NOTE: This is an amateur video. Amateur and homemade movies don’t have the budget nor the resources of studio porn, and therefore rarely get close to the same quality technically. I’m rating this DVD on the same scale, but most homemade or amateur features would rarely make it above a 3 on the standard scale I use for studio porn for their technical aspects. The performers also aren’t normally the ‘glamour stars’ one expects from studio porn, and instead use people who look like somebody you might encounter in your day to day life. Finally, the camera work has a different feel, as it’s often shot from a tripod or with somebody who doesn’t have the technical training or experience of professional cameramen. All the things that separate them from studio porn contribute to that charm, I hope people will keep that in mind when checking out this review and not just look at the ratings as the ultimate word on this release. Since the technical aspects are normally lacking and there normally isn’t much for extras in amateur features, I’ve weighted my overall rating more heavily towards the sex than I do in most studio porn.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good for a homemade movie. The audio is clear and for the most part nicely balanced, with very little for background noises. The video is a bit weaker, mostly because it has some noticeable grain and a bit of camera shake, and presented in the full frame format. There’s some soft focus blurs as well, but for a homemade movie it looks pretty good.

Watermark Warning: Although the normally don’t bother me much, there is a small and tasteful watermark warning that stays in the lower right corner. This made it very easy to filter out for me, and quite honestly, I didn’t notice it unless I thought about it.

Menus: The menus are pretty simple. The main menu keeps Shot at Home’s usual style with their logo and a photo from the movie. The chapter menu is also simple, and lets you choose where to go in the movie based on six clips from the movie.

The Feature

Shot at Home 9 collects scenes from four different Shot at Home releases. Each scene starts out nicely letting the viewer know who the performers are before moving on with the action.

The opening scene comes from Grace & Tom 2: Butt Fucked. Shot at Home 9 is a very nice collection of scenes from Shot at Home's many amateur lines. There's a nice mix of action here as well as looks to the performers. Although I'd already seen half of the scenes here before now they weren't anything close to seeming old, and in fact the scenes reminded me of how much I enjoyed them or other series by the performers the first time I watched them. I was also really happy to see the care put into the movie to let viewers know who each of the performers are so that if a viewer wants to see more of them they can easily know who to check out on Shot at Home's website. Shot at Home 9 is a nicely done release that shows why Shot at Home makes some of the best amateur porn out there.

Currently, many Shot at Home releases can be found online for between about $13 and $25 with several stores offering them for under $20. At the low end this one's a steal. There's a nice mix of action and the performers are nicely identified so you can check out more of them if you so choose. The technical aspects are below average compared to professional porn, but for amateur porn are pretty average, and there's a touch of effort put into the extras to help out the overall DVD. This is a nicely done release that shows some good care.
