost every scene, which holds Slow Burn back from being a really great adult film. The sex, however, is great in all but one of the scenes. I didn’t care for some of the camera work, but there was an excess of chemistry in almost all of the scenes. Although not perfect, Slow Burn is definitely worth checking out.

Extras: The photo gallery looks okay when one considers the age of the feature and that the photos were probably taken directly from the feature. The cast section lets you jump directly to the some of the star’s scenes. There’s also contact information, a catalogue of some of the other VCA Classics titles, and a short Hall of Fame piece narrated by Jim Holliday.

Raincoat Factor: High

Overall: Currently, many of the VCA Classics line can be found online for between $17 and $25 with a few stores offering it near the bottom end. Although this is a little high, since the transfer isn’t the best and there’s no real extras, I’d recommend Slow Burn as a strong rental. The sex is hot enough that many will think it strong enough to buy, but others might find it a little shy for the price.

Note to VCA: It’s great to see you bringing out your older features on DVD, but it would be nice if you could lower the price on some of the more bare bones titles, such as this.
